  1. Think of all the class those kids are missing. Please, won't somebody think of the children?!
  2. It's what Talons should be...or it least it was in its early incarnation and hopefully will be again.
  3. Oh, I see. If that is in fact what he means then NO the Talons don't "do" those signs. The last game I went to myself and a friend of mine found them lying next to the railing and began putting them up ourselves every time we hit a 3.
  4. 3 whole signs you say? On such a shoestring budget no less. And did they happen to mention when they'll be showing up to the games?
  5. If you had to choose just one thing, which one thing could you really live without...
  6. Your stats are completely misleading and irrelevent. Let's actually look at the numbers. If you factor in that Tulsa and Nebraska are a combined 8-2 then it does look like we have picked on the weaker teams to get our wins since their combined records would be 9-16. But that's a bastardization of the numbers. We DID beat a 5-1 Tulsa team. All you've proven is that we are 1-1 against the stronger teams on our schedule thus far and 5-1 against the weaker ones. And one of those "weaker" teams is a 5-4 UTA team. Perhaps all you've proven is that we are doing about what we should be doing at this point in the season. Most, if not all, people judge a successful team as one that is competitive with their peers and those ranked more highly (see Tulsa and then Nebraska) and who rarely lose to those ranked below them (see the rest of the schedule). I may be down on this team come conference just like the rest of you guys. But, for now, let's not search desperately for a reason why they're underachieving. No matter how much we would like for it to be so.
  7. This place isn't as good as Fouts. (Yes, you read that correctly) http://usdtoreros.cstv.com/facilities/torero-stadium.html
  8. I want this guy. At North Texas, at this point in our ascension up the ladder in 1A, what we need is a guy who has passion. Passion for his players. Passion for his school. Above all passion to win. I guarantee you that going into the weight room WITH your coach will cause you to play until you can't play anymore...especially when compared with the alternative of being told that nobody loves you and it's you against the world.
  9. It's not only fair, it's vital. At North Texas there have been so many years of a lack of outreach to the general public and student body that I can't blame them for not feeling a part of the program. I really think that this sense of "ownership" is why some schools can sell out or come near it even during the lean years.
  10. Well of course we're accusing him of cronyism! I heard she one uttered the words "Southern Miss". Oh, the humanity.
  11. Anyone take a look at the list of possible hires at Miami? Bob Stoops? Rich Rodriguez? Mike Leach? Would these coaches leave their current stints to go to Miami?
  12. And ask her too what she thought of TCU's application for admission increasing greatly after they started winning football games about 7 or so years back.
  13. Guess I'll have to be a fan of Trojans for at least one night in December.
  14. Yes but board rules dictate that you must bitch about something at least twice to get your point across. (See multiple posts entitled things like "Is RV hiring for us or for him?" or "I don't want a crony hire" or "My vagisil ran out" etc)
  15. I am perpetually amused by everyone who wants to start a jihad against RV just because some random name gets mentioned as being contacted by NT and that same random person happens to have worked with or near RV in the past. People, it's just a contact...not a job offer. If making contact were all it took to become unequivocally bound to someone then I'd call every hot girl I know. It's a phone call or an email at best, more than likely just a chance to get an old friend's name in the paper. Look, I know that some of you can't get through the day without nitpicking something, claiming to have insider information, or predicting a hurricane (or a combination of the three) but let's chill out a bit. Back away from the keyboard. Grab a cold beer. Grab a hot girl/guy (I make no assumptions as to preference). Grab a warm pizza. Just leave RV alone for a few days.
  16. Yes This is my alma mater. If I don't stand behind it I have no right to ask others to do so.
  17. 1)How will he recruit? He hasn't had to recruit AT ALL while in the high school ranks, but not just because it's against UIL rules. He hasn't had to recruit because these kids' daddies get jobs at DFW or close to Southlake and send their kids to Carroll. The area and school recruit for him. At NT there is no such built in advantage. Anyone know of a "come work at Peterbilt and bring your kid with 4.3 speed" program? 2)What do we do when the media attention dies down? If we're not winnin, we're not winning. I know everybody says we'll sell all these tickets and butt so many butts in seats but come on guys, we all know the North Texas fan base. We'll probably have a really great crowd for the home opener because people want to see the new circus in town. What about after that though? We all know that attendance can take a nose dive if we aren't winning. Season tickets are what, $75? That's not enough of an investment to prevent people from staying home if the product still isn't good. I know that winning isn't guaranteed with any coach but it seems that some on this board assume there is a magic elixir named Todd Dodge. 3)How much longer will the spread be a can't miss strategy? Seriously. The wishbone was a juggernaut...for a while. The Wing-T was great...for a while. Westcoast? Check. Run and shoot? Yep. I want to know, how good can Todd Dodge coach football. Not how well can Todd Dodge coach his style of football, how well can Todd Dodge coach football. I don't know that he can't but I think we all remember what a one-trick pony will get you offensively. 4)How many of the players that Dodge would bring in here have been running his offense since the 7th grade? The players at Carroll have. There will be a learning curve plain and simple, how steep will it be? I'm not saying Todd Dodge wouldn't be the best option, he may well be. I just don't want us to fall in love with the head cheerleader and then find out she's horrible in bed.
  18. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The beauty of your posts is that they require no credible evidence whatsoever. I can only imagine the freedom you must feel knowing that you are the official warrantless panic button masher.
  19. And somehow talking to those he's familiar with and losing sight of where his "professional loyalties are" are mutually exclusive?
  20. I just don't get how it's hard to understand that when you start a hiring search, any hiring search, you start with the people you know because they're easiest to approach and talk to and THEN branch out to the unknowns. By RV simply talking to Nix some of you are willing to crucify the both of them.
  21. Could it be that maybe he's covering the bases he knows best before venturing out into the unkown ones? Sounds logical to me.
  22. Why is that anyone, regardless of their coaching pedigree, is undesirable if they've ever stepped foot on the Southern Miss campus or if RV ever knew them in the past? I've seen so many people say they don't want RV to hire a "good ol' boy" but I can't help but wonder why this is valid. Wouldn't familiarity with the guy he's bringing in to lead his flagship program be a plus? I know that if I owned a business I'd hire they guy I know over anyone else, all things being equal. And how do we know, for sure, that RV isn't choosing amongst relative equals when it comes to coaching with one or more of them having the added bonus of being familiar?
  23. Part of the problem, as I saw first hand against Tulsa, is that we don't push the tempo against the press. I saw Bell and Sturns pick up their dribble when they saw the press well short of the half-court line, which led to at least one turnover for taking too much time.
