  1. i hope our athletic department doesn't try to hype up the CUSA move this year. It's not really anything to be excited about or thump your chest over it's just depressing. About the only teams to be thankful for anymore are maybe Rice and UTEP, and I'm sure they have some seriously roving eyes these days..
  2. I agree. Northern Illinois would be a catch. I was thinking one of these teams instead of WKU, though
  3. in regards to the topic of realignment: why hasn't a MAC team been mentioned? They wouldn't be start-ups a la Old Dominion, Charlotte, etc and they wouldn't be Sun Belt 2.0 (technically - since they'd be something "new"). I know that UMass is football only (with other sports in the A10), but why not figure out which is the weakest member (ie wandering eyes) and get them to join old conference-mate, Marshall, in CUSA. Ohio looks just about right! and if they don't want to move, how about Miami (OH)? Or maybe something crazy like Buffalo or even UMass..how close is the campus to Boston? anyways, just kinda wondered why a MAC school wasn't considered a viable option for expansion for reference:
  4. dang, golfing! I didn't see this when I started a new thread. I scanned the thread titles and thought I was good to go. my apologies
  5. ...but some are more equal than others... Based on the proposed NBC Sports contract, ESPN can terminate the contract with the unnamed 10 if 2 conference members leave. The contract even breaks them into groups...a group A consisting of Cincinnati, UConn, cougar high, and Temple http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/9071683/big-east-media-rights-deal-terminated-two-more-school-exits-according-sources poor ponies
  6. it is indeed UNTFan23. hopefully the coogs can take out the "whorns" on back to back days. cooger queen, what is your favorite name for the new conference? serious question.
  7. a little surprised LSU didn't land an NIT bid. I was for sure the SEC was gonna be a 4-bid league, possibly 5 if Arkansas was included too
  8. Didn't know if this had already been posted and discussed, but I haven't seen it anywhere else. I apologize if its a double-post http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2013/03/06/athletic-director-salary-database-methodology/1968783/ some interesting numbers in there. RV's in the range of Colorado, Florida State, and Cincy and earns twice as much as Louisiana's ragin cajuns AD 7 AD's at, or above, $1 mil including Texas, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio State, Florida, Notre Dame, and Louisville.
  9. stupid is as stupid does hopefully Tulsa isn't stupid
  10. Mississippi State. Last night, Rick Ray sent me a text message that simply said, “Can’t make this up. Jalen Steele tore his ACL last night. That’s FOUR season ending knee injuries.” I know you think your favorite team has endured tough times in 2012-13. But I don’t think any team in the country has matched Mississippi State’s situation. Still, MSU’s fan base will feast on last weekend’s win against Ole Miss for months.
  11. if he can get the Tigers to beat Ole Miss and then win 2 at the SEC tourney, I think they might get a bid. crazy! a hot team and a weak schedule, very nice combination
  12. what a joke! that might be worse than Leaders and Legends divisions if Bankowsky plays his cards right, CUSA can easily be the 6th best conference pretty soon.. 1. SEC 2. B1G 3. Big 12 3. PAC 5. ACC 6. MWC 7. CUSA 8. MAC 9. AmOne 10. Sun Belt
  13. El Paso, has the sports guy mentioned this again since? I'm still curious
  14. i like Fox News...does that count?
  15. With all due respect, that's crazy talk If you're going to base our future baseball success on Southern Miss's then what about football? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they went to a bowl game 18 years in a row and only had 5 losing seasons in the last 50 years. Where's that success for us? It seems to me that if he is going to easily transfer baseball success, then it should only follow that football should've been the same way. Saying that we'll do it the right way simply because USM is perenially ranked is like saying North Texas will be in the top quartile of our football conference every year because TCU/LSU/USM (our AD's three previous affiliates) are good at football. I'm sure there are many on this board who have an idea of how baseball should work, it doesn't mean we're gonna get to put that plan into productive action I hope you're right. I wish more people in this world had that kind of faith
  16. I can't speak for others, but I don't take the position that "baseball forbids" the addition of the indoor facility. Perhaps I'm doing a terrible job of defining my stance, but I am cool with baseball being added. In fact I'm all for adding men's soccer, as well, and eventually men's/women's lacrosse and perhaps gymnastics... men's tennis/men's swimming and diving, equestrian/rowing...BUT I think we should focus on football and finish it up first. In the arms race that is college football, I'd hate to fall even further behind. Why can't we be like Boise State (or even better)? or maybe even TCU? I would sure like to pass cougar high and pony town definitively. In summary, I think we should prioritize the cash cow and then begin building the brand and the department once football is taken care of. Baseball could be first up. It frightens me to think that we might do baseball the same way. Half @$$. If you're gonna do something, do it right. If you're gonna commit, commit all the way. don't put your finger into too many pies, until you've mastered the original pie-making process
  17. exactly! Rice is one of only 60 AAU schools in the country. When Pitt and Rutgers leave, that will leave the new big hodgepodge 8+ (1+1) +1 with only 1...Tulane. CUSA will have just as many elite institutions and better regionality. Looking at a map of the new conference in 2014-2015, you have UCF-USF, SMU-UH, and Cincy-Memphis (somewhat). That leaves leaves three without the real regional rival - Temple (which is just happy to be there), Tulane (relatively close to the Texas two), and UCONN. The "football only" members will be ECU and Navy. Annapolis is "close" to Philly so Navy/Temple can pair off as rivals and Tulane/ECU entering together can be considered a possible pair. Seems like UCONN is up there by themselves.. An argument could be made for Tulane needed a rival, cue Tulsa; but the map seems a tad bit skewed to the south and southwest from UConn's point of view. I bet you're right. UMass is probably getting a lot of push from the elder statesmen in all of this. UMass-UConn just kinda makes sense, especially if UConn "gives their word" that they aren't shopping their wares to the ACC
  18. my apologies MeanGreen, when I went back to the thread "practice facility update" under basketball, it was forevereagle who made that point.
  19. wardly, untjim1995, playoffpush..for being the voices of reason Mean Green(went to school for 6 years), you keep bringing this point up. Those sports are already in place. His keyword was "add". And besides the only other men's sports we have are track/golf, which cost infinitely less than baseball. In fact, track costs will be there regardless since we sport a women's team. However, baseball requires new revenue which must be sustained. Baseball is MUCH more expensive than the two current sports we already have. and I know that some on here believe that "we're good" in terms of title ix, but I wouldn't be surprised if we hear of your wish coming true within the next 2-3 years (AD stops funding men's track)
  20. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/bigeast/2013/03/04/catholic-seven-7-negotiations/1963671/ - there is $100 million in exit fees in the current league fund Cincy, UConn, USF to get the lion's share (45-60%) "Catholic 7" to get around 20-40% Temple, SMU, UCF, Memphis, cougar high..and possibly tulane, East Carolina getting around $1.5-2 mil ea - the basketball tournament will most likely be played at UConn in 2014 - split will be effective July 2013 I really hope the admin at Tulsa is intelligent and remains in CUSA to grow the brand. There is no brand in the "hodgepodge whatever 8+(1+1)+1" There is a reason noone wants Temple, UConn and as West VA is finding out, constant travel is not all that its cracked up to be. I can see UMass getting that 12th football spot and remaining in the A-10 for the rest. If that happens, win-win for us.
  21. hey, we have the best neutral site record in the Belt so obviously that means we're gonna roll in Hot Springs
  22. from the Belt website: TWO TEAM TIE‐BREAKING FORMULA FOR DETERMINING TEAMS SEEDED 3 THROUGH 11 A. Won‐lost record of head‐to‐head competition between the two teams. B. Winning percentage of each team vs. the first‐seeded team. C. Winning percentage of each team vs. the second‐seeded team. D. * This process continues with winning percentage vs. the third‐seeded team, fourth‐ seeded team, etc., as necessary, until the tie is broken and seeding is complete. E. If a tie still exists, the tie will be broken by a coin flip by the Commissioner. We were both swept by Middle and since, per Belt seeding procedures, the West division winner automatically gets seed #2, we can finish no lower than 7th. In the event we do "tie" with South Alabama, we will get the nod because 1) if UALR wins the west, we split with them while USA was swept 2) if Arkansas State wins the west, we swept the Red Wolves while USA split I'm gonna go ahead and guess that we finish 7th in the Belt and play either Troy or Louisiana
  23. we're #6 atm, w/ Florida Atlantic and South Alabama a half-game back at 9-10. If FAU beats FIU then we slide to 7th since they swept the series. I don't know how tie-breakers work if USA beats Troy and we're both 10-10. We can finish no lower than 8th, which means we get LaLa, Monroe, or Troy in the first round.
  24. for those who want the basics: Overall Rank - School #1 Texas #13 Texas A&M #32 TCU #41 Texas Tech #51 Baylor #66 Houston #74 SMU #94 UTEP #95 North Texas #113 Rice #118 UTSA #119 Texas State and last...our home opener #125 Idaho No league + Bad location = Very, very difficult job.
  25. http://www.athlonsports.com/college-football/ranking-college-footballs-coaching-jobs-2013 While I think Texas and A&M will always be ahead of us and Tech, TCU, Baylor are no doubt better right now, I think with a focus on even better facilities (I'm talkin bout indoor football facility specifically) we could realistically be a top 5 job in the state. I think 9 is probably about right as of now. Before getting to us, I was fully expecting Athlon to have us around #10-11 for Texas. There's no reason we shouldn't realistically be a top 63 destination in 1-A, considering where our base is.
