  1. he enrolled in January 2010, after missing his entire senior football season in the fall of '09. So he basically finished school in 7 semesters, plus 3 summers mixed in there too. If you think about it, that was kinda slow..especially for a health major
  2. for the previous two posters...we covered this a month ago. why is it surprising now?
  3. I had not seen this post prior to my reading it about 20 seconds ago. I was stopping by because I just now saw the article on meangreensports and was gonna post the link here. Because it took the AD so long to post, I will now refrain from my original intent. I just wanted to say well done to Coach and his crew! with both 2nd place finishes, we can boast the best overall indoor track program! I'm really excited about the outdoor season, which is starting on March 15 at TCU. I think we can most definitely nab some SBC titles on our way out the door. I'm always thankful for track and field and the several meets that are within easy driving distance. I find it a shame that someone doesn't know about indoor track. Track is one of my favorite sports for so many different reasons. Hopefully you do know that track is the oldest recorded sport, starting with the stade race (modern day 200m) around 1200 BC. GMG
  4. way to go ladies! bowler, unless I missed something, Tulsa will still be in CUSA for 2014 and beyond while Tulane will be in the conference for 2014 before heading to the big Least
  5. B1G and SEC will have first picks. Once Delaney decides to move, Slive and company will go next...if not concurrently. Then the Big12 will be allowed to have their choice of the leftovers. In agreement with your statement about not expanding within the footprint, look for the SEC to add schools in North Carolina and Virginia. If B1G goes UNC and Virginia, expect NCState and VaTech. If B1G goes GATech and someone else (not UNC or VA), then expect UNC and Virginia to be added to the SEC. 16 seems like the number, apparently. These bigger conferences will, perhaps, be able to make it work better than good ol Karl Benson and the WAC..
  6. any news on this front? Google got me nothin' I'm thinking they stay in the WAC for Olympic sports and a Sun Belt football-only invite. what else is there? 1.) Tulsa leaves CUSA for Big lEast and Bankowsky grabs NMSU in the west (I don't think Tulsa is going anywhere; methinks the Big lEast is more likely to add UMass for football only in 2015 *or* leave ECU football only and eventually add UMass for all sports) 2.) Big lEast adds NMSU for football only in 2015 w/Navy (ridiculous) am I missing anything? seems like the "happy" part can't include 1-AA so we can eliminate that option. I don't think the MWC will randomly come calling. Big 12? i laughed as a I typed it. it just seems like it's bound to be the SunBelt. that leaves them with 8 all-sports members, two non-football (UALR & UTA) and 1 football-only. It makes more sense to have 8 conference games, especially since every other conference has a minimum of 8 now
  7. 5 gold stars for you, Trey White we don't have any appropriate emoticons available...
  8. if it results in a WIN then the money spent is well worth it. Heck, I would be perfectly fine with playing this game against a lower tier FBS opponent AND also bringing in an FCS team like TX Southern for an additional win. Just win, baby. I come to Apogee to watch the Mean Green curb stomp whoever they're playing. It could be Forestburg HS 6man team for all i care
  9. are we bringing new donors into the fold? or are you referring to potential future donors? I had assumed (yes, i know what they say about assuming) that the donors who are stepping up for baseball are already current big time donors. that's awesome if the baseball donors are new, though! i take back my reservations if baseball is being completely funded by a new source. thanks for the info regarding Title IX. that's good to know. would hate to see us lose a sport.. also, isn't it a bit sad that our topic over the bball practice facility has turned into a baseball conversation? last thoughts for the post: it doesn't matter now whether I think baseball is a wise move or not...apparently it is coming soon from things i've SIAP. the boys of spring will have my full support when that time comes. I will still continue to feel like we're not going as far as we should with football, though. ie indoor facility, more support staff, better home match-ups for the fans, sicker uniforms, better travel arrangements for the athletes...
  10. speaking of Title IX, anyone care to guess which women's sport we'll be adding? or might we be thinking about cutting a men's sport? I'm definitely curious to know. forevereagle might get his wish and it could be golf, track and field, or cross country. i sure hope not
  11. baseball...what a waste of money. spend that cash on football! we shouldn't be adding sports until we've got an indoor facility and we're paying coaches like we're big time. instead, we'll be funding a non-revenue sport with what little resources we have. donors may be funding the start up for baseball, but will they be covering the total expenses every year? doubtful. football first
  12. i think New Caledonia still has a chance to grab the OFC spot in the playoff if they can pull of the road upset next month.. stinks that we lost the game, especially after grabbing the 1-nil lead on a deuce goal, but I think we'll be fine. Just win at home and steal a few (or take the draws) on the road. I even tried to put my pessimistic mode on and I still couldn't really see a way where we finish 5th or 6th. I am NOT saying that I'm ok with 4th...far from it, but even in my most dire scenarios I can't see us not finishing top 4 in the hex. I like our chances in the playoff, even if it comes to that. Just a super early prediction, with 9 games to go (I like predictions): 1. U.S. 2. Panama 3. Mexico 4. Jamaica 5. Honduras 6. Costa Rica I really have no clue. I hope (and think) that we'll get on track and grab the top spot, I think Panama is gonna start rolling (predict they won't lose at home) to grab their first berth ever, Mexico for the 6th time in a row, and then Jamaica off to play NZ ( don't think New Caledonia pulls off the W in Mordor), gave the nod to Honduras over CR because of their recent win over us, plus the Ticos have a tough finishing stretch.
  13. we still have Chad Davis, right? he's an espn 3*..
  14. We need a DB?? isn't this kid still available? http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/158096/myron-turner http://washingtonstate.scout.com/a.z?s=137&p=8&c=1&nid=6412988 I wouldn't mind the Mean Green developing a relationship with Mathis and the DeSoto folks
  15. found it: A: Are there different rules for graduate students? Student-athletes who have graduated are subject to the same release requirements as undergraduates and must have at least one year of eligibility remaining. To be eligible for the one-time transfer exception, football, basketball, baseball and men’s ice hockey student athletes must have been denied a scholarship renewal at their original school. If the student-athlete wishes to pursue a degree program not offered at the original institution, he or she is eligible for a waiver to compete immediately at the new school.
  16. Can a baseball, basketball, men’s ice hockey or Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) football student-athlete transfer and compete at a new school as a grad student? Yes. Student-athletes in these sports that have graduated undergrad can transfer to a graduate school at another campus and play right away without submitting a waiver provided: • The student-athlete has one year of eligibility remaining • The student-athlete has not previously transferred schools • The original school releases the student-athlete from his or her scholarship *From NCAA.org FAQ Showers is set to graduate in May, I believe, a la Garrett Gilbert from Texas to SMU. I also thought the new school had to offer a master's degree program that the old school didn't. I think we have several master's degrees at North Texas that no other university can claim... ...would take this kid in a heartbeat. Didn't he almost beat out the A&M QB, Johnny Manziel, this past spring?
  17. and yet when I expect 7 wins or heads to roll, you cut me down. the 9 wins is just for fun, in all reality I expect this program to be a bowl team or for there to be change. But to take your agrument 90, if we win 3 games then you can't complain at all, for ANY reason during the 2013 campaign. That means you can't be negative until we've registered our 10th loss (thus condemning us to a guaranteed 2 win season - which is less than three). Worst case scenario: UNT90 isn't allowed to be negative on gmg.com until November (the earliest that we can be guaranteed fewer than his requisite 3 wins) because he expects us to win 3 games. Don't be upset if we meet or exceed expectations, only if we fall short
  18. I've got a whole pitcher of green kool-aid for anyone who'd like a glass. hope springs eternal
  19. playing at Texas A&M and at TCU are loads of fun. SMU is gonna lose by 40+ again in College Station and likely 21+ in Fort Worth. A&M only plays the series because they like the presence in Dallas and giving their fans a 9th HOME game every other year. and yes, I'd love to have Tech ('13), Baylor('13), A&M ('12), TCU ('12) at Apogee, and I really hope we're somehow working on making that happen, even if it's 2 road games in exchange for 1 home game, BUT i also know our program needs to win. We could possibly go 3-1 w/ our conference schedule. SMU, in all reality, will go 0-4
  20. HOME: W Idaho W Ball State W Middle Tennessee W Rice W UTEP W UTSA AWAY: W at Ohio L at Georgia L at Louisiana Tech W at Southern Miss W at Tulane L at Tulsa 9-3. +/- 2
  21. wardly, I'm with you. I think we should find room for Myron Turner...if for no other reason than to have Coach Mathis increase his goodwill to North Texas from that DeSoto pipeline for those of you who don't know Turner or his situation: http://highschoolsportsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/01/after-db-myron-turners-offer-is-pulled-by-washington-state-claude-mathis-says-mike-leach-is-no-longer-welcome-at-desoto.html/
  22. not a bad road tripping schedule at all! We get to go to both Athens' of the West (Ohio and Georgia) and Southern Miss, Tulsa, Tulane, and LA Tech, with a nice home schedule to boot! let's go 6-0 at Apogee in 2013
  23. calm down chrisfisher. it was a question...which still hasn't been answered. I'm taking from your response that we might actually have 0 bench points. just kinda keep tracking in my mind, and i thought it was 1
