  1. No way it stays as parking. They'll use that land at some point. It's too valuable. But surface parking is cheap to build and they definitely need parking for the time being.
  2. Yep and we should embrace it. It means we are winning! I still say Seth returns next year but is gone after posting back to back 10 wins seasons.
  3. If Snyder actually retires (and that's a BIG if) and if they don't hire his son (much smaller if), I think Kansas State will look to keep it in the KSU family. The last time they didn't was a colossal disaster (Ron Prince). My guess is Kansas State will focus on Brent Venerables and Jim Leavitt. They can't afford for this Snyder deal to be ugly and divide their fan base. With Kansas prepared to double down on football, KSU will need everyone on the same page. An "in the family" hire will do that.
  4. Doing some google research, it looks Affinity is ran by the guys that created Licensing Resource Group (LRG). I work in retail so I have little knowledge on this. LTG sold to Learfield and that is what is now known as Learfield Licensing. https://www.learfield.com/2014/06/learfield-sports-to-acquire-licensing-resource-group-lrg/ Learfield Licensing has a pretty robust group of clients https://learfieldlicensing.com/clients/ Usually after an acquisition, there's a 2-3 year non-compete. Maybe that has expired. But no doubt the people leading Affinity have experience even if the company is new. My gut says this is a good move. You have really experienced guys leading a company that we are a big fish with. Time will tell. As a consumer, all we care about is selection and availability. So that's how I'll be measuring although I do like when the ole alma mater gets a bigger cut of the pie.
  5. I think the goal is to move upward. I don't see UNT leapfrogging the two AAC schools in Texas for Big 12 from CUSA. If you look at TCU, they went WAC to MWC to Big East to Big 12. For this reason, I'd take MWC or AAC invite if offered.
  6. We've been spoiled really the last three years with really good NT Daily writers. In fact, they've all gotten jobs at reputable places. The writers this year are terrible. Terrible in style, creativity and writing facts. It's drastic how far it fell off the cliff. The past two seasons, some of the best stuff I read on UNT sports was from the Daily. This year, I find myself scratching my head at every article.
  7. I agree with part of this. I think what you are saying applies for a good job. I don't think it applies for any job. For instance, I know you think there's a chance he takes Kansas. I'd wager whatever I could scratch up that doesn't happen. But if a job opens up that's a middle of it's league or higher power 5 job, I think he takes it. Sadly, right now G5 programs have ZERO shot at a natty. And all coaches (I assume) want a shot at a natty. For the most part, the lower end P5 schools also pay the lowest amount. So KU for instance, currently pays $2 million. I think Seth stays here for even a modest raise (maybe $1.75 million) vs a KU offer of $2-$3 million. Now if TCU was open and offered $3-$4 million, he's gone. TCU has demonstrated they can compete nationally and the money is double. He's gone in my opinion. Switching leagues, I don't think there's any way he takes Rutgers. But Illinois if they pay him enough and his assistants enough, they might have a chance. So I think it is smart to be aggressive. But I agree that $2 million should be the absolute max. Anything beyond that is overpaying when it isn't going to ward off the good jobs. In other words, if his performance is good enough to warrant that kind of $$$ then he's done well enough to get one of the jobs I think he would take. Pay him $1.75 million (in line with highest G5s) and put the rest in the assistants pool or facilities or other sports who desperately need it. Last thing, I would assume the more we pay him the higher his buyout is. So maybe we get some of that $$$ back?
  8. Our students were extremely disappointing today. Probably 5-6k came in the stadium. But there were at least another 2-3k that stayed on the hill tailgating. Ridiculous to be right there and not come to the game. If the normal 10k or so show up we are in the same range as the La Tech and SMU crowd.
  9. Then why did they even need the study! There's a 0.0% chance they could fund it that way. No other non power 5 program comes close. Only 1/3 of power 5 programs come close. I swear they're lost over there. Firing Scott Cross proved it.
  10. As a general rule I agree with you. But he's been particularly adamant that he knows best on this issue. Its rinse, repeat over and over. At some point, let it go. You disagree with our AD and coach, fine. Stating your opinion definitively as facts when you have no experience while basically disagreeing and demeaning athletic officials (at every turn on every issue) is old. And you'll notice the previous post he uses to justify this opinion was full of errors. But I get what you're saying.
  11. Let me help finish this sentence for you. I agree. As physically tough of a game it may be, it's not a series you just walk away from. Play the series out and be done with it. It's a marquee game for fans that as proven gets excitement up and butts in seats in my opinion with my zero total years experience playing, coaching or administrating college football.
  12. 1. We've had 5 of the top 7 crowds in Apogee history this season and last. Hardly can credit "Army" for that. 2. No it's not. Army plays games all the time that aren't on major linear channels. Both Cal and Houston who replaced Army are in conferences with better TV packages. 3. Not to disparage an Academy but no it doesn't. Army has a all time win percentage of .567. For point of reference UNT has one of .502. 4. Hard to quantify. I don't recall any national press when we beat Army. I remember it makings lots of local news because we were a big underdog. As to your last comment. I do agree the Army brand is as strong or stronger than any conference brand. Not because of athletics history but because of general patriotism and appreciation for our service men and women.
  13. I think homecoming is always afternoon which makes sense IMO. Maybe the right question is why is homecoming on the Day of the Dead? I think University decides on HC date. It is clunky because we had 4 of our six home games happened pretty early in the season.
  14. The only thing even about this post that isn't insanely dumb, is that at least 27 of the 32 who voted on realize how dumb it is. Good grief.
  15. A great example. Coaches who think they can do it anywhere aren't very smart in my opinion. UNT had no tradition but has so much else to work with. Great location, good facilities, money (by G5/CUSA standards), and a progressive administration that has big athletic aspirations. Despite our history in CUSA, I'd say UNT is for sure a top 4 CUSA job. Take Kansas as example. No facilities, no money (by Big 12 standards), who knows on administration or aspirations. Kansas is for sure a bottom 3 Big 12 (along with KSU and Iowa State). Getting it going at UNT is a whole different deal than getting it going at Kansas. PJ Fleck could have held on and waited for a good job. Instead, he got caught thinking he was a miracle worker and could take Minnesota and compete in the Big 10. Ain't happening.
  16. I think some of that can be attributable to the need to balance classes as well. When a new coach comes in and dismisses players or the players leave if you bring all of the new guys in the same class you are creating a bubble in the system that is tough. We have that a little bit with our junior class now.
  17. I like the early kick but I don’t have kids in activities. I can get home before it’s ungodly late and dark. But if we can avoid anything later than 7 I’m good.
  18. Very true. What WB said wasn’t even negative really. But there’s certainly a divide among fans on if the crowd should be criticized or not. My guess is it may be somewhat generational. Anyone 45+ is probably fine. Fans 25-40 maybe more sensitive because they came from a time when criticsm was often withheld and everyone got a blue ribbon. In my book, it’s okay to give honest feedback and (gasp) criticsm if it’s deserved. And before anyone cries foul, research has shown employers have a hard time finding employees that can taken criticsm in today’s generation. Regardless, we need all fans. So how about we all show up for homecoming and take the rain shaming frustrations out on Rice.
  19. Do you read the other posts Ben? Or are you too busy admiring your own. Several posters verified he stands on the sideline every game. He’s right in front of my seat for the most part. Criticize for the tweet if you’d like but saying the point isn’t fair because he’s in some kind of an ivory tower is ridiculous and untrue. Maybe you can go back to firing all our defensive coaches you hated so much last year. Never mind, it’s the offensive coaches this year.
  20. Pretty much what the point I wanted to make but did a much worse job making it. Agree totally.
  21. I get your point. I don't agree but I do get what you're saying. At the same time, if you read what Baker said (not what Vito wrote), he really isn't that negative. It is more about encouraging everyone to show up for Rice. And what he says is true, championship programs do have great attendance regardless of weather. Setting that as the bar doesn't bother me. He should set a vision of what the program's goals is.
  22. Baker does usually tweet something positive after every good crowd as well and has this season. If you watch Litrell post game presser, I got the sense he was pissed about the crowd. He kind of sarcastically thanks the fans "that showed up." I wonder if Baker's message wasn't just as much a show of support for Littrell and the players.
  23. This is one of the all time ridiculous posts. I'm at every home game and watch every road game (despite the difficulty of having all the outlets). I sit on the south 35 yard line. Baker is on the sidelines every game. Was there yesterday with associate AD Mosely. When I watch the road games including Liberty (in an epic downpour) he's there. Disagree with his statement if you want but to act like he isn't out there is false.
  24. That's a 60k plus seat stadium. Just got home and watching it as well. They probably have 3 times what we did today.
