  1. It's possible. D2 gives out scholarships, still have a full university experience and they put guys in the NFL too. Being a D2 star is better than being a D1 walk-on in many cases. This is why perception is everything. The K-State AD said back in the 1980s that because the football team was in disarray (30+ straight losses) people also assumed the university was in disarray too. A conference doesn't necessarily determine the quality of the degree or the school experience outside of sports.
  2. And the old school way only works if you're winning. (Saban, Paterno, Mack Brown, Solich, etc.) Otherwise, it gets old fast.
  3. The National Championship hasn't been played yet. Am I coming to see you hang your NIT Championship banner? I won't be able to make that because we'll be hanging another Sweet 16 banner.
  4. Instead of lashing out and making cringe like this, ask yourself this instead. "What can we do to keep a good coach?" The answer is that there's no foolproof way to keep ANY coach. So the question should be "What can we do to make it more likely to keep a good coach?" 1. Pay more money. Large donors need to contribute more in order to make a larger pool. 2. Build a basketball facility. It plays a massive factor in recruiting. 3. People need to actually show up to the game. This team won 30+ games and none of the games sold out. Empty and half-empty environments at the Super Pit are deflating, hurts recruiting and hurts the atmosphere. There. I have now made this thread constructive.
  5. You keep a good coach by giving him everything he needs to win. McCasland wasn't given that by UNT. He won in spite of that. The Super Pit wasn't packed like it should have been, there weren't any exclusive basketball facilities (repurposing the golf and softball place isnt anywhere enough) and of course being in a 1 or 2 bid conference doesn't help either. He had to take this opportunity.
  6. Fresno State: Can we join? Big 12: No. That's the talks that were had.
  7. Memphis always has been and always will be garbage. Good luck dealing with them firsthand, you'll see what I mean.
  8. SMU taught me how to live rent-free on here. Power 5 Facebook groups are filled with people of varying ages. Of course, UNT has never played big time sports, so I forgive you for not knowing that
  9. DeepGreen wanted smoke and I brought some heat. You should see what gets posted on the Big 12 boards and Facebook groups, I don't think most of you guys would survive on there.
  10. My degree is from a school with better academics. This makes no sense.
  11. And UNT has never been in a Final 4, Elite 8 or Sweet 16. How sad.
  12. Let me know when UNT makes a Sweet 16, and by that I mean the real Sweet 16 not the rinky-dink Not Invited Tournament.
  13. They're not ready for this conversation.
  14. Man wants to play P5 ball and secure a large chunk of NIL money, he's already proven himself in the G5 by becoming an All-American. Coaches do what's best for themselves, glad the kids can too. If he was transferring to UNT, you guys would be jumping for joy.
  15. Persuade you from not trying? None of us are in control of the athletic department.
  16. Having someone on the ropes twice are still 2 losses no matter which way you try to stretch it. Sure, anybody has a puncher's chance on any given night, hence why we play the games, but I don't think UNT would be favored against any of those 6 teams you named. Maybe a push with Princeton.
  17. McCasland is doing great things, but if you think this team is on the cusp taking down Gonzaga, Texas Alabama, Miami, Creighton, or us, then either you're too geeked up over the NIT or just simply don't know anything about basketball. Again, the NIT is a great accomplishment but you truly don't realize that the deep rounds of the real tournament is a whole different monster. Can UNT get there? Sure. Are they anywhere near that level now? No. Not at all.
  18. NIT basketball is a cute competitive intermission that is good enough to hold you over through the week.
  19. Sampson had the freshmen thrown into the fire against Memphis and in other crucial games. Now its paying off.
  20. Yes, I mean eliminated in the 1st round Memphis.
  21. I hate Memphis as much as I hate Texas Tech. Im glad they lost.
  22. Good timing. Our AD isn't competent enough to make it intentional.
