  1. Nope, we won FIVE. I don't think that holding on to a two touchdown lead is an absurdly high expectation.
  2. This is the worst part... this hurt just like a Dickey loss (to me). How we lost and who we lost to (now FAU is 2-0 in conference and if we do manage to get on a run in conference... they'll have to lose at least twice for us to pass them) was very demoralizing. The fact that we're almost certainly looking at an 0-4 start... it makes me sad. I don't think anyone here is abandoning the team... All I've read is people expecting other, less passionate fans to be more skeptical about coming back. I can't make it to Arkansas, but I'll be listening (watching, if at all possible) and I still love this team. But man, do I ever agree that this was a very painful loss.
  3. I can't really argue with much here. Meager struggled. He made some mistakes at critical times. But the past two games, what I've seen makes me believe that Meager falls into the second category of QBs you identified above. He can manage and play within a system. Coming into the season, I didn't believe that Meager could even be an adequate QB. I was wrong. The 0-3 record absolutely kills me. This should be a 2-1 team. We don't need another Scott Hall, and we don't need the old DeLoach defenses. If we only had the adequate, bend-but-don't-break defense of Fred Bleil, we'd be 2-1. That's all we need. Put a mediocre defense on the field, and we're sitting at 2-1. I've never hesitated to say so when I felt Daniel Meager was costing us games. Right now, I don't see it that way. He isn't winning them single-handedly, and he probably never will. Don't call me a Meager apologist (Dickey apologist is still ringing loudly in my ears), but I still think he's enough for us to win. Of course, I still have fond memories of Matt Phillips from the Green Team and his amazing comebacks in 2005. So that goes to show you what I know about evaluating Quarterbacks.
  4. Rick, you know I like and respect you, but I strongly disagree about what you perceived as vast defensive improvements. First half, dropped passes by wide open FAU receivers is what stopped the FAU offense. Second half, they stopped shooting themselves in the foot and moved pretty much at will. And while the yardage may look better than usual... we did allow two blocked punts that gave some excellent field position. Throw in the midfield interception, and there wasn't that much yardage available to be gained. I know that the shorter field doesn't make it easy on the defense... but it doesn't seem like it matters much how easy or hard it is, whether it's 8 yards or 80 yards... When the opposing offense doesn't stop itself, the defense rarely stops it, either. I'm still very, very disappointed and concerned about what my uneducated eyes are seeing on the defensive side of the ball. I know that the players we have are better than the results we're seeing.
  5. No, Daniel Meager does not have the "It" necessary to win games. IT- (ĭt) - Pronoun. 1) A viable defensive plan, well executed, and designed to stop the opposing team from scoring at will 2) A defensive coordinator who can hold a two touchdown lead, even if just 50% of the time But it isn't Meager's responsibility (or even within his ability) to get the "It" that this team is missing.
  6. I agree about the Defense. The defensive MVPs for this game are all the FAU receivers that dropped easy passes. The 7 yard cushion is still in full effect. Still struggling with tackling, though not as badly as before. Couldn't make stops when it mattered (thinking of a 3rd and 12 and another long 3rd down where we gave up 10 yards or so and set them up for one of several 4th down conversions). Line looked pretty stout and got a little pressure on the QB. Not much, but then again, there was no additional pass rush besides our 4 down linemen. This is a talented defense that looks like crap. We went from sometimes mediocre and sometimes pretty darn good (despite being on the field almost constantly due to 3-and-outs) last year to outright terrible this year. Almost every single player is back. The coordinator, however, is not. Last year we had a good defense that struggled to hold the line or stop the run up the middle, which may have been a function of playing 3-4. This year, we look like crap and can't stop anyone. Why? Why does our defense suck THIS year when we didn't suck LAST year? Now, everyone has one more year of experience and they aren't being hung out to dry by a weak offense. What is the problem?
  7. We must not have been watching the same game. This was the best game of the year by far only in that the Defense was going the wrong direction in 3rd gear rather than 5th gear. Being less awful than the first two games does not merit kudos.
  8. Sigh... Once again, Daniel Meager has fragmented our fan base and made us turn on each other. Give us another good week, Daniel. Heal the wounds. Unite us.
  9. People, people... PLEASE. Let's focus on what's really important here: I got quoted and nobody bothered to tell me. Shouldn't I be getting a residual check in the mail? Royalties or something? And as for Tank Johnson... I expect to have a lot of fun at his expense. If only there were some outlaw corner of the internet where I could make smartass remarks and inappropriate jokes about Dallas sports...
  10. Why do we want him? Did he play receiver in a rich white Metroplex suburb and I'm not aware of it? He's a running back, right? We have no need for the likes of him.
  11. Happy Birthday! I'm a Jehovah's Witness, so I didn't get you anything. But I see that you've already got a pile of Gold(en Girls) for your birthday, and that truly makes you the man who has everything. No wonder he's not online... Cerebus once confided to me over a midnight cheesecake that it was his lifelong dream to make love to a giant heap of elderly women that was part sassy, part refreshingly naive, and part slutty southern belle. Oh, and one of them was vaguely mannish and spoke in a baritone. And now that dream has come true! I love Mean Green Sports, but if I were him... I'd never come back. At least, not until 2 or 3 months from now when they all pass away of old age. I can imagine the stories he'll tell us when he gets back... "Picture it: Sicily, 1934- Their skin was like silly putty and their bones were brittle like chalk. And I taught them that you can't talk about Saint Olaf when you've got a mouthful of... cheesecake." Thank you for being a friend, Cerebus. And for all that you do here at GMG.com.
  12. My only predictions are 1) that Rick Villarreal will not hug Howard Schnellenberger on the field after the game. And 2) that I will be there. I hope we win. I hope we look better on defense. I hope this is the start of another amazing streak. I hope security doesn't refuse to let me in the stadium.
  13. You ALWAYS win. That's the best part of the game!
  14. Poor Phil Bennett... his fans and his team are turning against him. I bet he could use a hug. Won't someone give him a hug?
  15. In a situation like this, you can't really pick a side. So this time, I root for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. I know there's a stringent policy here now, but I think that for this game, everyone in GMG.com nation should cheer for 'Cocc. (NOTE: I realize a guy died, and I am very sorry for him and his family. But how often can I make reference to 'Cocc in the locker room? Cut me some slack. Thoughts and prayers as hard as I can, I promise.)
  16. Me? What am I needed for? Inappropriate humor? Greek indignation? I'm a little busy this week with work and a trip to a friend's wedding this weekend. First time I've checked the board in 2 days. Next time, use the GreekSignal. It's the giant spotlight atop Fouts Field that fills the sky with a Gyro shaped outline.
  17. He may not be able to catch, but he sure can tackle. We could use the help on defense.
  18. You know who's handsome? Rick Villarreal. Discuss.
  19. Same here. Anyone needing one more in the student section, PM me ASAP. You've got 15 minutes before we leave.
  20. Now I kind of want to touch you on Saturday, too. Group hug? Seriously... good post. Didn't realize this had happened. Posts like this (and of course all the juvenile humor) are what make me love GMG.com.
  21. I hate that they called it "Unnecessary Roughness". C'mon, people... that's even worse than the NTSU slip-ups. Do your homework.
  22. Very nice. Seriously on him, though... Damn Strahan. I really thought AA might get a chance to shine this year.
  23. It appears that 125 and 225 are season ticket holder allotments non-student tickets, and 126 is for the $10 student tickets. They were probably distributed from 2 different piles.
