  1. This actually has more legs on it than you think. I'm leading one of the discussions on this over at Coogfans (contrary to popular belief, I'm actually one of the higher rated posters over there) , so I'm pretty on top of the smoke that's been coming up. I'm not sure what I can and can't say for obvious reason, so I'll just explain in a nutshell. Fpr starrters, UT has lost great share of footing in Houston and East Texas to A&M and the SEC. Bringing us in returns a lot of Big 12 interest in the area. Next thing, there is a war in the state legislature between Perry and his cronies and UT lead by Powers. Don't forget that UH has the 3rd most political power in the legislature, so our alumns, politicians and financial backing are quite crucial to UT's cause so they want our help along with Tech's in order to put a formidable defense against Perry. UT's logic is having 3 of the largest schools in Texas (UT, Tech and UH) as Big 12 schools which in turn isolates A&M and punishes them athletically and politically. I can also tell you that talks have indeed been confirmed by our folks within Athletic Department. Ever heard the saying "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"? That's basically what's going on here. Also, we did have Pac 12 officials attend our final game at Robertson vs Tulane which increase The Big 12's interest in us as well, considering that they do not need another major conference in Texas and most certainly not the largest city either. We have also increased our basketball arena renovation spending by 10-15 million more dollars, so this may have been the reason for doing so. It is said that there were a handful of men in suits on campus today (presumably Big 12 officials) looking at our Student Union (which has been in the process of being rebuilt, remodeled and expanded which will be done and ready to open in January 2014. The reason we were able to receive the funding and green light to go through with this while UNT has not is because of our political power, something that your administration really needs to work on). We also have until June 30th, to announce our leave to another conference and bail without paying exit fees or be stuck with a $10 million exit fee. ANother thing the folks we have planted in the legislature has made our Tier I status clear (us, UT and A&M are the only ones with Tech closely behind) which has also satisfied the academic interests of The Big 12 as well. Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt. Nothing is set in stone yet but sat the same time, don't underestiate how deep our pockets really are and what connections we do have when the time comes to play politics. Let me know if you have any questions or you guys are welcome to read our discussion or the one on The Big 12's board http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=215&f=2804&t=11552764
  2. When you let someone think they're smarter than you, you can get them to do anything you want them to do.
  3. Oh really? Below are all of the reruits we beat out multiple P5 schools for DESPITE going 5-7 with a loss to Texas State. We had the 48th best class in the country, which of course was the best in CUSA and the 2nd best in the AAC (Behind only Loserville) and better than multiple Big 12, B1G, Pac and ACC schools. So do some research before you try to knock our recruiting nor should you ever compare us to the likes of you. http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Markeith-Ambles-137411;_ylt=AiMpI5jmCliuxwOjoXGljtBDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Demarcus-Ayers-137146;_ylt=ApHHKjbSgBz_C.AcANl89fNDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Tyus-Bowser-119362;_ylt=AnHERLCENmAA5XB35lNWG0JDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Donald-Gage-109919;_ylt=AiWGzrOfC0GC0iJ6HYZLrmtDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Joseph-Glenn-130260;_ylt=AqbRsWQqMSXaxOyOj8Jei1dDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-D%27Juan-Hines-141051;_ylt=AvbllWZNB.ROm01M8_KNm4hDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Chauntez-Jackson-125711;_ylt=AmzZmeMOssKnFaDoVWHyCt9DPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Kent-London-143136;_ylt=AqKKXt0IM_q3ZOTvVDks.vZDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-John-O%27Korn-116990;_ylt=AhM0IpyGpFV_.t.5PhAEOYhDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Damien-Parris-138601;_ylt=AkfZFzOTQBKUHxf2NEoDqRRDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Damien-Parris-138601;_ylt=AkfZFzOTQBKUHxf2NEoDqRRDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Ja%27Braylin-Thomas-124807;_ylt=AuZARLLHtPaVvLavqTdnOJhDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Josh-Thomas-118424;_ylt=AjiciKKI7hSuAihGmplUvqZDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Nick-Thurman-133004;_ylt=Al9FzxMbUBsSaT5ACyPR6xRDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Caleb-Tucker-116373;_ylt=AsQ.FsxZsVci2JRvpgVjRelDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Markeith-Ambles-137411;_ylt=AiMpI5jmCliuxwOjoXGljtBDPZB4 I don't care to discuss personal details but I spelled it ut for meangreener, so I'll do the same for you. I didn't leave UNT because I was about to fail out (How in the hell would I get into UH if Im about to fail out). I left because my brother was deathly ill and I wanted to be closer to him and help my family out at the same time. I ignored most of the omments I have gotten on here but the fact that people keep spreading something that is clearly untrue really pisses me off to no end. We're just taking back what's ours. Says the school who has lost to everybody under the sun. Sorry you feel that way Harry. You're honestly one of the very few people I actually respect on GMG. If we blew you out by 3+ tds in back to back years, why would we be afraid of playing you again? Ask this question on Coogfans then. Maybe you'd have a chance to win that series.
  4. No thank you. Me and most other Coogs do not care to play UNT at all to be truly honest since the games aren't even close as of recently and hurts our SOS. If a series is announced, then they better all be in Houston since I don't see why we have to even travel to Apogee for a 32k seat stadium unless you move the game to Jerryworld. I honestly don't see what we gain from playing UNT that we don't already get from playing SMU. If this was posted on Coogfans, the responses would be much harsher than anything I've ever posted. So those of you who aren't 12 year olds in 40-50 year old bodies, please take this as me being blunt instead of trolling. (which I'm honestly not in the mood for today) Also UNT90, very seldom do you see UH and Rice offer the same recruit. Most of our recruiting battles are actually with Big 12, Pac 12, SEC and occasionally a B1G/ACC school.
  5. Knowing UNT's track record, I wouldn't be surprised if the deconstruction crew gets the names mixed up and Apogee is demolished instead.
  6. FIFY A Trash Heap that brought more people in one game than state of the art Apogee has ever brought in a lifetime. Too bad we tore it down and are building a bigger, more expensive and much better stadium with the same company that put Apogee together. Hell, if we had a football game in the empty lot where The Rob used to be, it would still bring more people than Apogee.
  7. Keep in mind they went up to Pedo valley and knocked off Penn State and made a decent run in the MAC before crushing ULM in a bowl game. The same ULM team that UNT couldn't keep up with. They bring back almost the entire eam iirc and you gotta understand that UNT does not have the depth at Defensive line to stop their power run or more specifically Beau Blankenship and Tyler Tettleton. Wise words from a wise man.
  8. So...after UNT finishes $78 million Apogee. TCU takes the spotlight by renovating Amon Carter then Baylor announces their new on-campus stadium and UH announces their new stadium using the same company who built Apogee with a cheap $115 million (not that I'm complaining) then Rice in a knee-jerk reaction, announces upcoming renovations to Rice Stadium. Now we have of course, whorn and aggy anouncing renovations of their own. Who's next? Tech?
  9. The fact that Young was able to beat out everybody on La Tech's roster and the fact that Berglund didn't beat out either DT or McNulty is pretty telling to me already. That being said, BB should be healed and ready to go by Fall Camp, if he can't beat out DT or McNulty there either, then I'm going to go on a limb and say that Young would have been the better pickup.
  10. I thought for sure if anybody from UNT was going to get drafted, it would be Dunbar. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised to see our star corner DJ Hayden come back from an injury that nearly ended his life just a few months ago and still get picked #12 overall. Plus our star RB Charles Sims has already been rated the 5th best prospect for the 2014 draft. That will be an even better tool for our already solid recruiting to have 2 UH players get drafted in the 1st round in back to back years.
  11. That's 2 ignorant statements in less than a few hours Mr.Meangreener. If we hit our ceiling, we wouldn't be building a 40-45k seat stadium with the ability to expand to 60k if necesary, in that case we would have just built another 32k seat stadium like a certain team in Denton did. If we hit our ceiling then, we wouldn't be getting the recruits we're getting despite going 5-7 with a loss to Texas State. If we hit our ceiling, we wouldn't be on every P5 school's expansion candidate list. (albeit at towards the bottom for the B1G). If we hit our ceiling, then why has both ESPN and NBC state that us, UCONN, Cincy and Temple are the reason we have our current contract? Why would our TV contract say if we along with one other school leave for a P5 conference, it would terminate the contract for everybody else? If we hit our ceiling, an SEC executive (yep, you read that right) wouldn't have made this comment: "When they win, the city really gets behind them," said an SEC administrator, directly referencing Houston's Southwest Conference membership from 1971 through its disbanding in '95. "They've always been caught in between the Texas and Texas A&M crowds, but if they were ever to get back to a top-level conference, where they really have a shot at competing for big championships, the potential there is through the roof." We saw what happened when the whole city stood behind us on our 2011 run. We easily could have had 50k if Robertson was big enough. (Hell, many Houstonians wanted us to play in Reliant so they could attend the game but we said no due to the campus homefield advantage) If we hit our ceiling, then why did ESPN Insider rate us as the 2nd most valuable non AQ school ahead of Boise, Cincy and UCONN to name a few. (BYU was #1) http://insider.espn.go.com/college-football/blog/_/name/mcgee_ncf_ryan/id/8759003/which-schools-target-future-conference-realignment-moves-college-football Again, I ask you Meangreener. PLEASE, PLEASE, think before you post.
  12. Do you ever think before you post? That had to be the most childish, uncalled for bunch of dribble I've read in a while. If the coaches truly did not trust DT, he wouldn't still be the starter in spite of 2012. Hell, if you want to see who the coaches don't trust, his name is Brent Osborn. BB is clearly unproven and according to your staff (and from the practice videos and spring game) DT is the best you guys have. Instead of making post insulting and bashing your QB, at least give constructive crticism on why you don't like him under center.
  13. You're clearly underestimating the strength of CUSA, even in its current weakened state. This year's schedule conference-wise is much tougher. 2012 2013 LSU Idaho Texas Southern Ohio U Kansas State Ball State Troy Georgia FAU Tulane UH MTSU U-LaLa La Tech MTSU Southern Miss Ark State Rice USA UTEP ULM UTSA WKU Tulsa I'm telling you right now, that these teams are far far more powerful then what you've been seeing for the past 10 years (though last year was imo an anamoly) You guys have received front row tickets to Hell. I'm sorry but you had dogfights against FAU and USA plus lost to a very weak Troy team who lost to FAU, Tulsa, La Tech, Southern Miss and perhaps Tulane will eat you guys alive. Regarding the QB situation, BB should have blown DT away according to the fantasies of many posters here. From what I've observed, DT will continue to be your starting qb.
  14. When you have to dart back to 50+ years ago to bring up glory moments, then you clearly have a losing culture. UNT won 4 straight conference tites and still couldn't get more than 20-22k and that's at best. If we were to win 4 straight conference titles, we would easily put at least 40-45k in the stands. Hell, we put almost 30k in the stands despite losing to Texas State and going 5-7 (we sold out the Texas State and La Tech game plus put 32k in Reliant even though we were 0-3) and we had 6k in a practice facility that only holds about 4.5k for our spring game. The culture at UNT needs more than winning to change it.
  15. UNT needs to get their ish together. I didn't know Texas State had a higher budget already...
  16. Agree with this for the most part. Other than Boise, USF/UCF, Cincy, UConn, BYU, Temple or UH. I don't see any Go5 schools getting a call up to the current P5.
  17. Unfortunately, UNT never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
  18. Stop your whining, if you're not going to **** then got off the pot. You can dish out the heat but you can't take it. I have thrown down with the best and have taken on dozens of people at once, got attacked personally AND had my posts restricted to only once every 24 hours and not once have I complained. I never thought I see the day when big bad Meangreener (and I say that with sarcasm) would complain about GMG being too tough. If you wanna see tough, go to 4chan, reddit or the Bodybuilding Misc.
  19. Actually, Hooya! closed in 2011. It was across the street from Sack n Save next door to Central League Grill. Before I defected from UNT, I used to spend a lot of money on those burritos.
  20. Ironically, 2 of those 13 wins came against UNT.
  21. Knowing our admin, the ONLY way we would come back to CUSA at this point is IF you gave us a Boise State type of deal (which is why we turned down the MWC because we demanded a Boise deal as well). In the A12, we're in Tier A with Cincy, UCONN and Temple which is evident that we are entitled to a deal.
