  1. I wasn't really a fan of his coaching this past season, but Levine is an excellent recruiter. We had a Tight End flip his commitment form Arkansas to Houston which bumped our recruiting ranking up to 43. If I'm not mistaken we have the #1 recruiting class out of all non-AQ schools and will have more than 25 commits a'la SEC style.
  2. Kingsbury is a hell of a coach. I wish we would have promoted him at UH instead of promoting Levine but what's done is done. Now I'm going to play Devil's Advocate. If he did not fit the offense, he did not fit the offense. There are numerous schools out there for him to choose from, so it's not like his football career is over or anything. Mac has pulled some offers from kids, especially considering that for some of them, UNT was their only D1 offer. So does that mean his word can't be trusted either? Things like this happen all the time. You should think about it from a coach's perspective aside from a fan's.
  3. Apparently he's coming to Houston and will file an NCAA waiver to be immediately eligible. If true, Johnson, along with Minnesota transfer Barker in addition to our already solid receiving corps lead by 5-star recruit Greenberry will be nasty this upcoming season.
  4. The city of Houston loves its football.
  5. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=215&f=2804&t=11128736 ^This is the Coogs take on the idea of being in a regional conference that "makes sense" to the folks at GMG.
  6. I've been reading your posts for a while. You're in serious denial. WE ARE NOT COMiNG BACK TO CUSA! Especially with the likes of UTSA, Middle Tennesse, Florida Atlantic, Old Dominion and many other terrible schools polluting CUSA. Also for greenjoe who keeps stalking me, I am ex-UNT and I currently go to UH. So stop asking around the site like a creepy old man, especially considering that you're in your fifties at the youngest.
  7. Translation: I want to be in a conference with SMU and Houston.
  8. "Meatloaf is now crowloaf?" Good lord that is lame, just how dorky are you in real life? This is why I usually ignore your posts, you are horrible at smack talk. You or Kram (who actually doesn't like me because I said something about him being old or something like that once) try to come at me almost every time I post something even when it has absolutely nothing to do with flaming or trolling and you guys fail miserably doing so. ANYWAY, relating to the thread. This was a problem on the UH campus for quite a while until Khator and some UH professors started a campaign about 4 years ago called "Keep Houston Red". That and the recent success of the football team and the rise of 5-star recruit Danuel House leading the now 10-2 basketball team has cause the number of people wearing other school's shirts on campus has dropped dramatically. The ONLY person I've seen on campus wearing another school's shirt since I got here was some dude in the library wearing a Yale shirt. As far as how the Keep Houston Red campaign works, is that there is always a place where you can trade in other school's shirts and get a free UH t-shirt in return. The goal of that is to eliminate the excuse of "I don't have a UH shirt and can't afford one at the bookstore." This was also why they give out over 5000 t-shirts on game day as well. (Even though I have NEVER seen anybody wear another school's shirt at a UH football or basketball game unless they were the opposing team's fans) When we had our basketball game against Aggy at the beginning of the month, Keep Houston Red had an event where if you had an Aggy shirt, you can exchange for a UH shirt and a Popcorn voucher. Also what professors are doing now, is if you were to come into their class with another school's shirt on, they will make you turn it inside out and tell you to come by their office later on for a UH shirt. I think UNT needs a "Keep Denton Green" campaign similar to UH. An aggressive administration plus a winning football and/or basketball team will do wonders for school spirit and eliminating the other school's t-shirts on campus problem. When I was at UNT, I was annoyed at seeing people wear other school's crap on campus and even my roommate I had an apartment with wore Whorn gear around campus and we lived literally a five minute WALK from the Super Pit yet he refused to go to the UNT games and instead watched Whorn games on TV and always said "we" when referring to them. He didn't even know who Tony Mitchell was until I told him. Even then, he still wasn't interested. UNT really needs to reach out to students like him if they want to make this less of a problem. I know Villareal does it, but just hi, doing it is not enough.
  9. I like how that one guy told him to actually start winning games and it would be less of a problem.
  10. First of all: Second, I'm ex-UNT and currently attend UH.
  11. The great fight song debate continues...I'm sure if one of my kids goes to UNT someday, this will still be an issue.
  12. Not at all. They say you miss 100% of the shots you don't take and we have everything to gain and nothing to lose. This is still a BCS conference in 2013 which already makes it much, much more attractive regardless of geography and it also means we don't even have to go undefeated just to get a chance at a BCS bowl and much less a MNC. If the Power 5 decide to expand to 16 teams each, the top 10 targets are either Indy (BYU and Navy) or part of the nBE. They aren't going to to even sniff the MWC/MAC/CUSA/Sun Belt for expansion candidates. UNT has been trying to play if safe for over 30 years and look where it's gotten them. Take Aggy for another example, the SEC was/is a massive gamble which could nuke their program for decades (not that I wouldn't mind that) and the jury is still out on them, but at this rate it looks like this gamble is paying off. Same thing with TCU and they're looking good. All I'm saying, is that UNT has to stop being afraid of the unknown and to take some risks in order to reap the reward. You may or may not have already known this but there was a time where Rice was bringing 50-70,000 per game and little ol UH was only half of that. Rice was bigger and stronger and tried to force UH into 1-AA territory. BUT they got content and started doing things "The Rice way" not taking any risks or whatnot. So, UH grew and grew to the point where Rice is powerless against them now. With Khator's administration, we were able to choke out Rice as a threat and now they're trying to keep up with us. As seen when they announced stadium renovations after we revealed our stadium renderings. We all are very excited about next year and have even bought a few bodybag games like the other AQ schools.
  13. you guys are desperate for us and SMU to fail. We're not going to take a step back and go to MWC or CUSA. Especially not when there's still a BCS AQ spot for 2013. Also, here's an excerpt from one of today's ESPN insider articles about the top free agents for the power 5. The author, Ryan McGee, listed BYU at #1, noting their unique national following. Surprisingly, #2 on the list is UH. Excerpt: "When they win, the city really gets behind them," said an SEC administrator, directly referencing Houston's Southwest Conference membership from 1971 through its disbanding in '95. "They've always been caught in between the Texas and Texas A&M crowds, but if they were ever to get back to a top-level conference, where they really have a shot at competing for big championships, the potential there is through the roof." #3 is Cincy, #4 Boise and #5 Temple. The next five (in no particular order): SMU, San Diego State, Navy, USF, UConn Thought it was an interesting perspective from a former ESPN and Fox Sports television producer. Well waddya know, everybody listed by ESPN is either in the nBE or is an indy. I wonder why everybody in CUSA wants us and SMU to fail. Hmmm...
  14. There's still a BCS bid up for grabs in 2013. I seriously doubt Boise and SDSU go anywhere, but if they choose to leave then that means less competition for that BCS game. We also still get to play in Madison Square Garden for the next 2 years. So I'll take it for now.
  15. No need to worry about us or SMU, a blood pact is being made with Cincy and UCONN as ring leaders. Whether or not we sign with our blood is to be determined. Stay tuned folks. Also, if that greenjoe guy is still stalking me. I currently go to UH and it is a very well known fact around here that I'm ex-UNT. I hope that answers all of those creepy questions you had for me in so many words. I can only post once every 24 hours and I can't answer you in PMs, so I gotta post it here.
  16. I can only post once a day, so I'll try to put everything in a nutshell. I can't say too much but I can remind you guys that we were in this situation when the SWC broke up and we simply hooked up with SMU, Cincy, ECU among others and ended up creating CUSA. History may repeat itself, especially considering that the nBE schools + BYU/service academies are all the big dogs in NonAQ.. I'm also glad that nBE gets to keep its BCS bid for 2013.
  17. Um. you do realize that Houston, UCF, SMU and Memphis are all still members of C-USA and in turn the potential to revoke the memberships of UNT, FIU and La Tech among others is not out of the question in the realm of possibilities?
  18. Good lord, we're NOT coming back to C-USA. EVER. That was clear when they added UNT and UTSA.
  19. Since I'm still in trouble with the mods, I can't post a new topic. So I'm posting this here since this thread is McCarney related anyway. Brett McMurphy‏@McMurphyESPN Early names for USF job: WKU's Willie Taggart, UNT's Dan McCarney & former Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt
  20. Here are my thoughts on the new C-USA and the nBE now that we added Tulane. I'm on extremely thin ice and can only post once a day, so I'll sum it all up with a picture.
  21. When one has nothing intelligent to say, they always result to insults as you are doing now for example. Everything I have said today have all been backed up by facts, not opinion. Many of you on the other hand, unable to dispute or debate, try to bring up my personal life mixed in with childish insults. It's a shame really. Since you want to know about my fitness habits, I actually don't have much body fat and am quite active in the weight room.
  22. UNT didn't join until 2000 and by then, the Sun Belt was already established. Plus UNT isn't a charter member, so no.
  23. Learn your history. On the CUSA charter, Houston is listed as one of the founding members. When we were left out of The Big 12, instead of crying and blaming others. We rallied around the other "rejects" and "misfits" and CUSA was born.
  24. We were left with a big bag of nothing before and created C-USA. Just sayin.
