  2. After Friday night’s Virginia Tech loss to Boston College, fellow writer Ricky LaBlue sent me a story early Saturday morning, detailing another defeat of the Hokie football team. After posting it, I texted him that maybe we should stop writing about the downward direction of the program for the rest of the season. Why, he asked. Because, I replied, it’s all been said. To continue to point out how Justin Fuente has lost control of the program would be like beating a dead horse. There’s an old saying in sales that says you should stop selling once you’ve made the sale. To continue talking can only end up hurting you. I think that’s the case now with Fuente and Virginia Tech. It’s over. There’s a divorce coming and I don’t believe anyone thinks otherwise. I have in my circle of friends the most positive “the glass is half full” Hokie fans that walk this planet, and during Friday’s game I was getting texts saying “you were right, we need to make a change.” To continue talking can only end up hurting people, including assistant coaches, players and families. Everyone knows. read more: https://dullesdistrict.com/index.php/categories/virginia-tech/as-far-as-i-m-concerned-enough-has-been-said
  3. Yes we haven’t been discussing this lately cause it looks like Seth may be coming back now that he is winning games.
  4. JSU takes the prize in college football this season for unexpected twists, unlikely upgrades and questionable decisions after the school announced it was joining Conference USA (and moving from the FCS to FBS) on a news-dump Friday, and then, A DAY LATER, announced that it was firing coach John Grass. This is the same team that started the season being shut out by UAB 31-0, BUT THEN went on the road the next week and upset Florida State 20-17 with a walk-off touchdown. Jacksonville State, we love you, and so we’re worried. And also really excited. But also definitely confused. Jacksonville State was already leaving the OVC for the ASUN but was going to compete in the WAC in football until, well … somebody please help this make sense. I feel like I’m at a Jacksonville State frat party and someone just walked in the front door with a chainsaw, handle of rum and a pet goat named Randy Owen Rides Again. read more: https://www.al.com/sports/2021/11/jacksonville-state-will-bring-the-party-to-cusa.html?outputType=amp
  5. Since the moment news broke that Gary Patterson and TCU were parting ways, Frog fans have been curious to see who takes over in the head role. TCU Athletic Director Jeremiah Donati gave clues last Tuesday as to who TCU is considering to be the next head coach. During his press conference, Donati was asked about what qualities he’s looking for in the next coach, and he gave us these hints: Not necessarily required to have Texas ties, although that would be nice Currently a head coach/head coaching experience Potentially more offensive-minded (Donati went on to talk about how it might be ‘unfair’ to have a more defensive-minded coach try to fill Patterson’s shoes). TCU conducted seven interviews last week, including Tony Elliott and Billy Napier, and are continuing to have more conversations this week. read more: https://www.frogsowar.com/2021/11/8/22761538/tcu-coaching-rumor-mill-leader-s-in-the-clubhouse

  8. The interest was sincere, and the push was legitimate, but in the end there was not nearly enough for Texas Tech to bring back Art Briles. According to sources, Texas Tech’s search for a new football coach to replace Matt Wells no longer includes the former Baylor head coach. There was never going to be more than a small chance that Briles would return to Lubbock, and now there is no chance. read more: https://amp.star-telegram.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/mac-engel/article255472671.html
  9. Where TCU turns next will be fascinating as Texas and Oklahoma’s Big 12 exits—whenever they actually happen—create an easier path for everyone to the conference championship. A source tells SI that TCU is interested in current or former head coaches, rather than up-and-coming assistants. A presumed plug-and-play fit could be right down the road in SMU’s Sonny Dykes, multiple sources say. Former Washington and Boise State coach Chris Petersen could also be in play if he’s not content with TV life. Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente (a former Patterson assistant) is also a name that has been connected to the opening, but his own job security issues in Blacksburg make him an unlikely choice. read more: https://www.si.com/.amp/college/2021/11/03/college-football-coaching-rumors-florida-lsu-miami
  10. HUNTINGTON – Marshall University is standing at a precipice with what seems to be infinite potential ahead of it with a new conference affiliation as well as the announcement of Brad D. Smith as the next university president. There is no reason to delay taking that next step toward progress and beginning to realize that potential, no matter the initial costs. Marshall is scheduled to join the Sun Belt Conference no later than July 1, 2023 but entering the conference next July is an option on the table. Leaving Conference USA at the conclusion of the current academic year will come at a price. It will cost Marshall $3 million in exit fees to cut ties the fledging league. It’s a price worth paying. “It’s about moving forward. It’s about potential and it’s about growth,” Interim Athletics Director Jeff O’Malley explained on Monday. “We want to elevate Marshall University and Marshall Athletics and the Sun Belt offers us the best way to do that.” read more: https://wvmetronews.com/2021/11/02/opinion-the-price-to-leave-early-c-usa-is-worth-it/
  11. Dykes, whose Mustangs are 7-1 to star the season, has history with Texas Tech as it's the program where his father, Spike, became a coaching legend leading the Red Raiders for 13 seasons as they transitioned from the Southwest Conference to the Big 12. If Dykes was to leave for either program, he favors TCU over Texas Tech at the moment, sources tell CBS Sports. read more: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/tcu-coaching-candidates-smus-sonny-dykes-topping-target-list-played-role-in-gary-pattersons-exit/amp/
