  1. The first big blow to the Missouri Valley Conference in the recent conference realignment shift has taken place and Loyola Chicago is headed out the door. After nine years in the Valley, the Ramblers will move to the Atlantic 10 Conference starting in July. The move comes with the Valley set to add Belmont University before the 2022 season. Matt Norlander of CBS Sports reported the Missouri Valley Conference is now "ambitiously pursuing a plan to add multiple schools" while citing sources. The three schools in the mix are reportedly Murray State, UT Arlington and Kansas City — with Murray State and UT Arlington being the two strongest candidates. "In its 115-year history, the Missouri Valley Conference has undergone many changes in membership," MVC Commissioner Jeff Jackson said in a statement. "The Valley will continue to remain proactive and progressive as we navigate the current collegiate environment. Loyola Chicago has been a valued member of the Missouri Valley Conference and we wish Loyola all the best as it begins its next chapter." read more: https://amp.news-leader.com/amp/8641435002
  2. DENTON, TX – Trailing by 11 with just under nine minutes left in the second half, the University at Buffalo men's basketball team hit its final nine shots from the floor as the Bulls came back to defeat the defending C-USA champions North Texas, 69-66. The victory evens Buffalo's record to 1-1 on the season. Four Bulls scored in double figures in the win, including a Buffalo career best for senior Maceo Jack. Jack had five points early as the Bulls raced out to a 7-2 lead and UB would go on to lead by as many as eight before North Texas came back. The Mean Green led by as many as six points in the first half before taking a 36-32 lead into the break. The two teams found themselves tied at 42-42 with 16:13 left in the second half, but from there North Texas went on a 10-1 run to take a nine-point lead. A pair of free throws gave the Mean Green a 56-45 lead with 8:51 left, but then UB got the three ball going. Back-to-back threes from Jeenathan Williams and Josh Mballa quickly cut the deficit to just five. Trailing by six with just under five minutes left, the Bulls cut it to one as Ronaldo Segu drained a three, followed by a long two from Jack. Williams put the Bulls ahead for the first time since early in the first half with a three, giving UB the 64-63 lead with 3:12 left. Buffalo got its lead up to as many as five at 68-63 with 45 seconds left, but North Texas would cut that to three and the Mean Green had two looks from three, but couldn't convert as the final buzzer sounded. Jack tied for game-high honors with his 18 points, going 7-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-8 from three-point range. Mballa and Segu each added 17 points and Mballa had the double-double with 10 rebounds. Segu chipped in four assists. Williams had 14 points, six rebounds, and a career high six assists. 10 of his 14 points came in the second half. Sophomore David Skogman added three points. In the second half alone, the Bulls shot 53.8% from the floor, including 63.6% from three point range. With the season-opening two-game road trip in the books, the Bulls will have their regular season home opener on Saturday afternoon against Rider. Game time is set for 2pm. 4. Earlier this fall before the North Texas vs. UAB football game, Bruzzy’s UNT Golf Facility opened after nearly two years of planning and construction. North Texas president Neal J. Smatresk, Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker, members of the UNT System Board of Regents and the facility’s namesake and lead donor Jerome “Bruzzy” Westheimer were all present for the opening of the $3 million on-campus practice facility. Bruzzy’s is 5,047 square feet and features two hitting bays with the latest swing analysis and technology, a virtual putting green, locker rooms, a study space, coaches offices, and a lounge and kitchen area. 5. Edging closer – North Texas is creeping towards bowl eligibility with two games remaining in the regular season. The Mean Green were 1-6 before their three-game winning streak. That continued with a 20-17 win over UTEP. North Texas should reach five wins with FIU up next on the schedule. A season-ending clash with UTSA could be a game that determines the future of North Texas football. A win would put the team at 6-6 and on a five-game winning streak to close the year. A loss might result in the end of the Seth Littrell era. read more: https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2021/11/15/the-abcs-of-college-football-upsets-and-records-headline-week-11?ref=article_preview_img

The under is 7-2 in Bulls last 9 overall. The over is 3-1-1 in Mean Green last 5 Monday games. The Buffalo Bulls will have the best player on the floor in this game, and they hung around with Michigan in their opener, which should give them confidence. The jury is still out on the North Texas Mean Green, as they had a cupcake season opener and are still trying to figure out a consistent rotation. On the road or not, Buffalo should cruise with another dominating showing from Williams. read more: https://sportschatplace.com/college-basketball-picks/2021/11/14/north-texas-vs-buffalo-college-basketball-picks-odds-predictions-11-15-21/

  10. But Oct. 18 was the day. "That was kind of interesting because all the presidents of the 14 Conference USA schools were together in Dallas for their fall meetings," Stewart said. "They were together on Sunday the 17th and on Monday the 18th – in the room together – and then the night of the 18th it's learned that six are leaving, including North Texas, and their president (Dr. Neal J. Smatresk) was the chair of the Conference USA executive committee. That's what happens on Oct. 18, and that therefore sets off a chain reaction and that's where we are now." The six, which were announced as future members of the AAC in an Oct. 21 release, were UAB, FAU, Charlotte, North Texas, Rice and UTSA. The move sent C-USA from 14 member institutions to eight, and left those remaining wondering what would be left of the league. "It was just a little bit ironic, I think, for everybody to be in the room together on a Sunday and a Monday, and on Monday night it's learned that six are leaving. It was just tough timing," Stewart said. "Really what it does is it just causes everybody to kind of wonder who they can trust. That's not just in Conference USA – I think that's throughout the industry right now. I think there's real trust issues among a lot of people." read more: https://www.bgdailynews.com/sports/wku/carousel-of-madness-how-wku-ended-up-staying-in-c-usa-and-whats-ahead-for/article_b527e8be-60bf-5233-adcf-17e647f9d68e.html
  11. The powers that be in college football appear on the verge of a compromise that will move their playoff from four teams to 12 starting in 2024. The plan starts with six automatic bids. One for each of the so-called Power Five conferences — the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC — and one for the highest-ranked champion of the remaining five conferences, the so-called Group of Five. There would additionally be six at-large bids. The top four seeds would get first-round byes. Seeds 5-8 would host 9-12 on their respective campuses, with the winners advancing. The playoff would create more access, more excitement, more interest in more regular season games and, of course, a lot more money. Enter Mike Aresco, commissioner of the American Athletic Conference, who told the AP on Friday that he would “vigorously” oppose the expansion plan. It’s not because it wouldn’t improve potential access for his league. It would. It’s not because it wouldn’t generate more money for his schools. It would. No, Aresco is upset that it sets aside auto bids for the five major conferences, no matter how good their champions are. He calls it “privilege.” read more: https://sports.yahoo.com/whos-the-commissioner-of-the-aac-to-oppose-a-college-football-playoff-expansion-231736356.html
  12. TCU’s approach to finding its next football coach includes the equivalent of asking Elon Musk if he will give them $10 million in cash or bitcoin. The worst thing that will happen is Musk says no. Even better, if the conversation never includes a direct request for the money you can always deny it. That’s how TCU approached one of the most in-demand, exclusive, but still unavailable coaches: Chris Petersen. According to sources, TCU reached out to the former Boise State and Washington coach not to directly ask the question, but just to see where Petersen is with everything. TCU made Petersen tell them, “Thanks, but no thanks.” read more: https://amp.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article255732331.html

  14. UTEP Miners football have reached bowl eligibility thanks to leadership of head coach Dana Dimel, Director of Athletics Jim Senter and many others. EL PASO – No one involved was under any illusions. The charge of taking UTEP athletics, specifically the football team, to respectability was an uphill battle. Director of Athletics Jim Senter saw something most didn’t at UTEP: Potential. He took the job in the fall of 2017, in the middle of a football season that would end with an 0-12 record and a vacancy at head coach. Outsiders saw it as a dead end. El Paso is in a remote region of Texas. It is the only city in the state on Mountain Time. More people live across the border in Juarez than on the American side of El Paso. The previous coach, Sean Kugler, went 18-36 in his tenure from 2013-2017. Mike Price and Bob Stull were the only head coaches at UTEP to truly experience success. UTEP athletics needed everything. It needed more money. It needed new coaches. It needed confidence. Senter, a man who helped instill those traits at The Citadel before taking the UTEP job, had a plan. He also had optimism. read more: https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2021/11/11/the-rebuild-a-behind-the-scenes-look-at-the-resurgence-of-utep-football?ref=article_preview_img

  19. Early signing day is barely five weeks away (Wednesday, Dec. 15). There's your answer as to why nine schools have already changed coaches and two of those schools -- Texas Techwith Joey McGuire, Georgia Southernwith Clay Helton -- have already filled their openings. Recruiting is everything, particularly when judging which coach is going to lead your program in the future. Impatience has become the operative philosophy for athletic directors these days. Three of the nine coaches who lost their jobs did so before the completion of their third seasons. Who TCU should hire -- Sonny Dykes, SMU coach: This one is too easy. Dykes has seen the most sustained success of any SMU coach since the program suffered the death penalty in 1987. Sources told CBS Sports that Patterson was pushed out so the school could get in line ahead of Texas Tech for Dyke's services. Word is that Dykes preferred TCU to Tech, anyway. This hire will be interesting with Dykes coming from a bitter rival. Hey, but if he can win, who cares? read more: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/coaching-search-which-coaches-should-and-will-fill-open-jobs-at-lsu-usc-tcu-and-elsewhere/amp/
  20. DENTON, Texas – Head Coach Jalie Mitchell and the UNT women’s basketball staff inked four new players on National Signing Day. Three come from the state of Texas along with one from Arkansas. All four played the guard position at their respective high schools. This highly touted recruiting class comes off Mitchell’s best season yet with North Texas women’s basketball. Breanna Davis | 5-8 | Red Oak HS (Texas) - Averaged 22.5 PPG, 7 APG, 6.4 RPB in high school - Her father, Chris Davis is the second all-time leading scorer at UNT - Led Red Oak HS to the Class 5A Regional II Semifinals last year - Two-time Ellis County HS Sports Awards girls’ basketball Player of the Year - No. 30 in the state of Texas per Premier Basketball in the class of 2022 Red Oak HC Darren Eubanks on Davis… “Bre has been special from day one. She entered Red Oak as a freshman only to lead our team in scoring. This young lady came with a work ethic that is unmatched and a dedication to her craft that will allow her to have great success at the next level. Not only is she a great basketball player, but she is also an incredible kid, very humble and mature. She is always trying to make the right decision. North Texas you have signed a winner, and one of the all-time leading scorers in school history and I’m proud I was able to witness it.” UNT HC Jaile Mitchell on Davis… “There is a lot of UNT history with the Davis family. The best part is that we get to add to it! Bre will come to Denton with incredible maturity and leadership abilities, exceptional work ethic in the classroom, and a dedication to her craft that is unmatched. She lives in the gym and truly loves the game. It is extremely fulfilling for this story to come full circle. Bre had plenty of options to choose from to continue her basketball career. We are grateful that she saw her success within the vision of our school and program. The best is still yet to come!” Ereauna Hardaway | 5-6 | Jonesboro HS (Arkansas) - Averaged 14 PPG, 6 APG, and 3.5 RPG in high school - Class 5A state MVP Jonesboro HC Jodi Christenberry on Hardaway… “Ereauna is, arguably, the best point guard who has come out of Jonesboro, and one of the best that I have ever coached. Her ability to read situations, people and know when and how to get things done on the court is one of her best assets. She can get 25 points and four assists one night and turn around the next and get eight points and 12 assists. She doesn't care about her own stats. She will do whatever is necessary to win. She has put us on her shoulders numerous times throughout her career and led us to victory. I believe, at the next level, that she will quickly adjust to the increased speed and quickness of the game and will show why she is one of the best point guards in the class of 2022.” UNT HC Jaile Mitchell on Hardaway… “Ereauna, also known as “E”, is a complete gem! We are so glad we were able to get her out of Arkansas. She is an exceptional person, leader and point guard that everyone loves to play with. Our fans will enjoy all the different ways she’s able to score, facilitate and manage a game from start to finish. She also understands the importance of defense, bringing her A game to both ends of the floor. Ereauna is a selfless winner and recent state champion. We welcome her to the great state of Texas!” Jahcelyn Hartfield | 5-9 | South Grand Prairie (Texas) - No. 29 in the state of Texas per Premier Basketball in the class of 2022 - 5A TAPPS State Champion South Grand Prairie HC Brion Raven on Hartfield… “Jahcelyn has been an integral part of our program for three years. She has overcome so many obstacles and continues to do amazing things. On the court, she has been a versatile player that can lead us in scoring one game and lead us in assists the next game, all while being expected to guard the opponent’s best player. As much talent and skill as she brings on the court, she brings even more off the court – she is a strong young woman of faith, a leader, and brings intangibles that are hard to measure. She is the type of player and person that any program would love to have and I’m so proud that she will be continuing her education at the University of North Texas – you got a great one!” UNT HC Jaile Mitchell on Hartfield… “Jahcelyn is one of the toughest young women I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know. You can count on her to give her all mentally and physically every day. She has a unique story of triumph that gives her a competitive edge. She’s the do-it-all player that can take on any assignment you give her, from defense to rebounding and everything in between. We’re proud of Jahcelyn already and anticipate great things to come in her collegiate career!” Desiree Wooten | 5-9 | Mansfield Timberview (Texas) - No. 9 in the state of Texas per Premier Basketball in the class of 2022 - MVP of District 5-5A - MVP of the Region I-5A tournament - Top Dallas-Fort Worth guard Mansfield Timberview HC Kit Kyle-Martin on Wooten… “She is an exceptional talent who has the rare ability to elevate the players around her. She is one of the best to ever wear a Timberview jersey as a combo guard with innate abilities to score off the bounce and to see the floor. She can make the next level passes from anywhere. We are excited to watch her play for the Mean Green next season!” UNT HC Jaile Mitchell on Wooten… “Dez” is a 3-level scorer, competitor and high-level talent. She does a little bit of everything on the court, making her a tough guard for any defender. She takes the game very seriously and will always do whatever it takes to win. Her God-given gifts make her a threat to break just about every record we have. Desiree also has a fun-loving personality and brings great energy to any room. We are excited about her choice and future here at UNT!”
  21. Nearly every assistant coach in college football dreams of one day leading their own program. There are exceptions, but the never-ending chase for greatness on the field leads to the need for new challenges, and for many that is becoming a head coach. The coaching carousel is spinning already because of the quickly-approaching early signing period (Dec. 15-17), and agents and coaches across the country are pushing resumes across the desks of athletic directors seeking a new head coach. Texas Tech has already made a hire, grabbing Baylor assistant coach Joey McGuire this week, and four more Power Five jobs are still open. More jobs will open soon, meaning an endless line of dominoes will fall as head coaches are hired, staffs are shuffled and assistants file from one program to another. Fans will have big dreams of their school hiring a proven, big-time head coach to lead their program but, for many, they will instead be introduced to a hot play-caller or position coach as the leader of their program. Who are the prime candidates to watch in the near future? 247Sports sought feedback from FBS head coaches, assistants and staff administrators. Thirty-one of those coaches agreed to provide 247Sports the names of assistant coaches they believe should be considered for head-coaching jobs in the 2021 silly season. We’ll rank the 10 highest vote-getters, along with others who received votes. Coaches surveyed by 247Sports were not limited in their responses.
