  1. No, it won't. But they're not consistent enough for the postseason, anyway.
  2. I'm pretty sure I said that before the season. I think the highest I ever dared to go was 9-7, and I'll stay by that. We'll probably squeak out another one.
  3. What page do they put the New Orleans Bowl on?
  4. Jerry Moore's record at Appalachian State is 139-67. Chew on that for a little while and then consider that they hung tougher vs. LSU than we did this year. Of course, I'm sure their Div 1-AA team wasn't as "young" as ours. Appalachian State's only had one losing season under coach Moore in something like 17 years.
  5. All things that the scouts won't give a rat's butt about. It is still something to concern any team interested in drafting him. Putting a ball on the ground, for ANY reason, won't be looked at lightly by NFL scouts. Scout: "Well, I might take Quinn here, but you can't let him return punts if we're behind or the QB is struggling or the defense can't stop the run." GM: "Next, please." This is reality. I'M not blaming JQ for the outcomes of any of the games. I'm simply telling you what scouts whose sole concern is with individual performance are going to think. It's also an area for JQ to work on. Heaven forbid you suggest that one of our star players not have a 100% perfect game.
  6. Yeah, we might fall from our perch among the worst teams in Div 1A.
  7. Nice analysis. It might be interesting to note that the guy has a similar build and injury history to DM. Of course, then we'd get flamed for labelling someone "injury-prone" before they go on to get concussed. http://www.couriernews.com/archivedstory.asp?ID=4095 "Wilson who passed for 1,891 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 660 and nine touchdowns. The Purple Dogs were shut out by Bentonville in the season finale, a game Wilson missed with a knee injury that required surgery after the season, and the senior only played a half in three games when Fayetteville started the season 9-0." Wilson is by all reports an amazing talent, though.
  8. I think the biggest factor for JQ in the NFL will actually be his play on special teams. JQ likely won't be an early round pick, not in this school or this offense. Teams looking late for a WR won't be looking for their #1 or #2 and if you want to be on their roster after that you've got to play special teams. If you've shown an ability there, and you've got a good combination of size/speed/brains, then they don't care where you went or who you played or what offense you ran in. Right now, the knock on him will be: "Sometimes tries to do to much to provide a spark, which can have disastrous results."
  9. Wilson's full stats can be found at: http://www.kjccc.org/football/05/05stats/0...f/sindiv_2.html 63-107 (59%) for 910 yds, with 8 TDs and 2 INTs passing 33 car, 214 yds (6.48 ypc) and 1 TD Very nice numbers for the games he played. However, I don't really know that a guy with one year as a JuCo is really any different than the guys we have on the roster at this point in time. Yes, we need more bodies to compete and all, but that's all I can see this as.
  10. He'll possibly be a late-round draft pick in the NFL. He's listed somewhere between 8-15 in QBs available for the draft. He was good enough to be a starter at Houston, but he blew out his knee, and the coach who recruited him got fired. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...ne.d418bd3.html The kid's certainly good enough to play Div 1-A.
  11. Replacing a QB takes much more of a toll on your team than any other position, so the comparison to Lineberry doesn't really work. Byerly may have serious talent, but, as stated before, he's now a year behind. I don't really believe that he would've led us to another Belt title this year, because he's not quite big enough to play on either line (although he's not far off for us ). I liked what I saw from Byerly in practices, but Meager was barely behind him last year, and now he (Byerly) hasn't played in a while. If I were making out a depth chart right now, he'd be #3 at best. He would have to blow everyone else away completely to make it. It could happen. Byerly could turn it around, BUT you have to be a team leader to play at the QB position. If you can't make the 1.8 GPA to play college football, I do not believe your team can have the necessary faith in you.
  12. Byerly is easy to bring down. He missed an entire season so far without even getting on the field. Nobody even had to hit him to bring him down. He did it all on his own. It would be foolishness to rely on a person who can't make the grades to lead your team, esp. at the QB position. And don't forget he's now a year behind in the offense (I know, not like it's complicated, but still).
  13. Gotta respect what that guy's done on the field. This is a guy that they said wasn't smart enough to play QB in Div. I College Football. He's now the backup QB for the Denver Broncos.

    AA

Yeah, if Strahan gets injured, they'll put Tuck in and/or move Umenyiora over. Awasom is really more of the #3 at DE. Still, he's done enough to hang around there.
  15. Well, here's to hoping ASU does better against USM than we did.
  16. DON'T READ HIS POSTS, HE'S CLEVERLY HIDDEN SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES TO CONTROL YOUR MINDS! HE'S INSIDE YOUR BRAINS! TREPAN YOURSELVES NOW TO LET THE DEMON COACH OUT!
  17. People said this year would've been different if we had Zac Taylor, as if we should give Dickey credit for a player on Nebraska's roster because we were #2 or #3 on his list before Nebraska called him and he hopped on board posthaste.
  18. 2002 was actually the all-star defense we talk about. 2003 was a better overall team, but the defense was weaker and the offense stronger. If the offense is holding the ball longer, it gives less opportunity for scoring.
  19. Haven't you heard? We need to give Dickey credit for QBs he didn't sign. If they were here, we would've won the Sun Belt again and gotten blown out in the New Orleans via Lafayette Bowl. It would've been GLORIOUS! On the strength of players Dickey didn't sign, I don't understand how he's not widely regarded as the best coach in the NCAA.
  20. We face the same type of fronts every year. The only time we've not had success is OOC, where it becomes obvious we don't have the talent of other mid-majors. We averaged between 2200-2400 rushing yards from 2002-2004. We had 1573 this year. That was the difference. We couldn't/didn't run successfully against those fronts. The 3-and-outs and poor defense had us playing with our backs to the wall all season. Sure, we didn't have a QB capable of playing catch-up, but we don't have an offense for it, either.
  21. Our offense actually changed when Flanigan took over in 2002. We had an option based attack back then. This year in no way looked like the offenses before Hall, except for inefficiency. Hall was an efficient QB, yes, but the only real difference was we were able to run the ball against the Belt, and we were able to stop them on defense. This was particularly helpful when we had a redshirt freshman starting for us in 2002, and he didn't have to have anywhere NEAR the passing attempts that we've had this season, because we ran ran ran the ball and had a top 20 defense. So I disagree in QB being the biggest point of need. We don't run the West Coast offense. We don't have an O-line that can protect the pass and it has pretty much stunk at running the ball. And our D was a sieve all year. These are the differences. I'll agree that we didn't have the QB play, but it wasn't the be-all end-all that some would like to make it out to be. And regardless, we don't HAVE Zac Taylor. I'm sure if we would've recruited Vince Young a few years ago, this year would've been totally different as well. Maybe we should give Dickey another extension because he has to face tough teams like FIU and Troy without Vince Young.
