  3. Good for him http://wvmetronews.com/2015/07/04/cato-impresses-in-cfl-debut/ " MONTREAL, Quebec – Montreal Alouettes coach Tom Higgins had a hunch and after losing his first two quarterbacks in the opening game of the season, Higgins decided to follow his gut and give former Marshall quarterback Rakeem Cato his first professional start, against the defending Grey Cup Champions, Calgary Stampeders. Cato did not disappoint. Cato completed 20-of-25 pass attempts for 241 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in his first professional football game. Marshall’s most prolific passer was even trending on Twitter in the United States and Canada during the Alouettes first win of the season."
  4. AWASOM REMAINS ABSENT -- Defensive end Adrian Awasom remains on the suspended list while trying to get passport issues sorted out, Benevides said. The former New York Giant, who has a Super Bowl ring, and defensive back Cord Parks were obtained from the Argos in the trade that sent Khalif Mitchell to Toronto. A three-time conference all-star at North Texas, Awasom was born in the West African nation of Cameroon and still carries the passport of his birth. “He called us at 2 in the morning and told us there was an issue,” Benevides explained. “He plans to rectify it. It’s one of those things that happens at every camp.” Awasom was signed by the Argonauts last December, so he’s had time to figure out a move to Canada is not the same as going from Texas to Oklahoma. He was supposed to be in Kamloops for the start of rookie camp last Thursday but received permission to delay his arrival because of a family matter. 5. 3. DE Adrian Awasom North Texas A native of Cameroon, the three-time All Sun Belt defensive lineman has a Super Bowl ring from his time with the New York Giants (2005-07), playing mostly on special teams. The six-foot-four, 270-pound defensive end was with the Minnesota Vikings and two teams in the United Football League before the Argos signed him last December. The defensive line is far from being the most pressing need of the Lions, but the team probably will come up with a creative way to keep Awasom, either on the PR or IR. We have a pretty deep defensive line, but I think Awasom can add to our depth, McEvoy said. The two players we got in the Mitchell trade are not just warm bodies. Theyre players weve been aware of for some time. Read more: http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/crunch+time+rookies+show+their+stuff+camp/8452432/story.html#ixzz2UmoeXBzh
