  1. I'm with Rick on this one. I think that MTSU (as far as I've seen) is far and away the best team in the Sunbelt this year. I think they win out as well. If we can't make it back to the bowl this year, they are the team that I would want to represent the Sunbelt because I feel like they have the best chance to beat the CUSA representative. ULM has a pretty good team this year...but I just don't see them in New Orle....oops Lafayette .
  2. As a somewhat young Kappa Sig alum, I can assure everyone on here that there is a huge group of us that go to every game (yes...even inside the game). The quote is unfortunate because it paints the typical image of the Greek system that those at the NT Daily love to portrait. There are some young guys who would just rather sit outside the game (I don't agree with this) but as Adler stated...Just having people out for our tailgate makes it an experience that is not to be missed and helps to draw our new fans that have never been to a game before back. I assure you that a large number of the members of the chapter do go inside the games as well. Plus I don't understand the bitching because compared to our home attendance over the past few years, this year has been great for us. Now if we can just win some more games
  3. What started as a good thread turned into one of the stupidest things I've ever read on this board. If anyone thinks that NT is not much better off since RV has arrived, then they are delirious. We are lucky to have him...and fortunate that a program that can afford to pay more hasn't stolen him from us yet.
  4. Leaving work at around 2:30. Bringing about 5 people w/me. I think that 2 are first timers.
  5. We need to be focusing on getting a rivalry with a D-1 school period. TSU will not cut it (they may make a move to 1-A in a few years...and I don't have any hard feelings towards TSU in general...but Come on!) Several on this board have offered many competent suggestions such as SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, Houston, UTEP...and I would be happy with establishing an extended series with any of these teams. Another team I would throw into the mix would be New Mexico State...as they are the closest that we have had to a real rivalry over the past few years. Good close games with passionate fans on either side...if we were somehow able to attach a meaning to this game, they could be another potential candidate for an extended series. I agree with an above post that stated...NT-TSU rivalry series = Worst. Idea. Ever.
  6. I had a blast at the tailgate as did the group of people that I brought with me. They were mostly people who don't come to games often or were first timers. They all commented about how great our gameday atmosphere is and how they wanted to come out to more games (this was after we had been destroyed by Tulsa)...so thats encouraging at least. The Gameday experience is so night and day from when I first came to school in 98'...I truly believe that this part of the experience sticks in new fans minds (almost as much as quality wins).
  7. Yeah...it seems like it's real hard for Bosie St. to land recruits. If you've got a solid program, kids will come there to play regardless of the location. And why does it seem like the media acts like Denton is out in the middle of nowhere?
  8. I'll take what they showed on Sat. over anything else we've run out there over the past few years. It's certainly not worse/more conviluted than that butt ugly UNT star that we trotted out there for years.
  9. The meeting happened at the Gateway last night. Rick was not at the game because he gave a presentation last night.
  10. I was just hoping to see more of the both of them on the field at the same time. I only remember seeing that on 1 or 2 plays. Do we have plays that are designed to utilize both of the RB's at the same time? I would assume that we do...but I was thinking that the coaching staff may have not utilized all of the offensive playbook against MTSU because it was Meagar's first game and they didn't wan't to overwhelm him. Anyone know it that was the case?
  11. NT- 27 MT- 20 Jamario and Cobbs are ultimately too much for the Blue Raiders d to handle.
  12. Lots of talk around campus about moving Homecoming into November in order to accomodate the LSU game this year. Don't know if this will be actually happening or not...but thats the talk right now.
  13. Haven't we read this same article the previous three years? Seriously though...if a Sunbelt team is gonna rise up and knock us off our perch, this year would be the most likely opportunity to do so. I don't see us having nearly as many questions about our next years team as we did this off season.
  14. I for one can't wait to go see a game at "Death Valley" this year. I appreciate the LSU guys posting about the experiences during the pre game/game. I know that there are horror stories about LSU, but I can't wait to see a game there (only other SEC school I've seen a game at is Arkansas). As far as the LSU guys posting...You guys are right in your assesment that NT does have a very loyal (albeit tiny in comparison) fanbase. Thats why you will read many posts from NT fans that are "up in arms" when somebody says that we don't play "real" college football. We are all very dedicated to making our alma mater succede, and most people who are fans of the major BCS conferences can not comprehend what it is like to be a fan of a school that does not have a legitimate shot at even playing in a BCS bowl. Walking into a place like "Death Valley" while wearing your MEAN GREEN colors proudly is about as "real" a college football fan as you can get. Walking into a hostile/huge crowd and knowing you have very little chance of pulling off an upset and still being there to support is imo what it's all about. I've done it at UT, OU, CU, and AR, and I'm preparing to do it at LSU and KSU this year as well. I don't expect LSU fans to be able to relate to this post , but just wanted to add some perspective as to why NT fans react the way we do when we are told that we're not "real" college football fans.
  15. Hopefully Moore's absence will only be temporary. I was really enjoying him in his kick returning role last year. There is no doubt that when he gets going, he truly has a second gear. Best of luck to him.
  16. Yeah...watching that play was painful.
  17. Thanks for posting this. The first hat is cool...I'm definately picking that one up. I really dislike the second one though.
  18. Had not seen this mentioned yet. Two days ago I saw a commercial for North Texas football for the 2005 season. It featured Jamario and Patrick running throught defenses and showed them on several touchdowns from the past couple of years. The commercial also featured the new NT colors and logos and played "Thunderstruck" at the end of the commerical. It was cool to see this commercial out there. BTW, the commercial ran about 5:30-6:00 in the evening on ESPN 2. I live in Lewisville and have my cable service with Comcast...I was just wondering if this commerical is running locally in Denton and other metroplex locations as well.
  19. I was at Grapevine Mills mall this weekend and was surprised to see some NT gear (other than the Joe Green throwback hat) at the store. There was not a lot of NT merchandise, but there were a couple of t-shirts available. None of the stuff they stocked had the new logos incorporated but they were very affordable. They were pretty generic shirts, but I thought some people on the board might be interested in these items because I know many people had e-mailed their headquarters to get them to stock NT gear. BTW...I could not find any of the item online at Steve and Barrys.com
  20. I will be staying at the Horseshoe (my favorite hotel/casino in Shreveport) on the Friday night before gameday. I'll be traveling with 7-8 friends and we have not decided where we are gonna stay on the Saturday night yet.
  21. Gotta agree here. The Belt has been very good to us in it's short existence (meaning in football). I know that there are many perception problems with the Sunbelt, but all of our league teams are making strides every year. If NT and Troy continue to play at a high level and we can get another two teams ie. MTSU, ULL, ULM, and FAU to step up their game, we would have a nice competitive regional conference. If a scenario like this was to take place our league would be very much on par with the WAC, MAC, and new CUSA perception wise (with 3-4 nationally recognized programs at the top of the conference). Biggest key this year is to win our OCC games (Tulsa & La Tech especially) and hope that our conference mates can do the same in their OCC schedules.
  22. Noble Willingham! Anyone on the board seen the Corn Dog Man
