  1. 247 has us 7th of 14 in CUSA,96th nationally. You have to give SMU credit. They did a great job in a short period and left us in the dust.
  2. Rivals has us 108th out of 129 programs, and 9th in CUSA.I can't tell if this is a commitment or signings list, but close enough for government work.
  3. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how your class is ranked, it's how they preform on the field. We are looking at another 3 to 5 win season, which is the real gauge of your ability, or lack there of,to recruit.
  4. I said I am an old man, and just proved it once again. I never look at dates because it reminds me of how close I am to biting the bisque. In fact, took my grandsons to Ft. Worth Rodeo and spent 5 minutes sticking my credit card in an AMT machine thinking it sold carnival ride tickets. Still can't spell Kuehne.
  5. Guys, we have had a dedicated indoor basketball facility for about 2 years named after Earnie Keene. Regarding an indoor practice field for football/soccer, looks to me like that money will go for a men's baseball park first. I really see no reason, other that if mandated by CUSA, to add another non revenue producing sport such as baseball whose games will be attended by a hundred or so fans. Our Athletic Department is, and has been, underfunded as long as I can remember, and adding a baseball program will just be a financial drain. Just an old man's opinion.
  6. This decision was made by Alabama's BOR, and will not be reversed. They have been trying to kill UAB's football program since its inception and have done it. Looks like the Blazer's president is belatedly trying to cover his ass, ane reaffirm the dropping of football. What CUSA will probably have to decide is whether or not to leave UAB in the conference, and find someone like New Mexico State or Army for football only. This could give us a western division of NMSU,UTEP[who will probably oppose the Aggies entrance],UNT,Rice,UTSA,La.Tech, and one or two schools who belong in the eastern division but must go west.I think Army likes playing an independent schedule, as they were once in CUSA and pulled out.
  7. Unless Earnie writes the check, we don't have the money to buy him out. On a related note, what's going on with the Women's BB program?
  8. I don't like playing our Texas opponents and the 2 Florida Schools either all at home or all on the road. This is a CUSA issue, not RV, and needs to be corrected. The reason we don't play Texas State in football or UTA in basketball is because we can't beat either one.
  9. Any idea on whether La. Tech would block ULL admittance? If not, lets just go to 16, add A-State and Ga. So. and be done with it.
  10. FYI, the Bison's have won FOUR 1aa national championships in a row while loosing only THREE games during that period. That is amazing college football at any level.
  11. I have a 50's/60's style with a green "NT" on white mini-helmet that I didn't see in UNT 90's collection. Let me know if you want it.
  12. It's hard to control cost in education when you build an unneeded school of law.
  13. My fear is that Rick Perry will make an example out of us. On another note, all of us have worked under budget restraints, whether personally or professionally. What part of "we don't have the money" is hard to accept? Just asking.
  14. Rick, I did not call you a liar. I am not talking about coaches who wanted to come here, and didn't get hired, nor assistant coaches who went on to be head coaches else where such as Snyder. I am ONLY referring to head men's football and basketball coaches we hired and fired since Coach Mitchell retired back in the day, and in the past 50 years of that number only 3 were not fired and moved on to a better job. This post has turned into a "fire both men's head coaches format" which only proves my point. Over and out.
  15. Rick, a lot of examples for 54 years. Love you, but surely you jest.No way Harbaugh wanted the job, and Leavitt had just been fired at USF for physically abusing players.Being a head coach at UNT is not as attractive an opportunity as we would like to think.Personally I would replace the head coaches of men' football and basketball which just reinforces my opinion that we are a coaching graveyard. I don't care about women's basketball and neither does anyone else. When you count your attendance in 100's from a 36,000 student base then you really have apathy.Regarding men's basketball, we only averaged 3,000+ when J.J, was winning, which doesn't make us much of a round ball hot bed.Our football team has not averaged 20,000+ in our new stadium, which is probably only a few thousand more that we averaged at Fouts. As I said, hiring a head coach for our major programs is not as easy as it would seem. However, having said that we certainly need to do a better job. On that point I think we can all agree.
  16. Rick, the people that you "think" wanted our job don't count as they didn't get hired for one reason or the other. I'm talking reality, not speculation or by guess and by golly. In the past 54 years only 4 head coaches have left North Texas for another head coaching position, and to my knowledge no athletic director unless you count Hayden Fry who was booth coach and A.D. If that's not a grave yard, I have some land in Louisiana that gets wet about twice a year I would like to show you.
  17. My benchmark is the University of Houston. I don't see why we can't be as good as them in all sports. However, if I were to grade R.V. only on his hires, he is 1 for 2 in football[assuming coach Mac was a good hire, which is suspect], 1 for 2 in men's basketball[i never would have hired an assistant coach from anywhere], and 1 for 3 in women's basketball[but who really cares?].Overall he is 3 for 7 [or about 40%] which is a good batting average in baseball and in the business world. I look at North Texas as a coaching grave yard.Since my freshman year of 1961 only 2 football coaches,1 men's basketball coach and 1 women's basketball coach has used us as a stepping stone to greener pastures[i have slept since then, so I might have missed someone]. This tells me that a head coaching job in these 3 sports is not a desired job nor an easy sell to prospective candidates.I don't see anyone breaking down the doors to coach here, and until our perception in the coaching community changes our pool of prospects will be very limited and hiring results hit or miss. Just an old man's opinion.
  18. Having a very bad bottom half of your conference hurts their better teams because of strength of schedule..Even before Marshall lost to W.K. they were ranked behind Boise State.
  19. Surely you jest. Look at the number of teams we had in bottom 25 at years end. I would put us behind MWC and AAC, ahead of Sun Belt, and maybe even with the MAC. Bowl games have little to do with overall strength of a conference as mush as the bottom dwellers do.
  20. Grand Canyon, which I assume is in Arizona, beat New Mexico last night, which certainly is a bigger upset than our loss to Prairie View. S---t happens it athletics.
  21. I am happy for Darrell and his family. Firefighting Rick is right. He has changed his offense because the game has changed, plus having a head coach from TCU doesn't hurt.
  22. At any rate, wishing all of you and yours a Green and White Christmas.I am going to enjoy all[well, maybe most] of the 36 bowl games and look forward to attending another one that the Eagles play in before I die.Blessings!
  23. We are in violent agreement. However, I thing when we did the coaches contract was short term and there was as much money involved. Regarding changes, this board has so many posts about firing the AD and both men's head coaches that I can't keep up with who said what. I apologize if I painted you with a broad brush.
