  1. At any rate, wishing all of you and yours a Green and White Christmas.I am going to enjoy all[well, maybe most] of the 36 bowl games and look forward to attending another one that the Eagles play in before I die.Blessings!
  2. We are in violent agreement. However, I thing when we did the coaches contract was short term and there was as much money involved. Regarding changes, this board has so many posts about firing the AD and both men's head coaches that I can't keep up with who said what. I apologize if I painted you with a broad brush.
  3. I don't know who you want to get rid of,but it sounds like everyone. Just an old man's opinion:1] R.V. will not be fired. Our new president has a serious financial problem to deal with and I doubt athletics is high on his radar.2] This is Mac's last job.We owe him about $700,00 a year for 5 years or so. At his age and with his health suspect he will clip coupons until his contract expires. 3] even if men's basketball crapes out, he won't be fired, as we do not have the money to hire a better and more expensive replacement. Its not like we are a basketball powerhouse. Even when J.J. was winning we only averaged about 3,000 or so fans. Big Whoop! Bottom line: cleaning house is expensive, and our program may have a little cushion, but basically lives paycheck to paycheck. We need to loose the attitude that WE don't care what it cost as long as WE don't have to pay for it.[WE being you and me]
  4. Rick, that's even worse. If you reassign him, the University must continue to pay his salary plus that of his replacement. We don't have the money to do that.
  5. I keep reading on this site about some of you wanting "someone" to buy us out of existing coaches contracts. The repayment to the state for money we owe back because of "creative accounting" has created a budget crunch in all departments, including athletics. We do not have the funds to buy anyone out of their contract even if the Athletic Department wanted to.This you can take to the bank[pun intended].
  6. High School QB's don't want to play run oriented offenses like Dickey's of Mac's. They want to play TCU.Baylor, and TT type offenses. Until Mac turns our O.C. loose we will continue to struggle at that key position. Just an old man's opinion.
  7. As a generalization, any time we go head to head with SMU we will have a problem. They are in a big city, better conference ,programs are similar, and undergraduate degree is more valuable.
  8. He should feel right at home. The USF Bulls have won 9 games the past 3 years.
  9. Rick got the stadium done, which none of his predecessors were able to do. Since North Texas alums generally are all mouth and no money, the stadium costs doubled before we could get enough committed to allow us to bond out the rest. You R.V. haters may criticize some of his hires, and rightfully so,but before his arrival the only dedicated new athletic building built since my freshman year of 61' was a piss ant 3,000+. sq. ft. athletic administration building Hayden Fry pushed thru. At least give the devil his due.
  10. I can hardly wait until we advertise our new law school, which is being touted as producing barristers for those who cannot afford the very best. Perhaps something along the lines of" We are not the best but we are thousands less". Or how about " less than average lawyers for a less that average price."
  11. Rick summed up Coach Mac's tenure at UNT perfectly! He would be best served bringing in a DC with a Texas high school background, otherwise the new head coach at SMU will really eat his lunch.I just don't see a happy ending for Coach Mac. He may be able to coach, but I don't think he can recruit, and 2015 probably will be be a repeat of 2014.
  12. I am a big A-State fan, and hope you get an invitation to CUSA.However, Frank Broyles would have killed your football program if you were in the University of Arkansas system, just like Bear Bryant Jr. killed UAB's. Just an old man's opinion.
  13. They had funding in place a few years ago for an on campus stadium and the BOT nixed it.They also would not approve a contract that at one time would have made Jimbo Fisher UAB's head coach. Is A-State under the University on Arkansas system or a stand alone like Troy and USA? Makes a difference.
  14. The UAB program was killed by Bear Bryant and the Alabama BOT who did not want a football program in Birmingham. It was political, not financial.
  15. On another note, I saw where UNLV's football coach was forced out after a terrible season following last years HOD appearance. Sound familiar? On another note,Congrats to La. Tech! Except for a missed extra point and makeable field goal they would be in Boca Raton.
  16. Are we talking about the same SFA that beat Memphis by 10 points[i forget exact score] at Memphis?
  17. I want some of what you are smoking if you think Missouri,Arkansas, or Nebraska would come to Denton.Even if they did I wouldn't be that excited about us getting hammered at home. I would like to see us play 6 home games, to include an annual 1aa opponent such as SHSU[who could probably kick our ass]. In addition most Belt , MAC , and AAC ,teams would be welcome additions.Schools used to schedule OOC games based upon ; a]one you should win b]one you could win c] one you would have to be lucky as hell to win. I do know that financially we still must play 1 or 2 money games on the road, which is a far cry from the 3 to 5 Dickey was saddled with when he first arrived at North Texas. Since each school has different financial goals I don't know if it is fair to compare our OOC games vs. theirs. It seems reasonable to me for some one[perhaps Harry]to ask Rick to go thru the scheduling steps so we have an understanding as to what is involved, as I certainly do not, and until I do I am not as quick to pull the trigger as some of you .In summary, I just don't have enough information to make an informed opinion[which I admit has not always stopped me in the past]. I also am a big fan of RV and the sports venues we have built during his tenure. He is not perfect. He rolled the dice with Dodge and lost, and the jury is still out on Jonnie Jones replacement.I thought Coach Mac was a good hire, but am extremely disappointed in this past season's performance. Also if I hear again what a hard place UNT is to recruit I think I will puke. Sorry for changing the subject somewhat, but I assure you that I do understand and share your frustrations.
  18. Its going to be even harder for R.V. to get anyone of the Big 5 Conferences to schedule us since both TCU and Baylor getting hammered because of their soft O.C.C.Lets face it. We are a cupcake.
  19. I agree that CUSA probably doesn't want another Texas program, and while I don't think La.Tech would want ULL, I don't know if they have enough juice to prevent their admittance. Either USA or A-State would be a good compromise.
  20. From what I have read,Texas doesn't want 12 teams, and until they do, the Big 12 stays pat.
  21. I don't believe it. These guys bring nothing to the table, plus conference would have to split t.v. revenue 12 ways instead of 10. From every thing I read, Big 12 likes playing a round robin football schedule and coaches do not want a conference playoff game.
  22. It would be nice to find a D.C. with a successful high school Texas background. In a perfect world he would have coached in the Metroplex .
  23. I would gut the Belt, take USA,U.La.La., and A-State, and expand to 16 schools, based upon the impact it has on our conference t.v. contract. If it is financially doable, this would give us UTEP,UTSA,Rice,La. Tech,U. La. La.,A- State,So. Miss., and North Texas in the West.Once you get to 14 schools, why not 16?
