  1. I would be susprised if New Orleans was larger than Shreveport/Bossier post Katrina, and my Louisiana friends tell me Baton Rouge has over 1 million population. At any rate, what ever T.V. market they have is greater than La.Tech's. I just see no logic in the manner in which the Big East is expanding, but then again they didn't ask for my input. ECU they can have, but I am sorry to see Tulane go.Good news for us is that La. Tech's tenure in the Eastern Division of CUSA just got longer. CUSA and Sun Belt should probably sit down and realine both conferences in a regional manner. I don't see the MWC as a viable option for either conference's members, because if it was UTEP would have been long gone.Just an old man's opinion.
  2. I don't see what Tulane brings to the Big East unless its the N.O. Bowl, warm up game for the Sugar Bowl.New Orleans is 3rd largest city in Louisiana behind Baton Rouge and I think Shreveport/Bossier City, and no longer has a newspaper that prints daily. I see no reason to push the button and add schools just because we lost 2. We still have a presence in Louisiana and N. Carolina.
  3. We were picked to come in 7th or 8th this year in the Belt because of lack of talent, and thats where we finished. We are going to be better next year . Wins should include Idaho,Tulane ,UTEP,UTSA,UAB,and maybe Rice. We would need a lot of breaks to beat ECU,Tulsa,Marshall, Ohio, or Ball State. Only way we beat Georgia is if they miss their bus to the game.Put me down for 5&7,6&6 if we get lucky.
  4. If you are turning 70 in 2013,which I am, there are a number of reasons to look forward to next year. Hell, at my age I look forward to every year.
  5. R.V. is having discussions with UTSA,Tulas, and La. Tech about establishing some type of traveling trophy. I suggested an Armadillo.Having given it more thought a Possum might be more appropriate, as we play dead at home, and are road kill when we travel.
  6. You will never see NT on our helmets. You might see UNT, but not as long as Rick is AD. The compromise is NORTH TEXAS, as per R.V.
  7. You need to provide Rick with an option that will satisfy Jackson and university standards, what ever they are. Rick went to "Mean Green" because of so many local/regional high schools that were "Eagles". There is no way we are going to have a helmet with just "NT" on it because of reasons I stated before. What you might be able to sell is "NORTH TEXAS" with either the SOW or eagle claw as part of it. As far as green colors,I have 5 green shirts and none match whatever our present flavor of the year is.
  8. Since 1961 I have seen more shades of green and shapes of eagles that I thought ever existed. I love this new NT helmet, which to me combines the old with the new. However, Rick is boxed in. If he uses initials,Jackson will demand UNT, which puts us lost with UAB,UCF,FAU,FIU,ECU,etc. To avoid that, we will continue to use NORTH TEXAS , which I would to see combined with the SOW. That is what you need to sell to Rick.
  9. If not for greed, we would still be in the Belt, which, unlike us, has improved greatly in the past 10 years. Looks like up to 5 schools could get bowl bids.
  10. You make good points, but my fear is this ends up being exactly like last year's team. That would be a terrible disappointment from the view of preseason expectations. At this early point in our season, I don't know if our expectations are realistic. Time will tell. /quote]
  11. I was at the game. We have some good individual players, but they are not yet a team. UAH plays the same style of basketball that Denver does, which gives us fits. We got zero fast break points, could not hit from outside so they packed it in on Tony, and lost the game in the end at the line, missing a 1&1, and both 2 shot fouls. This basically is the same UNT team that lost 14 games last year, and has a new coach this year. We are going to be really good later in season, but now there is a learning curve.Don't give up on this team, but realize that early on we probably will lose a few games along the way to schools such as UAH.
  12. Since my freshman year of 1961 we have never had a big rival. In order to do so,it takes 2 to dance, and SMU has zero interest. They still hang on to their annual game with TCU as their biggie.UTEP has rival games already established with New Mexico and New Mexico State, although State's future is uncertain at best. La Tech will go east for one year, and then move west.I would think their natural rival will probably be Tulane. If UTSA wants to establish something special with Texas State instead of UNT,then we are looking at Tulsa, but I don't know their interest level. Plus Tulsa is smallest 1a school in NCAA, and would travel about as well as Rice.
  13. Two free floor seats to Friday's game from 1st snail mail address sent to Wardly1943@cmail.com. Thanks, Ward White
  14. I have 2 football tickets to ULM free to 1st snail mail adress I receive[wardly1943@gmail.com]
  15. Our golf team uses the claw with "Mean Green "in the Middle. Rick V. Will never use UNT. His feeling, and I tend to agree, is that we are known as NORTH TEXAS, or NORTH TEXAS STATE by some announcers. He doesn't want us thrown in with the likes of UAB,UCF, etc. who are known only to their fans, Having said that, I love the claw, paid $75.00 to embroidery shop to copy golf team's logo, and had it put on in some of my caps and shirts.
  16. In golf its refered to as L.O.F.T.
  17. K- state wanted out of last years game in Denton, and we would not let them out of contract. Turn about is fair play.

  19. If you attend an SMU game you think they will fill the stadium based upon activity and tailgating in parking lots. However, most students take their party elsewhere and don't attend the game. Of course Denton was dry when I was a student, so we didn't tailgate.
  20. Two boys walk into a barn, and see a large pile of horse dung in the corner. One boy says,"this barn stinks. lets get out of here." The other boy says,"not me. a pile of dung that big must have a pony in it". Difference between pessimism and optimisn.
  21. WE also have lost 7 straight against A-State. It's safe to say that at least we have really gone south in the Belt in the past 8 years.
  22. Beats me.Thats whats great about college football. FIU surprisingly tanked, MTSU and ULM did just the opposite. La Tech is the big winner to me, beating both Virginia and Illinois on the road, and loseing to A&M in one of the best games I have seen so far this season. Go figure.
