  1. From what I understand, participating schools get $100k in tickets as part of their bowl check. If they don't sell that much in tickets, they dont get a full bowl check. So you might save a negligible amount buying elsewhere but you are directing helping UNT if you buy through them.
  2. USM was in NOLA last year for one. Doubtful they wanted to go back and doubtful NOLA wanted the same team.
  3. ArkStfan - You are exactly correct. But MeanGreenTexan doesn't want to hear logic and real reasons. He'd rather just run down his school, his conference, his coach, his AD, the players and where they might want to go, the bowl his team is in the and the bowl opponent (who opened a 5 point favorite). Literally, you're pissing in the wind coming here with logic. Welcome to the life of a UNT fan.
  4. But Indy didn't "need" CUSA. Remember a CUSA team got left out. So did two other other teams. And the primary bowl tie is with the ACC not CUSA. So the Indy bowl is going to keep ACC and their team happy. They have no reason to cater to CUSA. Basically, CUSA was desperate to get teams in. My guess is ACC and Indy got together and said okay, we'll take USM.
  5. 50% of CUSA's guranteed bowls are on December 16th. Doubtful at any point you could rule out any bowl on Dec 16th. Also, that's almost every school's graduation. Doubtful admin is trying to replace commencement. Offering an alternative is a class move. But go ahead and twist it into something else to fit your narrative.
  6. Okay, I'm gonna bite on this. If that logic is true, then why isn't FAU playing Florida State? Their AD has let it be known they wanted that much. Answer that Mr. All Knowing. The attitude of a handful of uneducated know it alls on this board is really something.
  7. Actually, we are 3.5 hours away. Only fair way to measure that would be campus to stadium as we may have DFW area fans 2.5 hours away but USM would also have alums closer. Your point still stands but...
  8. No doubt. Here's how it works, ACC and FSU tell Independence Bowl who they'd be willing to play against. FSU travels insanely well. They weren't going to play LaTech or North Texas and possibly have less fans and end the season with a losing record. It's what I've been saying. It's not North Texas' fault. It's not CUSA fault. It's not the players' fault. It is the system. For the same reason UCF goes undefeated and can't get respect or any hope of being in the playoffs. The power 5 conferences control when, where and who they will play, IF they will play a non power 5 team. Especially now when the Power 5 almost never fills all their bowl slots. They basically say, some bowl isn't getting a Power 5 team. If you try to match FSU up against FAU, we'll send Florida State to Bowl X and you won't have a power 5 team. I am in awe of of how are fans would rather blame the players, the coach, the AD, the conference, other fans, etc. The system gives ALL the decision making power to the Power 5 schools.
  9. Standard is HC gets a bonus for a bowl win not the AD. Usually AD only gets a bonus for bowl eligibility. So this isn't a true statement.
  10. Yeah...because Miami, TCU and Wisconsin are all irrelevant. I'd say TCU has done a helluva job becoming relevant. Yet they lost big to OU in the regular season and had the exact same outcome we had today. Playing in a conference championship game = relevancy. Arguing otherwise makes no damn sense.
  11. Not arguing with a mod...But if there ever was a need, it would be this dude.
  12. But Jim, it's easier for the dentist office receptionist who criticizes everything to whine incessantly. Facts: All of the automatic CUSA bowl tie ins are vs Group of 5 opponents. The Sunbelt has finished ahead of CUSA 2 of 3 years in the final CFP computer rankings. We aren't better. And NO Bowl gets their champion every year. So they are the ones that should be upset that the champion of their league (ranked higher than CUSA) has to play a non G5 champion. EVERYONE would love to see us play a Big 12 opponent. Here is the reality. The P5 schools avoid that at all cost and if they allow one, it's one they think they can win and the G5 team doesn't have an advantage (in other words not gonna put K-State vs UNT in DFW). P5 controls the matchups along with TV. So you'd be looking at a mid-tier AAC matchup at best. WHY IS THIS SO DAMN HARD TO UNDERSTAND for some on this board?/
  13. Agreed. Coaches that lose it on the sideline usually aren't successful. Seriously name one. There is no metric where this team isn't making progress. Look at the computer rankings NCAA Men's Football - North Texas Mean Green (2017-2018)Rank: 38 SOS Rank: 123 Record: 9-4 (7-2)Last year Rank: 101 SOS Rank: 125 Record: 5-8 101 North Texas 5-8 17.15 125 49.79 Cusa 3-5 But, yeah there are 3 dudes on this board that want to tear down a staff that has given us 1 of the 5 best seasons we've ever had in their 2nd year. Today sucked. Sucked hard. We have most of our offense back. We need to find some impact transfers on the O-Line and we're good. Our defense wasn't good mainly due to a lack of talent. D Line was decent, linebackers were awful and the secondary we thought was good last year was terrible. Our schematics on defense must get better, but the truth is it was more of a talent deficiency.
  14. Literally did it Baylor style. Took a bunch of players no else could take. Talented guys who most schools admins wouldn't let coaches take. But Lane was able to get them in. 6-7 of guys like JF III make a big difference.
  15. If you go back 2 more years, here are the other opponents. Utah St, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, Fresno State, Illinois Arkansas State, South Florida, Western Michigan, Washington Huskies, UConn So 2 out of 17 opponents were power 5. Those opponents? Washington and Illinois.
  16. So let me get this straight. Everyone on this board knows more about momentum and recruiting than any administrator or coach in the athletic department. Geez, why don't we save a lot of money and eliminate those guys positions and let you all run it. CUSA isn't in control of bowl opportunities and North Texas damn sure isn't. Do you guys really think a Power 5 opponent wants to come play a hot North Texas team in a location close to DFW? Seriously? You think the ACC, Big 12, Big 10, SEC commissioners are gonna be like, yeah we want that matchup. Or how about before you go scorched earth on the best department and football team leadership we've ever had you actually look at who CUSA usually draws in bowl games. Last year it was Army, Navy, New Mexico, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Eastern Michigan and Hawaii. Some of you guys are beyond ridiculous with this stuff. The longest post of the year is 2/3s of people bitching about our coach and AD wanted to give the kids a good experience after one of the 5 best seasons we've ever had. And making assumptions that said experience means turning down match-ups with Power 5 programs in our backyard. Even though there is literally ZERO evidence than any such matchup opportunities exist. And if they did, people at the radio show said Wren said they would want to look at a match-up like that if there was an opportunity. Geez, be better. 2016-17 C-USA BOWL SCHEDULE GILDAN NEW MEXICO BOWL (Albuquerque, New Mexico) Saturday, December 17 UTSA vs. New Mexico (ESPN) 1 p.m. CST R+L CARRIERS NEW ORLEANS BOWL (New Orleans, Louisiana) Saturday, December 17 Southern Miss vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (ESPN) 8 p.m. CST BOCA RATON BOWL (Boca Raton, Florida) Tuesday, December 20 WKU vs. Memphis (ESPN) 6 p.m. CST POPEYES BAHAMAS BOWL (Nassau, Bahamas) Friday, December 23 Old Dominion vs. Eastern Michigan (ESPN) 12 p.m. CST LOCKHEED MARTIN ARMED FORCES BOWL (Fort Worth, Texas) Friday, December 23 Louisiana Tech vs. Navy (ESPN) 3:30 p.m. CST HAWAI’I BOWL (Honolulu, Hawai’i) Saturday, December 24 Middle Tennessee vs. Hawai’i (ESPN) 7 p.m. CST ZAXBY’S HEART OF DALLAS BOWL (Dallas, Texas) Tuesday, December 27 North Texas vs. Army (ESPN) 11 a.m. CST

  18. Understood. But we aren't playing them this year. They will be FBS provisional when we play. This is their last year with an FCS schedule. Not saying they are Alabama but in the eyes of the NCAA they'll be an FBS opponent
  19. Also, FWIW I don't like the Liberty games either. Not a fan of the divisive politics preached by Falwell and would rather UNT not associate with it. But if coaches and admin strongly felt getting out of the series was best and Liberty was the only option to take the games, then I don't see it as a dumb move. An unpopular one maybe, but not a "dumb" one.
  20. I'd probably award both of us a half point. In 2018, the NCAA will consider that an FBS game. NCAA says provisional status means they count as an FBS program they just aren't postseason eligible.
  21. I don't think it was anywhere near 4-6 but I agree there were more Army fans than any other visiting team I can remember in Apogee. And I've seen all but 3 games in Apogee. Impressive.
  22. You do realize Liberty is currently FBS. Not sure why you say they are FCS. They have officially made the jump. They are FBS independent.
  23. Agreed last night was good for recruiting. AND so was last week vs a winless UTEP team and virtually the same size crowd. What is good for recruiting is winning. The culmination of the season is why last night was special. Not saying Army isn't somewhat compelling for fans, but surely you don't think we had a great crowd because of Army. If we'd had FAU in town last night, Apogee might have been sold out. Success + Facilities drives recruiting. Winning a conference championship will drive recruiting. Keeping coaches here will drive recruiting. (That became much harder to do with last night's injuries.) That's what the coaches say. Gonna trust them over a fan who's never recruited on this one. I might buy fans enjoy watching Army, I won't buy it helps recruiting unless you're talking Army recruiting. Definitely helps them to get in Texas
