  1. Another big guy we almost landed. *sigh* The perpetual "what if's" of the NT fan.
  2. I guess you forgot about the time we played Maryland a few years ago when they beat us by about 50. Actually...I think it was over 60.
  3. The Heat won Emmitt. They ween't handed the crown by a league who decided they should have it.
  4. I've watched most of all the games. Maybe because I'm not really a fan of either team, but I think it's been a highly entertaining series. More bad breaks have gone against the Mavericks, but I don't think it's nearly as lopsided as been made out to be. The two teams are very evenly matched. I think Dallas wins the last 2 at home.
  5. I hadn't really read this thread until Emmitt alerted me to it this afternoon on the phone. I am very far removed(several states), but that may give me more perspective. First off to the current Talons. I wish I knew yall. I only get back to TX about once a year these days, and last year I wasn't able to swing by the Talons meeting(and the previous was for Emmitt's wedding). I was looking forward to meeting the current membership and seeing what makes yall tick. I've heard alot of bad stories, but also some good things. But I tend to throw all of that out and make up my own mind. I do know that EJ tends to exaggerate at times. Should yall do more? I have no doubt. And I say that because I know that during my time in Talons we didn't do half the stuff I dreamed of. Emmitt and I used to talk long into the night about things we could do with Talons. Some were accomplished, but a great many were not. If I could go backand redo my Talons years I would undoubtedly try harder to get my pet projects off the ground(like my Tradition markers, which I'm sure maybe 2 people other than myself even remember). I would urge you to listen to the alumni, because we aren't just a bunch of blowhards. Yeah, some of the stories of things we did might be embellished a bit, but with expereince comes wisom. There are a great many of us that would love to help you. Will we be critical? Yes. But you have to realize that some of the alumni were damn critical of us in our years. I remember one Bonfire in particular where EJ and I almost came to blows with some of the "Old Guard" from then. It happens. Those that have been there before are always going to think they can do a better job, because they know the pitfalls, etc. that can be avoided. There were semesters where apathy was prevalent in Talons during my years too...especially in the Spring. If we complain too much at times it's not just because we think we're "better than you", it might also be because we don't want yall to make some of the mistakes that we did. ***That still doesn't excuse you taking away Alumni voting rights. I couldn't believe that when EJ told me a year or so ago.
  6. I'm not sure if they really could make money. Rent is supposedly gonna be 3-4 times as much and the owners of the Tomato said they couldn't afford it going from one of the news articles(I don't remember if it was the DRC or NTD).
  7. More than anything that's what I'd miss whenever I come back to the litte D. It was a yearly tradition to stop in there, have a slice, and reflect on my college years.
  8. Not to mention USC is in the middle of a pretty seedy area of downtown Los Angeles. It's sort of an island surrounded by scuz. (Though this area, and most of dowtown, is going thru a revival) UCLA on the other hand is bordered by a pretty fancy shopping district. Much of I doubt many college kids could afford. I guess we could have something in between.
  9. I was a Film Major. Not many people went to more athletic events than me when I was in school. Don't give me all the "Artistic" majors don't care about athletics.
  10. It will be a sad day indeed to go back to a cookie cutter Fry Street. There CAN be buisness without that crap. Los Angeles has its share of huge chains, but there are tons of Mom & Pop stores all over the place. If I can I seek them out whenever possible. I even support local or regional chains(example In-N-Out Burger) over the monolithic entities. I believe there are only 2 Wal-Marts within the entire city for example, Next time I'm back I'll miss the Tomato, and half a dozen other places in that corridor. God help me if I read that Voertman's is shutting down....
  11. I'm glad I went to the Tomato last time I was in town....since it is about to be torn down.
  12. Before the LA Memorial Colesium got rennovated in the mid 90's(track taken out, field lowered, etc) apparently the lower level seats were similarly bad. And if you were in the endzones you might have been even further away than Fouts. So my SC contacts tell me.
  13. Well, the preseason WNIT bid is cool.
  14. Haven't really watched much of the NBA playoffs this year(I'm more of a college guy) but things are looking up for the Mavs based on what I've seen. I don't think the Spurs are as well rounded as they have been in the past for one(Duncan is the only one really stepping up), and stealing Game 2 was naturally a must. Dallas has been pretty good at home and I think they'll need that to continue. SA is always dangerous on the road.
  15. My first one that I recall was actually a basketball game. I believe it was 1988(maybe '89?) and we played SMU. I know we lost whatever the case. I think we jacked up about 40 three's. How things have changed. The first NT football game I vividly remember going to was during Mitch Maher's tenure, in '94. I had just taken the SAT and went to Fouts right afterwards. Actually I think it was the Montana game mentioned earlier. There was a huge crowd, at least 20K. And Maher had a chance to win the game on the final play but the pass went incomplete. I know my folks probably took me to a game or two when I was really young, but I can't recall any.
  16. Nah, UCLA has more Championship tradition than Duke and Connecticut put together. Too bad they lost to Florida tonight. But congratulations to the Gators. A well deserved Championship.
  17. I don't agree at all. Unfair advantage?? Most D1 schools without a football team are in second tier conferences.
  18. Win the NIT. I agree with MeanGreenBuzz, South Carolina most likely would have won a game if they'd snuck in. They defeated Florida twice this season.
  19. I could only find 26 states on my $5 bill.
  20. I don't think you can fire Coach Slinker after winning the regular season division title. That bought her a year for me. But if she's .500 or under next season it's time for her to go. JJ hit that this season IMHO.
  21. With this team there's no excuse getting blown out to ASU with this much on the line.
  22. I was really on Jones's bandwagon. But even I think it's time to let him go.
  23. Or the women's team.
