  1. Losing 5 scholarship lineman this year coming up. It's good to see that they are making offensive line a priority, although it's no surprise. At least our 3rd o-line offer, and I wouldn't be surprised to see us start targeting some JUCO guys early as well. http://247sports.com/Player/Beau-Hott-51370
  2. Yeah, I think he would thrive playing the 3-tech. Broadnax at nose at Thompson at the 3 would be really good gets, but it'll be hard to get either of them. Not sure how much Thompson wants to stay in Denton, but apparently he had a good time at junior day.
  3. Athlete out of Del City, OK. Offered. Thanks to untsportsnewz on twitter for the find. 4. Nice! At least two o-line offers out. Do you know when we offered?
  5. Yeah, I'd definitely be fine with that too. Good recruiting coordinator as well.
  6. Good luck to Coach Walters. Really good coach and recruiter. I have the utmost confidence that Coach Mac will make a good hire, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. He has done a great job a bringing in good coaches here. I hope we can lock up Coach Kevin Patrick long term. I'd like to have someone in place to take over for Coach Mac or Coach Skladany once they are ready to retire (whenever that may be).
  7. Yeah, one major thing you need to realize when you look at a kid's offer list is which offers are committable, meaning which offers are still good and which schools that offered a kid at one point or another are still actively recruiting that kid. We did a really good job of getting the kids that we wanted. We obviously didn't get everyone we wanted, and definitely not every kid we offered, but with a smaller class we really made strong pushes and got a high percentage of the kids who we targeted and made a priority. Especially once spots in the class were getting tight and we were not actively recruiting all the kids we had offers extended to, including the ones who were still uncommitted. As for Wilson, none of those offers were still good. He was once a consensus 4-star on all the major recruiting sites, but his stock plummeted during the spring of his junior year, and the summer before and during his senior season. When teams saw him in person they were not impressed. But once a team offers, recruiting services leave that offer up. Even if a team pulls that offer or it's no longer committable.
  8. True. Either way, not a lot of hope here, but who knows? Also, for a kid coming from college about 16 hours away, close to home does not have to mean in the metroplex.
  9. Technically he would count towards next class. But that extra scholarship (or two) could carry over to the 2015 class where it would end up going to him. Hope we get him though. Private school kid, so have to wonder if that aspect helps SMU or TCU. Hopefully he gives us a look.
  10. Offensive lineman from Flower Mound. Played opposite Chris Miles. 2nd team all district 5-5A. Big kid, very strong. Plays high at times, but very common among 6'5" high school o-linemen playing against much shorter competition. A lot of potential. We offered per his twitter. 11. Especially in a single-game elimination format. Villanova had one of my favorite teams to watch in 05-06 with Allan Ray, Randy Foye, Kyle Lowry, Nardi, and a big man. 4 guard lineup that won a lot of games. Benford also coached a Marquette team a few years back that was similar. Dominic James, Wesley Matthews, and Jerel McNeal were all guards and their 4 was Lazar Hayward, who was a small forward. But those guys were exceptional guards, like you said.
  12. Means will more than likely be the scout team qb this year anyways.
  13. Sorry, thanks. I assigned the pronouns incorrectly in my head.
  14. I think this guy is on the team, too. Haven't seen him listed anywhere though. http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/tx/argyle/argyle-liberty-christian-school/josh-cousins http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X1JcITDMSq8
  15. This is the main reason why Benford is not good long term, to me. As 90 said, you can blame it on the players, but when it's different players every year, where should the blame really fall? Benford is the constant through this all and as long as he's here it's hard to see us ever having the posts we need to really win significantly. Voss is doing a decent job, but he is 6'7" (listed, more like 6'6" in person) and has trouble on defense. But he's the best we have. Obviously, the production from Gaines, Coleman, and Flannigan forces Voss to play heavy minutes, and have to play the 5 often. I also have a hard time believing that Benford's other former commits would be helping out (Arthur Casimiro, Tony Nunn, and Josh Friar). Another great point that is made on here is by CMJ. His point is that if you want to blame the individual games on players, that's cool. But the season is reflective on the coach, at least as much as the players. That's true for the season, and definitely true over the course of multiple seasons, as the roster changes. I'm not personally calling for Benford's head ASAP, but if we keep him after this year we'll need him to replace Chris Jones, Jordan Williams, and TJ Taylor, as well as all of our current posts. As scary as replacing those first three guys is, I'm even more scared about what our front court recruiting will look like. Will we have a player over 6'7" on the roster in two years?
  16. In theory Cooley has a point as to why a redshirt might be a good idea, but Combs won't be redshirted. You're right. Especially if he can be an upgrade to our current 4's, especially on the defensive end.
  17. Absolutely agree with that. We certainly did win some games during Tony Mitchell's freshman year because of him. That South Alabama game comes to mind. But yes, that's just one game and very few single players can increase a team's win total significantly. Are you saying you thought Flash would be a major factor by his junior year? Because he currently is a junior and will be a senior next year.
  18. I think saying he won't help the team at all is a little extreme, but I haven't seen him play in person like you have. But I do agree with you for the most part. I don't look at him or Wesley as guys who can carry the team, at least offensively, but guys who can really contribute to a good team.
  19. Good way of putting it. Faith was a little much.
  20. It looked like he had reclaimed some faith from you, not that you were the only one, after that UAB game. Turns out UAB was just a not-that-good team that shot the ball poorly that night. Same with A&M. Their basketball team scores less than their football team.
  21. A couple notes. Another double double for Jordan Williams. We move down into a tie for second last with ECU (who won today) and Marshall (plays at Tulane tomorrow). Only team below is Rice; a team we just lost to.
  22. I don't know why everyone is complaining. We're well on our way to at least our 5th and a half moral victory of the year.
  23. I get that for a Denton kid UNT isn't the flashiest offer. But he liked the junior day and was impressed. All these kids that visit come away impressed. Wish the initial perception was better, but at least we're impressing the kids who see it first hand and give us a chance.
