  1. You make good points, but my fear is this ends up being exactly like last year's team. That would be a terrible disappointment from the view of preseason expectations. At this early point in our season, I don't know if our expectations are realistic. Time will tell. /quote]
  2. I was at the game. We have some good individual players, but they are not yet a team. UAH plays the same style of basketball that Denver does, which gives us fits. We got zero fast break points, could not hit from outside so they packed it in on Tony, and lost the game in the end at the line, missing a 1&1, and both 2 shot fouls. This basically is the same UNT team that lost 14 games last year, and has a new coach this year. We are going to be really good later in season, but now there is a learning curve.Don't give up on this team, but realize that early on we probably will lose a few games along the way to schools such as UAH.
  3. Since my freshman year of 1961 we have never had a big rival. In order to do so,it takes 2 to dance, and SMU has zero interest. They still hang on to their annual game with TCU as their biggie.UTEP has rival games already established with New Mexico and New Mexico State, although State's future is uncertain at best. La Tech will go east for one year, and then move west.I would think their natural rival will probably be Tulane. If UTSA wants to establish something special with Texas State instead of UNT,then we are looking at Tulsa, but I don't know their interest level. Plus Tulsa is smallest 1a school in NCAA, and would travel about as well as Rice.
  4. Two free floor seats to Friday's game from 1st snail mail address sent to Wardly1943@cmail.com. Thanks, Ward White
  5. I have 2 football tickets to ULM free to 1st snail mail adress I receive[wardly1943@gmail.com]
  6. Our golf team uses the claw with "Mean Green "in the Middle. Rick V. Will never use UNT. His feeling, and I tend to agree, is that we are known as NORTH TEXAS, or NORTH TEXAS STATE by some announcers. He doesn't want us thrown in with the likes of UAB,UCF, etc. who are known only to their fans, Having said that, I love the claw, paid $75.00 to embroidery shop to copy golf team's logo, and had it put on in some of my caps and shirts.
  7. In golf its refered to as L.O.F.T.
  8. K- state wanted out of last years game in Denton, and we would not let them out of contract. Turn about is fair play.

  10. If you attend an SMU game you think they will fill the stadium based upon activity and tailgating in parking lots. However, most students take their party elsewhere and don't attend the game. Of course Denton was dry when I was a student, so we didn't tailgate.
  11. Two boys walk into a barn, and see a large pile of horse dung in the corner. One boy says,"this barn stinks. lets get out of here." The other boy says,"not me. a pile of dung that big must have a pony in it". Difference between pessimism and optimisn.
  12. WE also have lost 7 straight against A-State. It's safe to say that at least we have really gone south in the Belt in the past 8 years.
  13. Beats me.Thats whats great about college football. FIU surprisingly tanked, MTSU and ULM did just the opposite. La Tech is the big winner to me, beating both Virginia and Illinois on the road, and loseing to A&M in one of the best games I have seen so far this season. Go figure.
  14. However, these are the same 10 coaches that picked FIU to win the conference, so what the hell.
  15. We are 7&5 against MTSU,lost 5 of last 10 games. I can't remember if we beat ULL last year, but we were 4&6 thru 2010,lost 5 of last 6 games. So I guess the answer is that we have never been better than Troy, have basically won every other year against MTSU,and ULM passed us about 5 or 6 years ago. And yes, I am one of 2 posters that don't think at this point we have much talent, along with the 10 Belt coaches that picked up to finish 8th in conference.
  16. Monkeypox, after watching MTSU beat WKU last night on the road I doubt that you and I were right in thinking we could play on the same level as Blue Raiders at their place. Also, as pointed out by another post, shows the gap between our talent and that of the top 4 teams in the Belt. Just takes time and solid recruiting.
  17. I stand corrected. As per the 2012 Preseason Sun Belt Coaches Conference Poll dated 7/18/12 :1]FIU 2]A-State 3]ULL 4]WKU 5]Troy 6]ULM 7]MTSU 8]UNT 9]FAU 10]USA. Looks like FIU really tanked,ULM took their top spot, and MTSU is playing well, beating Georgia Tech by 2 or 3 t.d.'s on the road.
  18. I am talking about the season as a whole, not one game in particular. We got out butt kicked by both Houston and MTSU. It happens. My biggest disapointment to date was the Troy game, one that we should have won but managed to loose.ULL was a very good win, MTSU a disapointing loss, especially after we pounded them last yeat at home. Also, if memory serves, the coaching poll favorites were ULM,W.K.,ULL, and A-State. However I am an old man with selective memory and limited computer skills who can't spell who doesn't remember the exact order. I'm sure someone much wiser than I can provide the exact pre-season pecking order. Finally,I have been supporting the Eagles since my freshman year of 61', have seen more missed opportunities to build the program than I can count, and never knew there were so many shades of green or shapes of eagles. In short, I feel your pain and frustration, and am glad that so many alumni are not just expecting, but demanding first class athletic programs to compliment our first class university. All I am trying to say is that it takes time to build a football program, and no one wants to win more than our coaching staff, our players, and me. Keep posting, and "Go Eagles".[sorry,I am old school, and have never taken to "mean green"]
  19. Monkeypox, that not what I meant and you know it. I would expect a 6&6 or 7&5 record next year, depending upon which teams we play in Eastern Dividion of CUSA. Unless schedule changes,we have Idaho and Ball U. home, and Ohio away. Both MAC teams are good, but as of now the only money game scheduled is at Georgia. You eat an elephant a bite at a time. It's just hard to win without much talent, which I feel Mac will be able to recruite.
  20. Goals must be reasonable and obtainable with a little pie in the sky. Anyone who projected more that 4 to 5 wins had unreasonable expecations based upon the pre-season Sun Belt coaches poll ,which picked us 7th, ahead of only FIU,FAU, and USA. Some of us need to get real.
  21. I think that Rick made a grave mistake in allowing Todd to bring his high school staff with him. However, when he was first hired ,I heard very few naysayers, and his first spring game had the largest attendance we have ever had. I also think he was allowed to stay around too long because we just could not afford to buy him our. With few exceptions, most UNT football supporters are " all hat and no cattle." At some point we must draw the line in the sand, quit looking in the rear view mirror, and move forward .Tulsa is the "best in the west" in CUSA. How many of our present team could start for them? Lets keep that in mind when making comparisons and referring to all this talent we suppposedly now have. In my opinion, the Golden Hurricanes should be the benchmark of our program, and how we judge our players and coaching staff in the future.
  22. Let me try again. With the exception of Chancellor, I see no playmakers on our team, and certainly don't see the amount of talent some of you keep refering to. We are not a very good team, and probably won't be for another year or two.Should be much better in Mac's 4th and 5th year. Just an opinion.
  23. I think when Sun Belt "All Conference" players are announced at years end you will see what little talent we actually have.
