  1. Mac at least. An interim HC needs to step in, and that's between Cosh and Canales. Considering that Canales is a little more creative at offense and did pretty well in his short stint at interim, I'd choose him over Cosh. In the meantime, I'm the BOR and Smatresk and I'm working to get another AD immediately and another HC immediately. Maybe tossing Mac out will get the players to rally under the interim and at least put points on the board, if not win. I'm almost certain that keeping Mac after this will be disastrous and we'll feel that for years.
  2. So I guess the question is begged: what now? Does the BOR and the President wait out another half-season of likely 70-0 beatdowns and probably lose an entire program's worth of players or do they cut Mac, get someone at interim and then hope the players rally?
  3. Hope Mac and RV have their bags packed. I gotta wonder - how do you go from the 2014 bowl season to 0-5 by blowouts? Probably something to do with running your friend's son at QB and not recruiting or developing around him and then expecting the defense and special teams to somehow move the ball when their role in the game isn't exactly about moving the ball. Damn Mac, you owe a lot of explanations to players, their families, and the fans.
  4. Basic scientific/statistical study method here, right? People calling judgement on Smith, but he's barely got a sample, much less a large enough sample to study with. If Smith can show he's more serious by, I guess, improvising less during practice, maybe he'll see more snaps, and maybe get more PT. Meanwhile, the coaches need to realize that McNulty is gone at the end of the year and unless they truly believe they can pull a bowl season, it's time to bench McNulty and develop Smith and/or Means and maybe even work with Tillman to see if he wants to get behind center. I think we can live with another bad season if 2016 and forward go well because all the right talent had this season to develop. We'll also be pretty mad if 2015 is a bust and 2016 is the same because the right players didn't get enough playing time.
  5. And that positive TD:INT ratio, in the hands of a freshman QB so we can be upside down on TD:INT in the hands of a redshirt senior, too.
  6. Get the Georgia Southern AD and a winning, championship-winning FCS coach. I think that's the ticket - one is able to work with far less than what we have now, and another is going to be very adept at finding and developing talent. That's what we need.
  7. I feel like if Smith got more time in practice, he would have a better rhythm with his receivers. But then again, we wouldn't have this issue with McNulty if the coaches would have put in other, younger QBs when we were in garbage time (winning or losing) and if they were better able to evaluate and develop quarterbacks. All we saw at the Iowa game was a symptom of a greater illness. TLDR; saying Smith isn't ready now and playing McNulty, who will never be ready and will have graduated if he ever is, is bad coaching.
  8. Looks like "well, we're gonna go for the guaranteed loss over the potential for the win, or at least, long term development of a physically talented QB" to me.
  9. His head coach record is nothing to be impressed by: 27-47, but he was also coaching at FIU, which would be hard to coach for even if Nick Saban up and worked there. I think his time at Miami and Alabama are worth a look. I still think there's someone better. I'd almost rather find someone successful - no, championship caliber from the FCS level and bring them here.
  10. That's messed up right there. They should be looking for everyone to succeed - they're a team. But that example has to be set by the coaches and the seniors. For us fans, we want to see the program succeed. We'd love to see Mac succeed, too. But right now, he doesn't seem like he's up to the task and that's costing the players more than it costs Mac.
  11. And this isn't the Dickey era, where he could legitimately complain about the fans, the alumni and the facilities. The fans are there - but they want to see a good product before they buy in. The students are amped about UNT more than ever. The facilities are easily there. McCarney and his staff just didn't seem to capitalize on it as much as needed. We've got good recruits at some positions, but the key positions haven't panned out. Either because they weren't really that great or because they weren't properly developed.
  12. Well, when a coach chooses two inferior, yet older players ahead of more skilled players and gives them the practice reps... I love this university with all my heart - but if the kid's priority is football over academics, I'd tell him to go someplace else until a change in the coaching staff happens.
  13. Lemme add - can't recruit or can't develop. Looking back on previous seasons, those were clues that the coaching staff was having trouble developing quarterbacks. This season, it's readily obvious that is the case. If it's not a matter of giving practice reps to a more talented quarterback, it was definitely about McNulty not being prepared to take the reins this season and last season.
  14. Right. I feel like the players - even McNulty and Greer, they're trying hard and doing the work. I just feel like the coaches aren't, or are paying for previous errors right now.
  15. He's got the best recruiting situation UNT has had in its history. The university is at its peak for academic performance and campus life. The city UNT is in is incredibly popular. The athletic facilities are the best they've ever been with great staff to support it. The coaches are paid far better than predecessors. I can't seen any excuse here, either.
  16. McNulty doesn't seem to be made of the right stuff to win. This is his last season. Smith still has eligibility and shows the the physical talent needed to win. Sticking with McNulty means another line of games with the same kind of not-horrible to horrible performance, losing a year of Smith's eligibility and development. We're also losing opportunities for Smith to create chances to win games. We take Smith into more plays and that means he can get settled at QB in an FBS environment and maybe help win games. And that's if he plays, not just starts or stays in for an entire game. I can't see why it would be harmful to put Smith in unless he somehow performs far, far, far worse than Greer and that means actually running backwards into our endzone or literally handing the ball to the opposing defense with a bow and birthday card.
  17. Nah, they'd toss his stuff in garbage bags, cancel his door access card and leave his stuff in the lowest floor of the parking garage.
  18. It's because he follows the playbook and doesn't cause... ...yeah, put Smith in.
  19. It's the same logic that keeps a bus driver in the game at QB when a MotoGP racer needs to be in.
  20. Canales did pretty well with that team, especially when going toe-to-toe with K-State of that time.
  21. With the way UNT tends to grab good RBs and blocking linemen, this would work well. But you'd still need a solid QB to make passes to keep defenses honest.
  22. I was in the area of the Loma Prieta quake as a child. Where we were lost a number of buildings, but being 6 and seeing how much that earthquake seemingly flattened the Bay Area was frightening. I remember being worried for hours about my mom as she'd often take the BART and her route took her under the bay to work every morning.
  23. It's the sort of improvement McNulty should have had from say, year one to year two, or during practices. It's not the sort of improvement you should expect to see in a senior QB. It's pretty inexcusable, either on his part or the part of the coaches.
  24. I got a feeling it'll take a busload of INTs and knocked-away passes to get Mac to look at someone else besides McNulty.
  25. While I was happy about the 2013 season, I thought that the contract deal was very, very premature.
