  1. HUH? I think others, along with myself, have seen MANY more exciting plays than watching a lineman rumble to the endzone with his fumble recovery. Give the guy credit, he's was/is a fantastic player (first SBC player to be drafted in first round), but here are a few plays I'm thinking of off the top of my head: -Quin's miracle catch against, I think, Ark St that made ESPN -Several J. Thomas runs last year that involved dancing circles around defenders, 40+ yards, and NOT a straight line from point A to B -First UNT play from scrimmage, OU '01...i think it was J Branch that caught a 31 yard screen from Hall -the last two UNT/MTSU games had some GREAT catches, including K. Wright's...man I'm glad he's gone. -How bout B.K.'s rumble towards the endzone against NMSU I think? Anyone want to add more?
  2. While I hope the SBC gets another bow-tie in, I hope it's not a result of creating a new bowl; rather, I'd like to see WW grab a slot vacated by way of another bowl's contract. just my opinion. -gm
  3. Aren't the "numbers that matter", according to what you just said, what the Sagarin Ratings use? If not, maybe someone call tell us what it DOES use? Sagarin seems to be fairly credible, and they have us (SBC) ahead of the MAC.
  4. Good grief, I've never seen a qb situation dissected to the point that we have taken this. I'm sitting back in my easy chair knowing a) we have a coach who has taken this team through other tough times we have TWO national rushing champions in our backfield c) Lineberry is back to give us a good o-line (a nice compliment for d) The secondary (according to witnesses on this board) looked MUCH improved in spring, and d) as Dan Hawkins says "Tradition never dies"
  5. How do you pronounce that guy's name?
  6. FAU's wins over us, MTSU, and Hawaii last season are not the reason they're getting this TV exposure... ...neither is attendance. As stated earlier, FAU had trouble averaging 10K; I guess Waters isn't concerned about how bad they might look playing on TV with those kind of numbers. Coach Howie is the reason for their TV deal, nothing more to it than that. -gm PS: I don't think FAU's 20-13 win over us with the go-ahead at :29 left in the game defines a "drubbing"...just my opinion
  7. I have this hunch in the back of my mind that they probably tried to get a home/home series for the contract, and failed. Guess it's okay, since they have SEVEN tv appearances this coming season, including FOUR of their Belt matchups (more than anyone else), as rookie conference members. link Yeah, the tv package is unrelated. I'm just a little upset about it I'm not asking for favoritism as 3-time conference champions, but I DO find it a little odd that the FAU vs. UNT game is NOT televised. Seems an even HIGHER priority to Waters to keep us OFF the air as much as possible? If FAU provides for such an appealing TV product, wouldn't the FAU game with the defending champs and last two national rushing leaders provide even more juicy goods to show off to the world? apparently not <_< Waters has been so great for the Belt and it's growth. This seems (insert Big Lebowski reference NOW) out of his element. Like a child that wonders into the middle of a movie... -gm
  8. Are you serious? It's got to be one of the most quoted SNL skits ever. You can find it on the Best of Will Ferrel on SNL 2 collection. Right up there with Mike Meyers "Hyper-Hypo" and Christopher Walken's "More Cowbell" in my book.
  9. I stand corrected: I meant top-10. I haven't heard of the Minn/USF backs...I'll keep an eye out on them. -gm
  10. Forget about his season stats that "come from our system": there's 3 things Jamario does that gets me: !) nearly 250 yards against Colorado. Have we forgotten that they came into that game with a top-5 rushing D? 2) Anyone else notice that at the beginning of every one of Jamario's games last season, he busted a 40+ yarder on one of the first two series? That says something to me. I would guess, including Colorado, they had NO CLUE a player of that caliber and speed would need to be accounted for. 3) I'm going to take off my green-tinted goggles for a sec: I don't have the video to review, but I seem to recall the USM front 7 pretty much destroying our offense in last years NO Bowl. I honestly think Jamario's 96 yards in that game were just as impressive as a couple of his 200+ yard games earlier in the season. I couldn't believe the balance he showed on a couple of those runs. Am I alone thinking these things? Whether or not he's top 5 on that list, I think it's ridiculous that neither Cobbs nor Thomas made top 25. -gm
  11. I ran into JQ at a Subway in the middle of a rice field in south-eastern China (It's TRUE, I SWEAR): he says that the athletic department has declared on its website only to him that Booger is academically ineligible to be less than 349 lbs. While swimming across the Pacific, he stopped in Maui to hand the ball off to Cobbs on a reverse. The next day he was found back in Denton on time for summer workouts with the team. He's THAT FAST
  12. I feel bad for them: how sad is it that it is in the 5th year of the Belt that they finally get that home-field advantage?
  13. hah! that made me chuckle a little.... how 'bout the '85 Bear's 4-6? I know it's unrealistic to change your base set in two week's time but, HEY, it's a forum! We can speculate what would bring our best athletes onto the field.
  14. Why post this if you're not going to elaborate?
  15. Comparing Ron's speed to Jamario's is oranges and apples. Ron Dayne was fast, but it took him 10 yards to get his bowling ball-self rolling. What Jamario can do in 10 yards leaves 3 defenders in the dust and 20K fans gasping in awe. -gm
  16. Scooby Doo was just never the same with that cocky dog running around at their feet.
  17. Phil Steele crams so much info onto their pages (nvm the small type), that I wonder how long it takes for him to cycle through all 119 (? is that the correct #?) D-1 teams before he gets back to #1. Who's to say how long ago it was that he last evaluated UNT? He's got some kind of formula that helps him predict titles/championships on conference and national levels at an admirable success rate, but sometimes I question if there are holes in it that make for these "interesting" evaluations. I got the mag this year, and I think this may be the last. -gm
  18. I know that professors that teach members of the women's v-ball team receive requests to submit academic progress reports to the athletic department (can't remember the name of the person that signs off the cover letter to these requests) so that they can better keep tabs with their grades....thus: eligibility status. I have no clue if this process is followed for other student-athletes, but I can't fathom DD and his staff choosing not to follow the same steps to ensure they know their players' status. -gm
  19. I think a bigger problem will be how his I'm-bigger-than-the-world attitude affects the chemistry of the program. nothing can destroy a team like a big mouth...especially his. -gm
  20. Not very often that BOTH rb positions on a publications all-conference team come from the same backfield. Not even USC's RB behind Bush (Lendale White, I think) occupies their all Pac-10 team next to Reggie. Good to be Green. -gm
  21. Ramon Flanigan? Please! how bout someone on the INSIDE for once? These sources are getting vaguer and vaguer by the day! Next thing you know someone will be quoting JQ!
  22. I can't confirm with my sources: they became academically ineligible.
