Great article. My folks are both alumns. I remember them both(but Mom especially) talking about the Blakely years and everything when I was a kid. We got ESPN around the time we went in '88 but I don't beklieve we had it installed yet, cause neither recall watching the game. I watched it at the CLC at 1st Baptist Church in Dennton. I was like 9 year old. ANYWAYS Mom was so excited that we made it this year, but they aren't carrying the game in Phoenix(my folks moved about 10 years ago). They don't have high speed so the March madness on Demand was outta the question. So she hunted around & found a local sports bar that's gonna open up just for her so she can wactch the game in Phoenix.

Are they gonna make a commemorative DVD for the season? Because I'd buy it(and try and include those DMN diaries).

It's huge. If we win today though, I'd say it's bigger than the NO Bowl win(that's still the crowning achievement) because we would get mentioned almost every year by CBS everytime they talk about upsets. 1991 #15 seed Richmond over No. 2 Syracuse. 1993 #15 seed Santa Clara over No. 2 Arizona. 1997 #15 seed Coppin State over No. 2 South Carolina(then they almost beat UT in the 2nd round). 2001 #15 seed Hampton defeating No. 2 Iowa State. It can be done.

Eleven hours and counting guys. As is typical for me, my rational side is starting to give way the closer we get to the game. I know we won't win...but I'm starting to think we will anyways.

I think it's a bit of both. If we were playing a 4 seed - I'd like our chances if we played that perfect kinda game. This team has ALOT of potential. However, against top seeds(1,2 &3's) you need to play lights out, and they need to be off. That's why I'm still predicting us to lose by 17 or so.

No, their RPI was in the 20's. That's why they got a 6 seed.

This wasn't an upset if you've watched college basketball much this year. The Blue Devils were young, inconsistent, with no real "star". They also finished tied for 6th in the ACC. VCU plays in the CAA, one of the strongest Mid Major leagues. Remember George Mason? I had Duke winning, but that was a tossup game.

No 23 is the school record. Two of Blakely's teams has 22 wins. That was the high water mark.

The LA Group obviously won't be meeting with the 9:30 tip time. I'll be watching it, but most everyone will be at work. We are suppossed to meet tonight for a Happy Hour to get ourselves excited for the game on Friday/get more organized in general though. That was what we decided to do as a surrogate watching party.

College football will never be as special to me, even with a playoff. I love the first 2 days of the tournament, but I actually think my favorite round is the Elite 8 for some reason. Unless a school I really like is playing at the end. But I love the whole tournament.
