  1. Note that Rick raised $2.5 million in 30 days to build a dedicated basketball facility. I don't think we raised $5 million in 7 years for new football stadium. Winning may not cure all, but it sure helps.
  2. Sagarin preseason ratings, which I have found to be pretty accurate over the years, ranks UNT 141st out of 246 1aand 1aa schools.Idaho@121,La. Monroe@119,Sam Houston@116,Rice@109, and Wofford@105 just to name a few.We are ranked 7th out of 10 schools in Sunbelt, with A.State first and #90 in Sagarin. FYI
  3. I went to K. State/NT game in 80's when we were ranked in top 5 in 1aa and Wildcats had not won a game in over 2 years.[they beat us at very end of game] I thought Manhattan made Lubbock look like paradise.
  4. I THINK that they play basketball on a portable floor in the end zone at the Kibbie Dome. Can't remember for sure[senior moment]
  5. I remember when the city of Waco slogan was something like "spend a weekend in Waco[it will seem like a week["
  6. I think that at some point the Pac 12,Big 12,Big 10,ACC,and SEC will create a new division within the NCAA. They will still play out of conference games with Big East,MWC,CUSA,MAC,and the Belt, much like all D1 schools do now when scheduling a 1aa opponent like SFA, Sam Houston, etc. There will just be 3 degrees of seperation instead of 2. Just an old man's opinion.
  7. daylight, like fellowship, is overated. as a vampire the light burns my eyes. hence the 6 year time lapse regarding the opening of A&M's new drug store. i just slept thru it.wake me when we get ours.
  8. I think they are dead in the water.Idaho will probably drop back to the Big Sky, which is where they belong. NMSU's only hope was the Sun Belt, which has expressed little interest. They might hang around a few years to see if Big East takes ECU, and CUSA replaces them with a Sun Belt school creating a need for another school in the Belt. The sad truth is that they are isolated, not in the Belt's footprint, and bring little to the table.Neither New Mexico, despite what they say,nor UTEP want them in the same conference as them. Its a shame because unlike Idaho they have decent athletic facalities.
  9. Looking ahead, its clear that in Division 1a [old term]there is a big gap between the haves and have nots. Just as Division 1aa was created in about 1978, i can see another split ahead. CUSA,MWC,Sun Belt,MAC,and Big East would form a new mid major division. For example, U.Texas with a $100million+ athletic budget and UL@Monroe with a budget of less that $10million just don't belong in the same division.Thoughts?
  10. so its been open 6 years. time flys when you turn 69. thanks for update, Ward White
  11. I think I saw a t.v.special in the past few years showing a new A&M School of Pharmacy that was built in the Valley. However, it was empty since State didn't fund money for furnishings, equipment, of staff. I don't know what status is now.
  12. Just because you can, does not mean you should. DFW needed a public/state law school. It now has one. Both UNT and the State of Texas shpuld cut its losses and move on.
  13. Not even the Belt , nor Big Sky, wants New Mexico State. They are in the middle of nowhere,600 miles from Dallas, have a terrible football program, and almost no fan base. Their basketball program is decent, and they do field a baseball team, but thats like" staying married for the kids".They bring nothing to the table, and will be lucky to find a conference for their other sports, let alone football. If UTEP or UNM wanted them in CUSA of MWC, they would be in. But they don't, so they are not.
  14. Unlike football, college basketball coaches schedule their non conference games directly with their peers.J.J. and the then head coach at L.S.U. had a personal relationship, hence the home and home.If J.J. was still here, we would probably have a few home and home games with T.C.U. since thats where the x-L.S.U. coach ended up. College baseball schedules their non conference games the same way.Its called the buddy system.
  15. As a UNT alumn, class of 66', I wanted us to have a public law school in DFW. As a tax payer, we now have one. I see no need for another. What is needed is a School of Pharmacy. Lets save our money and political chips to make sure that need is fullfilled.
  16. I don't see it that way. We don't need both 2 private and 2 state state law schools within 100 miles of DFW. Besides, what "different market" are you referring to? Bottom line: The big fish eat the little fish. I think our law school just got swallowed.
  17. We tried unsuccessfully 10 years ago to purchase TWU law school in Ft. Worth. It appears A&M just succeeded where we failed. Bigger question: Does this kill our law school? The reason it was aproved was that there was no public law school available in DFW. Now there is. Does Texas need a state law school in both Dallas and Ft. Worth? I would think not. Your thoughts and reasons why the state should/would still allow us to move forward. Personally, I think we are dead in the water.
  18. We had no real alumni base because President J.C. Matthews was against having a strong association. On another subject,I served on the UNT Foundation Board for 3 years in the mid 90's , whose job it was to try and consolidate non designated donations as well as deicide if we wanted them at all. A number of people were just trying to give us junk that had no real value but that they could write off. I was told that J.C.Nolen barely escaped a prison sentence for misapprociation of designated alumni donations which he was diverting to the Athletic Department during the Hayden Fry era.Regardless, after Nolen was forced out, his successor Dr. Frank Vandiver{sic?} was no friend of athletics. I attended a meeting in late 70's where a group of us offered to hire Abner Haynes as fundraiser for the athletic department, paying all his expenses, with 100% of contributions going to the university. We were told that the university would not give us official status allowing contributions to be written off as a tax deduction. This is to me the greatest opportunity that was lost. The rest is history.
  19. I said "for what its worth". However, I find the Bleacher Report to be more accurate that most of posts on this board. All Iwas attempting to repeat was that there are some very good coaches in the Belt, which with the exception of Troy, wasn't the case 10 years ago.THE END!
  20. same as a mid major in basketball.[ a non BCS conference]. you guys are missing the point, which is that the Belt has some pretty good head football coaches. sorry if post was too complicated.
  21. Bleacher report, for what its worth, listed 10 head football coaches that they felt were ready to move up to next level. Of the 10, 5 were from the Sun Belt, plus Dykes from La. Tech.
  22. FYI, i mailed R.V. the UNT desigh from mghelments.com. suggest you do the same if you have any new ideas.
  23. R.V.'s opinion is not to use initials, such as U.N.T.,U.A,B,U.C.F. ,etc. He feels that most people from other parts of the country might not know what it stands for, as we are still known primarily as a regional university. life is a comprise, and i have seen several attractive blends of S.O.W. and NORTH TEXAS posted. might i suggest that the designers of these logos send them to Rick for his consideration at rick.villarreal@unt.edu. it will do more good than singing to the choir.
  24. best i remember is in high 60's or low 70's during D.D.'s run.
