  1. Free crumbling concrete and mold for any who wish to come to the track meets. Can you imagine the thoughts going through the new track coach's mind about his new home?
  2. This reply you have made is LAME! Loosen up fella before someone pulls down your shorts and we all laugh at your reverse G-String!
  3. I swear somewhere it has to be written down that it IS the AD's job to improve things. Seems like some have forgotten it is his job to do so and continue to do so.
  4. What a wonderful turnout it was. The parking was a slight example of game day. Basically, if you are not a suite holder, you are not parking close in. If you have club level, you are nearby over at Victory Hall parking lot and the adjacent one that was built I was told. As for tailgating, it will be all over the place. The rest of us can park at Fouts and get a little exercise, not to mention a bit extra this first season as the foot bridge will not be completed until next season. No shuttles as of yet, or atleast that they will admit to. The traffic will be nuts so plan to arrive way early or you will be more than irate by the time you park! The roads just simply are not big enough to handle the flow in their current state. I heard a few folks grumble about the suites being closed for the event. An inspection taking place on Monday prevented it as they wanted to keep it in shape without all the extra fingerprints, etc. we were told. Makes total sense as the facility is not 100% complete as most think. Loved the amount of restrooms and concession stands. What will be the nice touch of class is the fact that all of the outside vendors will be in a permanent stand and not look like the fairgrounds! As for the beloved funnel cake guy, sorry but he's out. Someone will be selling them though, in a stand so we were told. As for tailgaters and those who are in need of a drink or dog, there will be the stands on the East side that will be open before the stadium so that you don't starve. I heard someone mention that the black rubber pellets had not "settled" yet. Funny in a sort of way as the turf has to be machine swept every 30-40 some odd hours. They won't settle much as they are "broomed" to keep the turf in shape. Seems like I heard somewhere around 40 tons of that stuff was put on the field. It was over 200 of those large bag/bundles that are on the back side of Fouts. The turf alone was in excess of $400k and is the same as in quite a few NFL stadiums. The foreman that oversaw our install for the turf company is the one who only does the NFL teams for that company. I really wish they had some more stuff rotating on the video board as it is a really nice screen, but they do have to keep some suspense to the place. Heck the smaller board of the two is almost as large as the one in Fouts if I am not mistaken. The speakers are going to be loud as ever. Way more speakers and amplifiers driving this system than what we are used to. If anyone has noticed, there is twice as many lights in the new stadium that will illuminate the field/seats. There will be no comparison in the daylight effect when compared to Fouts. As far as the gift shop goes, there will be mannequins in each window with attire that is for sale. Due to the contract relationship with the bookstore and the company that runs/owns it, they are the one's selling the stuff. All of the Nike gear ships today, so expect it in the store in 5-7 days. Expect to see quite a bit more attire in the shop soon along with jerseys I was told. This was just a teaser! If you don't see what you want, go talk to Rodney the bookstore manager. Maybe he can bring it in. The stadium has obviously been constructed with alot of aforethought. I believe it shows and everyone I came across appeared in awe of the facility that they have longed for. For those of us that know Brian Bethea, we owe him a big thanks as the man has spent countless hours on this project. RV gave him a quick atta boy, but I got to tell you, he is owed alot more than that. If it were not for Brian, RV would not be looking so well on this project. For those not aware, the facility is way more accommodating to the TV crews for games. On the South end of the stadium, they have it set up so the satellite trucks can set up there, plug in their wires to the boxes, go set up their cameras in place, and run very little wiring. Cameras on the field have wiring access points at field level. What does that mean to us you might ask. More televised games as the overhead costs of setting up has been reduced by 75% for those folks. You throw in some wins and we will reach more fans across the nation alot faster. Some may not like to hear this, but I saw it the other night and I have to admit, it bothered me. A brand new stadium with top notch everything and people are too damn lazy to throw their trash away! Really? For crying out loud, don't literally trash the palace. Be a good steward, have more pride and show your love through a simple act of cleaning up after yourself. Yes I know they have clean up crews but would it hurt if we all picked up after ourselves? The less crews it takes, the less money is expended on that and it can be better spent elsewhere. Just a thought for those who care about our "new home". All in all, what a wonderful new stadium. Lot's of smiles I saw as people seemed genuinely pleased with what they saw. We have taken a giant step and I am proud of it. You should be to!
  5. I am surprised you didn't know since you elude to being connected to big time donors. The Strange's were considered to be in the group, but not now evidently. It is not a secret when you publicize it in the press. So......no, I think I will repeat it and will still be spoken to by them!
  6. Adler - If this was only RV's decision, then why would V. Lane be spending so much time with him on this and going on the road to interview folks? RV's job is on the line and it is well known as such. Obviously you have not been in or around the Athletics Department as of late, or you went blindfolded and deaf! I don't care what gets built, if this one is a failure, he will be leaving on a bus shortly after the coach. You don't disregard V. Lane's knowledge and experience in dealing with a higher conference when it comes to such a critical hire. But to further explain, you don't disregard your boss or his opinion if you want to remain employed! I respect your opinion, but this is simply facts. RV is stressed to the max right now and it is showing. Don't believe me, go talk to him and see for yourself as I have. I would dare say he is stressed enough that you can't drive a ten penny nail up his arse at the moment!
  7. Little Birdie says that RV and V. Lane traveled together out of town late last week. Wouldn't we like to know who they went to visit? I think this also shows that RV is not really making the choice here but being led/directed by V. Lane who has the experience in dealing with C-USA and what not as to where we want to go. It would appear that the big boss has a good handle on things and may have just been retained to accomplish certain things that are vital, like this coach search. I feel like we are probably sitting pretty with good direction at the top. Time will tell, but I get the feeling in the Athletics Office that everyone knows RV's job is on the line with this one. A lot of serious looking faces pop up when you mention such words.
  8. The difference that I believe is clear in this is that most of us type out our opinion. You appear to be typing out your emotions! Just remember......in 100 years, it won't matter!
  9. I heard the new toilet paper in the Administration Building is a bit rough. Something about V Lane ordering that all of PMG's letters to him should be used for a better cause. Wonder if he even read them?
  10. But then you would hear all the screaming about a one game miracle.....PMG would shat himself!
  11. I give the young man credit in the fact that he realized he was in jeopardy if he continued to play and thought more of others (ie,Family) than himself. Especially considering the talent he has had access to and surrounded by growing up. Just unfortunate for him.
  12. Rudy - You are correct, i do not know what really happened with Leavitt, but I am for him as a coach. So I think you misunderstood me. I am saying that it was spoken that he had too much Samsonite for us. That is straight from the horse's mouth. Just saying it is one name that we probably could drop off the list at this point if that mindset is still holding true by those making the decision.
  13. The only thing that would have made this even more special would for it to have been sold out and a packed house. Great fan support for the team as far as noise and cheering. Congratulations to JJ and the boys!
  14. If you really want to know who paid for the expansion, why don't you call Virgil Strange? Virgil's company built it and I am pretty certain he knows how it was paid for. After all, some of you might recognize the name better if you consider his wife is Gayle Strange, the former BOR chair. By the way, Strange no longer is sending in money due to the Bataille fallout according to the grapevine. J.V. ‘Virgil’ Strange (’68) of Denton. Strange is owner of Axiom Commercial Co., a partner in multiple construction and development ventures in Denton, and president of Tremont Construction Corp. He is also the founder and former president of ITEC Steel Inc. and Golden Triangle Development Corp. His service to UNT includes work on and donations to the Alumni Center in the Gateway Center, the Shrader Pavilion, the hospitality deck at Fouts Field, tree preservation at Eagle Point and the Student-Athlete Development Center — funded by Strange and his wife, UNT Regent Gayle Strange (’67). Strange is a lifetime member of the President’s Council and the North Texas Exes and a member of the Mean Green Club.
  15. Very nice letter. I think it the best telling sign of how Dodge really was/is as a man is how he handled the exit. Not one snide, rude, crass remark. Simply a thank you for the opportunity. Dodge knows where his reward is and it is not on a football field. He is a class act, unfortunately not a coach that thrived at this level as a HC.
  16. I really wish RV would simply say publicly that Leavitt is out because he has too much legal baggage. That way PMG would have a better understanding of what has already been said, just not publicly. I don't give two sh%&s what these so called big time donors think, it is not their choice either. There will be an elevator for their needs. Tell them to donate more so they can have their name on a plaque inside of it. But let me guess. My statement doesn't matter because I don't have thousands of posts and have not been on this forum forever. Seems like anyone that is new here is less than welcomed by the Ole' Guys Alumni as PMG likes to call it. Automatically, it is assumed that if you are new you are somehow only rooting for Canales. It is a shame that a forum for the fans is constantly barraged by pop shots from one or two people. Harry, maybe it is time to announce that the status quo is not what you intended when you started this place and new opinions might be worth something. To those who are a little older Alumni and do appreciate a differing opinion here and there, thank you. (I would have put emoticons throughout my text but I figure why pollute a post with BS!) PMG - Notice the normal text size? It is ok to be normal. Not everyone wants or needs to read text that is the size of a headline, or is it that you think it makes your opinion grandeur.
  17. We have Green Lights! It is lit as of 7:28.
  18. I just figured out why PMG has so many posts - over 10,000. He can't stand the fact that others have opinions. PMG, please realize that others may disagree with you and their postings are simply their opinion. You don't type a response, you type paragraphs. As far as these 5 big donors go, let them leave then. Because in case you haven't heard, in 100 years, it won't matter. When one leaves, another takes the place. Sometimes it takes getting rid of the old in order to grow bigger and better. Hope you took your blood pressure medicine because your anger is obvious in your posts and alot of us see it.
  19. No they didn't have two different parts they had registration at the Coliseum then after a few spoken words by some folks like UNT's President, off they went to tour the campus and do what they do. 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Registration 12:00 - 12:30 PM Welcome Session 12:50 - 2:00 PM College of Engineering Tour 1:00 - 1:45 PM Academic Session I 1:00 - 3:30 PM Academic Fair/Student Services Fair 1:00 - 4:00 PM Student's Choice * Residence Hall Tour * Campus Tour * Student Panel * Parent Panel * Financial Aid Presentation 2:00 - 2:45 PM Academic Session II 3:00 - 3:45 PM Admissions Presentation (Freshman/Transfer) 4:00 PM Tailgate 6:00 PM Football Game vs. Troy
  20. Viagra couldn't even prop him up anymore. He is a perfect example of a "Has Been". Should have retired when it was good!
  21. Since some may not be able to make it to all of the games they need your help. Instead of sitting on your arse for the whole game, with the minor exception of getting up for substance to fill your turkey oven, why don't you stand up the whole game and yell twice as loud as you normally would. That way you will be serving a dual purpose while at the game and burning calories at the same time. Ever notice that those seated on the floor look like a bunch awaiting a sermon? Damn people, act like you are at a ballgame! We don't care how expensive your clothes are, wear a shirt that even remotely looks like you are there to support the Mean Green.
  22. I hate to admit it, but we are stuck with this one. I find it hard to believe she could coach her way out of a shoebox!
  23. For those who cannot believe such, yes OU did scrimmage our basketball team. Prior to the scrimmage, the NT Preview took place at the Colisuem. The preview ended at 12:30 as far as the portion of it at that location and at 2pm, OU arrived. Perhaps the coach from OU standing on the corner of NTB and Highland Street was a clue as he waited for Dickies BBQ to deliver their catering. The great thing about B-Ball is no matter what conference you are in, you have an equal shot at the big dance. You just have to thrive and survive!
