  1. I didn't realize that the MCoy's are from Graham? That area is a nice breeding ground for under-the-radar talent. UNT has had two players from Graham in recent memory - Tubby Coleman and Jason May.
  2. I just love Coach Dodge's "can-do, hard work" attitude. I think this type of attitude is a huge part of his success to this point, and it makes him a great ambassador for UNT athletics.
  3. I am very excited about the recruiting news so far. I think it's safe to say that none of these recruits would have come to UNT before Dodge became HC.
  4. Harry - please give me access to your new message boards. I did have access to the MGR, and I'm an avid supporter of the MEAN GREEN! I'll check back later and let you know when I can access the boards. Thanks as always!
  5. Database Administrator for Cingular Wireless (basically a computer geek... along with being a MEAN GREEN GEEK!)
  6. I would show Riley a picture of our cheerleader Caris and mention that there are 17,000 more of these beauties at UNT... Wish they all could be North Texas girls
  7. My expectations are simple: - Expect a team that is trying to win instead of trying not to lose - Expect an offense that isn't the worst in the SBC (and continues to improve) - Expect an attitude that every game can be won The rest will take care of itself over time...
  8. At a minimum, we won't have to suffer through a QB draw play on 3rd and 15... This coming year is actually going to be fun!
  9. Thank God it's finally over!!! The New Era now begins...
  10. Or, maybe Dodge comes to UNT next year and then recruits his son? To me, a D1A head coach opportunity for probably $300,000.00 or more per year is likely a decent reason to change jobs. Technically, he could keep his residence in Southlake - it's not that far up Hwy 377 to Denton.
  11. I think it was mostly Robertson making some unbelievable second and third moves that got him some big yards. The general blocking was still not very good as Robertson was having to juke FAU players at the line of scrimmage just to get a little open space. Also, the FAU offensive line kinda had their way with our D-Line for most of the game. We really need to bulk up on the D-Line. But, I'll give them credit in that they did make some key plays in the second half to give the team a chance.
  12. I wouldn't directly compare Dunham and Mercer - two different styles during two different times in UNT Athletics. I do hope that George stays on for play-by-play. My feeling is that his involvement with UNT has been an overall positive and would continue to be so.
  13. If DD comes back (which I think he will 'cause of the contract).. ... and a good OC is hired ... and DD lets the new OC run a new offense with more than 5 plays ... and if a good OL coach is hired ... and if we can find a solution to the QB woes ... and if we're able to pull in some new OLine and DLine talent ... and if the team somehow becomes more disciplined then I think we have a chance at being competitive.
  14. Ditto. Only Dickey can pull a defeat from the jaws of victory like tonight. And Flannigan. And every coach that has anything to do at all with the worst offense in the entire country.
  15. Hey, I listen to The Ticket and 95.3 The Range, and I'm not very old. The Range is greatness! I also listen to 89.7 Power FM (Christian Rock Station).
  16. This is an interesting thread, as I've always stated that given more money, RV would make many more things happen for UNT athletics, including coaching upgrades. What did the TCU "Committee of 100" do when they raised money to get TCU athletics back on track? Did they have their own private account(s), or were their finances somehow tied to the university? I am definitely not touting that we should abandon direct contributions to UNT and its athletic department - I will continue to give all that I can and then some more. But, the idea of a private venture for a specific goal is intriguing as well.
  17. LOL! That was a good one - thanks for the laugh UNTBill
  18. Exactly. For all those who dream of having a high-profile head coach, go to RV with a big check in hand. The extra $150,000.00 per year to pay this type of coach doesn't grow on trees - it comes from us - and that is how we basically control the destiny of this program.
  19. Too true... So, if RV were to go looking for another coach, he would need a committment from the University as well as a financial committment. I'm not sure that we'll get much more money (as a pct. of student fees) from the school. Most big time programs get their money from big donations. Would we Mean Green faithful open our wallets for RV to go and get a high-caliber head coach along with high-caliber assistants? Let's say that RV was on board with reassigning Dickey and grabbing a very good head coach - someone who would demand a salary in the $400,000.00 range. Would we come to RV with a 3 year financial committment (say 1.2 million) to make this happen? There are some notable exceptions to the "money = football success" formula, but not many. If we want that high profile coach, let's go to RV with open wallets and show him the support that he really needs. And FWIW - I do appreciate what Dickey and RV have brought to the program over the past 5+ years. We are further along in both talent and facilities (and fan base) than we were in 1994. Let's not tear it down - let's march forward. RV can only march faster if we give him the tools he needs.
  20. If Dickey is too sick to coach, then why doesn't he step down or at least step aside for a while? We have not even been competitive at all the last 3 games. This is just becoming so ridiculous. Our offense is probably the worst in the nation. I've really tried to support Dickey and RF through all of the humiliating non-conference losses, and I've appreciated their efforts toward conference championships. But I really think that whatever little bit of magic they had is long gone. I would hate to see us play a good I-AA team because I think we'd get whipped at this point. Guys, we really need to take back our program - I fear that it is in a lot of trouble.
  21. I can't imagine the look on my manager's face if I ever went to him and said "Look, sorry my group messed up so badly today - I just didn't have my group ready to work". Dickey is so freakin' frustrating - why can't he act like he cares? "Didn't have the team ready to play today... la-de-da, whoop-de-do, we have such a young team... ho-hum, skip-to-my-loo, did I mention that all of our kids are under 30 years old and are very young?... ho-hum" I've tried so hard to support this guy and his staff - this is becoming very, very hard to do.
  22. He should blame himself. This loss is absurd, embarrasing, and unacceptable. The team's interest level is going to mimic the head coach's interest level, which seems to be about zero in OOC games until after the game is over. Tulsa and Akron were benchmark games for this program - guess there's always next year, and the next, and the next...
  23. Grades are pretty close to accurate. I would revise as below: Offense F Defense A- Special Teams B Coaching F------------------------------- I have no problems with the defense from last week - Tulsa could have easily hung 50+ points on us if the defense didn't play as well as they did last Saturday.
  24. Akron is riding a crest of nice recruits like many mid-majors do (remember UNT in 2002?). We've seen this with Toledo, Marshall, Bowling Green, etc. Tulsa is definitely riding a crest at this time as well. But inevitably, they will all have some down years in the coming future. Given the first 3 weeks of the season, I'm not shocked that we're 17.5 point dogs to Akron. Here's hoping that the OL line makes a 1000% progression between Tulsa and Akron...
