  1. I agree. We have always complained that Dickey was sarcastic and caustic in his comments about/within the program. We shouldn't show ourselves to be no better.
  2. I won't assume this to be true. But if it is true we couldn't have made a better decision.
  3. "I was told he was to donate more in the future." You're officially a troll. This is your sage wisdom you're using to bash the rest of the posters on this board? You were "told" he was gonna give more money? Tell me Nostradomus when exactly was this money coming and who is your inside source? Was he going to give money when a new stadium could have taken us out of the dark ages? That would have been ten years ago. Was he going to give money when we were riding a wave of momentum and could have taken things higher? That would have been before his "buddy" went 2-9 and was on his way to 2-10. Or, at the very least, it would have been after the 2-9 season to try to kick start things. Or, was he maybe going to hold his money until he was sure Dickey would be back for another year? That's brilliant, hold your alma mater hostage over money that tcooper was "told" would be forthcoming. You wanna talk nickel and dime donations? How about the fact that this is ALL you could hope for if Dickey had stayed? What corporation wants to attach their name to a program that is floundering and shows no vision to correct things? I'm waiting tcooper.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Yeah, that's what I thought. Run along and go play now.
  4. I humbly disagree. None of us will have a hand in the next hire, we're all in a hold pattern, and yes a few potshots here and there keep this little train movin.
  5. I know we're having fun with the coaching staff discussions and deciding whether Southern Miss is the most fertile recruiting ground for coaches in America but I wanna talk BCS. Who goes to the title game? Surely the winner of Mich/OSU will be there but who else? A look at the candidates: Florida 8-1 Wins over Tennessee and Georgia, their 1 loss is to Auburn and they still have Florida State and South Carolina to play. Currently BCS #4. Texas 9-1 Currently BCS #5, their 1 loss is to BCS #1 Ohio State, but who have they played? They have wins over #17 Oklahoma and #24 aTm but those rankings will fall as the season progresses. Then, they'll play a weak Big 12 North winner. Will they have the pull in the computer polls? Auburn 9-1 BCS #6, 1 loss is to another 1 loss team in Arkansas, wins over Florida and LSU, still have Georgia to play. With a SEC title game win would that catapult them? USC 7-1 BCS #7, blowout wins over Arkansas and Nebraska, their 1 loss is to Oregon State, may have the toughest road remaining of all of the 1 loss teams with games against Oregon, Cal, UCLA and Notre Dame. Cal 7-1 BCS #8, started the season with a loss to Tennessee, remaining game against USC, will the "weak" Pac-10 hurt them? Notre Dame 8-1 BCS #9, their 1 loss is to BCS #2 Michigan, win over #19 Georgia Tech, remaining game against USC. Are they too far down in the polls to make up the ground? Arkansas 8-1 BCS #11, their 1 loss is to USC, they have a win over Auburn and games remaining against lSU and Tennessee plus the SEC title game. Others of interest: West Virginia- Loss to Louisville but a chance to beat "cinderella" Rutgers. Rutgers- Will this be the year that the BCS locks out an undefeated BCS league team and puts a 1 loss team in the title game over them? Few are giving the Rutgers schedule much weight because they doubt the toughness of the Big East. Here's something to think about though. Louisville, the team Rutgers just beat, has offered to play 10 of the 12 SEC teams over the last five years...all of them have declined. I wonder why.... Loser of the Mich/OSU game- Their resume would include only a loss to the BCS #1 and wins over the rest of the Big Ten. Plus, Michigan would have the Notre Dame win and Ohio State would have the win over Texas. A rematch of a regular season game in the national title game?
  6. I'm with you Rick on wanting offense. Can Dykes go out and recruit the horses to run his offense? I don't think there is currently a quarterback on our roster who is suited to run the spread or even a west coast offense. Receivers? Offensive linemen?
  7. So let me get this straight. He complains that Dickey couldn't win because he didn't have the resources....then he says he won't give to the athletic department? Way to talk out of both sides of your mouth there Mack.
  8. Actually I in no way said I discouraged people from coming out for WHATEVER reason. I just wondered if there might be an undertone if you will to some of the players.
  9. I know there are a lot of you who say you will now attend the FAU game because of Dickey's firing. I respect that and am glad we will have an increased crowd. I wonder though, what that says to the players. If you're out there on that field and you look up in the stands knowing that the increased attendance is due to your coach's firing do you also think to yourself "why couldn't these people just come to see me play? I bust my ass every Saturday for these folks and that's not enough to get them into the stadium? They need a special occasion." Not saying that anyone is wrong to stay away when the product is bad and the forecast looks bleak...just that it may send a different message than intended.
  10. You should try being married to a woman who wants every year (no joke) a subscription to US Weekly. Ahhhh, true romance.
  11. Not true. Actually there is a prenup in place that says he gets $300,000 for every year they were married...2. So that's $600,000 and about half of their house which will bring him about another $9,000,000. That's a lot of money but I believe chump change compared to what she's worth and what she will probably make when she gets back into the pop game.
  12. The logical, pragmatic side of me says that you are and adult and entitled to make this decision with regard to your own money and time. The flame-baiting, dogpiling side of me says you're a "quitter", "not a realy fan" and should come to the games regardless of incompetent coaching because your kids can play in the fun zone and you too might have "fun" watching us get embarrassed.
  13. Anyone will even a sliver of football knowledge will take one look at what ol' 'asleep at the wheel' Flanigan has "produced" and know that it most certainly WAS football related.
  14. I've seen the way WE'RE playing lately and I too would assume nothing.
  15. How about this: Leave TexAs WiTh Our HEad Coach For Heaven's Sake Of course, you'd have to make it line up.
  16. Bump. Is this it? Nobody else makin it out for tailgatin?
  17. Plan to be there by 10am for a full day of tailgating. If it rains I'll just stay under the tents. I may be totally out on the coaching staff but this is still MY alma mater and I still revolve my weekends around them.
  18. I never said it was a fluke, just that that's how it is and will be viewed by the general public. I know we have good players, and I know they're capable...if led correctly. It was clear that our coaching staff did their homework for the SMU game because they took it seriously. If it were the same week in and week out there would be no "flukes" because we'd be properly prepared and win. With that said though it really is irrelevant how we view the win. If people outside of the Mean Green nation, namely recruits, look at a bowl eligible (or at the very least really close) team that plays in CUSA versus a 2 or 3 win team in the Sunbelt they will come tot he conclusion that our win wasn't legit. We can scream until we're blue in the face about how we are the better team but where do we point for long term proof this year?
  19. 1)There were about 5 people there. I'll give all 5 of them credit for being in costume though. 2)It can no longer be said that Darrell Dickey is the worst coach in America. The worst coach in America is whoever is coaching against SMU that week...though they get instantly better after that game. This year I've watched Ark St, Marshall AND UAB hand games to SMU on a platter. How many false start penalties in key situations? Not getting to the line and snapping in on a key 1st down catch that was in question? Ladies and gentelmen, this was a game UAB could have and should have won. 3)Craig James shouldn't be allowed within 100 miles of a broadcast booth when SMU is playing. I understand you want to say a nice thing or two about your alma mater (especially when they were your most lucrative employer ever) but the homerism was pathetic. How many times do I have to listen to them talk about how great the damn pony express was within tempering it with the fact that it was the best paid backfield in the country, college or pro. 4)Our win against them now means NOTHING. Let's look at what is soon to happen. They will find a way to win against Rice, Tulsa or Houston. They only need one of 'em. Then, they'll go to N.O. where we would be if we could get out of our own way. They'll more than likely beat whomever we send there. If you've never rooted for another Sun Belt team with all your heart and soul you'd damn sure better come December in N.O. After they win that game our win over them will be known not as the "biggest win of the decade" or "proof that we can compete in the metroplex" but instead as what people are almost unanimously calling it already...FLUKE. You ready for the recruiting season after they're a 7 to 8 win team and a bowl champion and we're a 2-10 or 3-9 team? Can you say uphill battle at a ninety degree angle? Look at the local and state recruiting lists...they're already putting together a decent class. And then, when you think you can't feel any lower, the coup de grace. We'll march into Ford stadium next season with a chance to prove, on the field now instead of in the media and the minds of the masses, that SMU really has passed us up. All in favor of keeping the current coaching staff, going to games just to have "fun", and saying we should all be satisfied...raise your hands.
  20. Wow! I'm beginning to think a logical, critical discussion of any topic is impossible on this board. How, pray tell, do you defend the constant bastardization of a post by those who have only straw man arguments to offer. The day that fans who have been here through thick and thin have to defend saying "enough is enough" because they can no longer stand to see their school embarass itself is the day that "fandom" is pointless. Some of you talk of how you only come to games for the "fun". Well, then the current state of the program is one that you can have and call all your own because I, and others like me, are not here to simply have fun. I live and breathe this program and take it deadly serious...which means I will be damned if I sit by and watch it sink into mediocrity while pacified by how jolly it makes me to be in a football stadium! And as to the idea that anyone would become a Texas fan because the "product is better", can you even make this argument with a straight face and lacking a realization that you've totally missed the boat on the entire analogy? The point, for the reading comprehension impaired, is not that we would like to see a more "winning" product, it's that we would like to see a product that is not tainted by design and sold to the general public with an air of contempt. This is what makes for true fans...not the unconditional support for whatever they throw out there, but unconditional insistence on making them throw a worthy product out there.
  21. Yep. This "if you don't buy tickets and attend you are hurting the players" argument is lame. Lack of ticket sales doesn't hurt the players, it can only hurt the athletic department...that's who the message has to come across to.
  22. Brilliant retort. Aside from casting aside the point of what I was saying, and instead choosing to concentrate on an analogy, you were spot on in your analysis. Oh, and also discounting the fact that I came right out and said "I know NT is not a corporation" you pretty much, in a roundabout way, not really, replied to the original post. And as to the idea of "investors" we will have few if any under the current state of things.
  23. Can you imagine what it would be like if every business had the fan 'loyalty' that some on this board expect? McDonald's starts serving uncooked burgers and publicly bashing their customers and the proper response would be? Oh yes, continue to buy extra value meals and NEVER threaten to be "done" going to McDonald's because that would only show you to be a quitter. Hilton Hotels leaves dirty sheets on all of the beds? Hey, just think of all the clean comfy rooms that Hilton provided several years ago. Can't read this post because your internet provider keeps screwing up your connection? Don't you dare do anything to voice displeasure because that would only make the employees of these companies sad. Look, I know that NT is not a corporation but the same principles apply. NT athletics asks us every year to pony up our time, our money and our passion. Yes, we are all alumni or have close ties to the school. But how do we serve our university by continuing to put our full efforts into a losing program? Anyone ever heard of a thing called 'tacit consent?' Wanna knock me, or others, for saying we're 'done'? Then get a little perspective before you cast aspersions. What does it take to make someone who lives and breathes NT, who has defended this team to everyone from apathetic NT students to the bandwagon jumping lemings statewide walk away? How do you turn someone off to NT football when their entire social calendar for the year revolves around it? Oh yeah, you run a boring, abrasive to potential fans, floundering program. Show in your speech in actions that you couldn't care less about selling this team because the 'us against them' mentality is your only motivational tactic. And if you want to knock people like me who say we're bowing out (though admittedly I probably couldn't keep myself away if I tried) make sure you take into account the THOUSANDS of fans who won't be lining up to replace us because the product is so badly mismanaged and sold. Grow accustomed to 17,000 being a generous estimate for attendance for the next decade and beyond because there is not a salesman in the world who could entice people who don't have a vested interest in this program to jump on board. And as to this notion that it is our job as fans to just show up, support the team, and keep our mouths shut...are you f'ing kidding?! What message is sent to RV, the coaching staff and the general public? North Texas wins...fans are happy. North Texas loses (in embarrasing fashion)...fans put on a happy face. To the casual observer you would like for there to be no difference in demeanor or speech between a happy fanbase and a disillusioned one? Brilliant! I just can't wait to check into a Hilton hotel...maybe when I go to the N.O. Bowl to wach someone other than NT.
