My son is UAB grad and football program was killed by Alabama BOR. It's death began a few years ago when UAB had funding lined up for new campus stadium and BOR nixed it. -
Will failure in recruiting lead to another losing season in 2015?
wardly replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
After this years performance, did anyone see a reason to be optimistic in 2015? If so, please elaborate, because I don't. -
Why in the world would Mac go to SMU? That's like saying he would go to North Texas.

Just received word of Corky Nelson's passing this AM
wardly replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Dallas Green,I was close on my facts. [sort of]. At any rate, Hurley frowned on such mingling. -
I was at the game, and Indiana, who had beaten Missouri, flat kicked our ass.

No difference, except for perhaps So. Miss. Otherwise,we were in no other game that we lost. We just didn't get the play we needed from defensive front 4 and Q.B.

I was watching Game Day, and the discussion came up about the termination of Florida's head coach, who had a strong defensive coaching background. The consensus was that the game has changed, and that while you still needed to have a good defense, you need to have a better offense and concentrate on out scoring your opponent.I look at TCU, who brought in a new OC and changed the way the Frogs play football. Their defense is o.k.,but their offense really lights it up.My question is, does North Texas have an outdated coaching philosophy?Just asking.

Just received word of Corky Nelson's passing this AM
wardly replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I was Corky's cart partner at the Don January. The next week he got fired.I called to offer my condolences, and he said something to the effect that "damn, I didn't think we played that bad" referring to the golf tournament. Al Hurley fired Corky because he got a divorce and married Judy, our women's basketball coach. Hurley had previously fired a new A.D. whose last name was "White" for divorcing his wife and dating our ticket manager, whom he later married. White didn't last a year. This was about 1988. Hurley did a lot for the University, but nothing for athletics, and was a real puritan. Having said that, he was a hell of a lot better than Frank Vandiver[sic], who nearly destroyed the football program. I am really glad that I got to see him inducted into our Hall of Fame. In my opinion, he did more with less than any football coach in our modern era. Just an old man's opinion. -
Playoff Committee: No Love for CUSA, Marshall, or G5
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Best guess is 1 loss Colorado State if they win out.In addition[,posting the obvious], unless Texas beats TCU, only 3 out of our 12 opponents this year have winning records, Short walk from pen house to outhouse. -
With McCarney, It's All Downhill From Here
wardly replied to cl_1_2008's topic in Mean Green Football
We lost many starters last year, which was Dodge's senior class, off a 9&4 team. We are going to lose a "ton" off this years 3&9/4&8 squad. What does that bode for 2015? Just asking. -
UAB Boosters Allege Trustees Could End Football Program
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If you compare population, Georgia in a no brainer. However, if you are looking at programs, I agree that ULL and/or A-State would be the natural choice. I picked Ga. Southern because of their 1aa success, which was better than Marshall's.I would rather not expand into Georgia if Ga. State is only choice. Whoever it is needs to bring t.v.sets.- 75 replies

We need a school in Georgia. I would take Ga. Southern over A-State or ULL.- 75 replies

List of UNT Football seasons?
wardly replied to ChristopherRyanWilkes's topic in Mean Green Football
We lost to A-State 8 years in a row beginning in 2005, and if we played today still couldn't beat them. -
My picks would be SMU,UTSA,UNT, and TT. Any team that has not won a game has to be #1. UTSA, with a senior heavy squad, started out beating Houston, giving Arizona a good game, and then fell on a ditch.UNT was overated based upon their personel loses from last year's team, but still should have been a 6&6 or 5&7 team. TT's is a disaster, with a non conference schedule that should have made them bowl worthy.

DRC: Maybe Mac's right, Maybe its too early to bury UNT
wardly replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Did we score 1st on a safety, and then all hell broke loose? I'm an old man, but if that is the way it happened I was there. -
DRC: Maybe Mac's right, Maybe its too early to bury UNT
wardly replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Because we were favored at home against La. Tech, and they beat us as soundly as any team has in the 53 seasons I have followed the Eagles. -

wardly replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Still, even if we win out, we would have beaten no one with a winning record, with the possible exception of UTEP. Personally, losses to La. Tech and So.Miss. showed me we are far from a solid team. -

wardly replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think we can beat either UT I don't think we can beat either UT@ on the road, and even if we finish 6&6, which I would consider a good rebuilding record, we certainly are not bowl worthy. Just an old man's opinion. -
We also beat SMU.Whee!

MGS: Top 5 Games In NT History...'75 Tennessee?
wardly replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
To my knowledge we have no marquee wins over a ranked team, so the win at Tennessee works for me as number one.I believe that Woods was "player of the week" for his performance .Fry used that victory to turn our program around, which peaked in our 77' top 20 ranking. I'm glad someone cares enough to rank our top 5 wins.
