  1. I think there are two sides to this. WB isn't a skilled orator (think Joel Osteen, Tony Robbins, etc). But I feel like he does a really good job of taking difficult questions and giving thoughtful, skillful and most importantly honest answers. Comes off as genuine as opposed to "coach speak" type answers. I've also been to a couple of the caravans and he was good at those in my opinion.
  2. Check first of this episode https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qGfVGUStJG0 And then check last two minutes I’d this one https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=adrNOOAbQcU
  3. I think there is some confusion. WB gets emotional when discussing fan Steven Pettit. Steven is a huge fan who is battling stage IV cancer. Young man with kids. There was a story a few weeks ago on beyond the green. I think Stevens I’m here. He lists the team as an inspiration. Sounds like Vito asked WB about it
  4. That's I read it. And for what it's worth, had UNT went to First Responders then Marshall would have been in New Mexico again. Can't imagine that would have went well in Huntington.
  5. https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2017/12/15/16758404/espn-bowls-college-football-playoffs ESPN makes the decision! They own almost all of them. And they have huge contracts with the P5 leagues. And P5 likes to match up with P5
  6. I understand. But the best "name" opponent CUSA drew was South Florida. At least we got a ranked team.
  7. Apparently. La Tech hasn't been in the independence bowl since 2008
  8. And some of the primary "bitchers" literally said last year that they hated going to NOLA vs Troy. And the NM bowl vs colorado state would have been so much better. The very same people are on here complaining about the NM bowl this year. If you want the power to select "your" bowl, a fan can do that. There will be plenty of tickets available at the DFW bowls for fans that don't wish to travel.
  9. CUSA didn't have a team in either one. And it appears the bowls aren't selecting based primarily on putting teams where they will sell the most tickets. With ESPN controlling over half the bowls now, I think the selection criteria has changed. The #1 thing is matchups that are compelling for TV. Two programs that historically aren't very good that had really strong seasons playing is what I'm guessing led to the matchup. If ESPN cared that North Texas "will sell more tickets" in a DFW bowl, we'd be in one
  10. No doubt but that's not exactly a great selling point for a passionate fan base. I'm sure every team could get a good turnout for a bowl game within 30 mile sof campus
  11. I think it was either/or. We were never guaranteed Dallas. This is from CUSA bowl page. http://conferenceusa.com/sports/2016/7/1/sports-m-footbl-spec-rel-bowl-partners-15-html.aspx C-USA BOWL 2018 SYNOPSISConference USA has secured guaranteed commitments for six bowl spots for the 2018 season, as well as maintaining two secondary agreements. The Bahamas, Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton, Hawai’i, New Mexico, and R+L Carriers New Orleans bowls are joined by a spot in either the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla (Tampa Bay) and Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowls as the primary agreements. The Frisco Bowl in Frisco, Texas and the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., (should the ACC or SEC not be able to provide a bowl-eligible team) serve as secondary bowls. There is no set selection order among C-USA’s bowl partners.
  12. Doubtful. Following the other CUSA schools, they don't announce until bowl releases first.
  13. LOL. No doubt!!! What do people want or think? Southern Miss got left out! ESPN and the other conferences don't say well shit boys, let's wait until North Texas decides what they want. Here's what we got in CUSA NM Bowl - UNT vs Utah State Boca Bowl - UAB vs NIU NO Bowl - MTSU vs App State Gasparilla Bowl - Marshall vs South Florida Bahamas Bowl - FIU vs Toledo Hawaii Bowl - La Tech vs Hawaii So let's analyze. UNT avoids Bahamas for 3rd straight year. Also avoids Hawaii where no one could travel and they'd have to play the home team. NO was off the table since we went last year and MTSU preferred that bowl. UAB got to express a "1st preference" as champ so Boca was off the table. So that left with NM Bowl or Gasparilla Bowl. I'm sure our team would have loved to go to Tampa. But Marshall was shipped to NM Bowl last year so know way CUSA was doing that in back to back years. I swear some of you are delusional when it comes to how these things work.
  14. I love Seth Littrell. Hope he stays here. Maybe it's wishful thinking but I still don't understand how he could be hired in front of Neal Brown. Let's lay it out. Coach A Age 38 # of Seasons – 4 Record – 34-16 Conference Record -23-9 Record 3 seasons prior to taking over – 14-22 (no bowls) Bowl record – 2-0 Conference championships – 1 Division championships – 2 Conference coach of year awards – 1 Road Record – 15-10 overall, 13-6 vs Group of 5 Power 5 wins: Nebraska (2018), LSU (2017) Current Salary: $810,000 Buyout: $300,000 Coach B Age 40 # of Seasons – 3 Record – 23-16 Conference Record -15-9 Record 3 seasons prior to taking over – 14-23 (1 bowl) Bowl record – 0-2 Conference championships – 0 Division championships – 1 Conference coach of year awards – 0 Road Record – 9-10, 8-8 vs Group of 5 Power 5 wins: Arkansas (2018), Current Salary: $1.4 million Buyout: $1.7 million
  15. Why not? If you were a 19, 20 year old QB and read a "report" wouldn't you? I'm following Gene Taylor the KSU AD and I don't know shit for sure.
  16. Exactly. People who are acting like we can greatly increase his buyout don't understand negotiation. Seth already has a higher buyout than Matt Wells, Neal Brown, Brian Harsin, etc. That's probably been helpful in his retention. He makes more than most of those guys too. But Seth ain't going to agree to some ridiculous buyout unless it was a contract that paid him ridiculous pay. Do people understand he has an agent (and a well known one at that) that does this for a living?
  17. Agree. I honestly feel UNT has went from the outhouse to the penthouse. It's almost uncomprehendable to say this, but I truly feel this is the best job in CUSA. I wish someone would anonymously survey CUSA coaches.
  18. No. The same message board has kept perpetuating the rumor. And Vito lazily just picks up random stories and regurgitates it to drive his twitter and clicks. Seth may very well end up a candidate. He may very well get offered and take the job. But I highly doubt he's K-State's sole focus. Venerables is a grad. Jim Leavitt is a grad and once was there as the heir apparent. Neal Brown is and Satterfield are both still on the market. This is a message board creating "premium" content to get subscribers. Put it this way, you think Wren and Smatresk would call in Brune or Vito and say here's what we are going to do? No. The circle of people in the know on these are incredibly small. All year we heard if Kliff is fired, Seth is the guy at Tech. People on here said their baby's momma's daddy was best friends with someone on the Tech regents who said Seth's the guy. Turns out, that wasn't true. I agree with WB, chill out!!
  19. Their game with Utah was televised because it was at Utah and Pac 12 inventory. That had nothing to do with BYU. However, they do have their own TV contract I've seen estimated at $4 million. No where near P5 deals but yeah, better than CUSA. Here's the truth, independence works for national brands only. UMASS, New Mexico State and Liberty all desperately want in a conference. No one will take them. They aren't independent by choice. Notre Dame is a huge national brand. Catholics all over the US tune in. They are able to be in a Power conference in other sports so it's a no brainer. Important to note they do have an ACC footballs scheduling alliance. They play 6 ACC games annually if I remember correctly. The ACC owns the rights to the games on their conferences. Notre Dame owns their home games. Army is in the middle. They are a national brand. It's the Army for heaven sakes. But it isn't that profitable and causes scheduling issues and their other sports aren't in a great spot. Which is why Navy left independence and joined the AAC. Air Force is in the MWC. You get guaranteed schedules, revenue, etc. I think Army has flirted at times with joining CUSA. BYU went indy basically out of spite and bitterness because their ego was hurt when Utah got the almight Power 5 bid. Maybe it was a good strategy long term but that remains to be seen. I guarantee you they have days when they wonder if it was the right move. It was be catastrophic for UNT to go independent. Any argument otherwise isn't rooted in logic. Put it this way, not a single team that's moved to P5 did so from "indepedence" Our FB schedule would be decimated. We simply aren't enough a TV draw for Power 5 conferences (or the American) or any other conference to regularly interrupt their conference schedule to insert us in the back end. Wanna know how bad it is to be independent? NMSU and Liberty played each other twice to have a schedule.
  20. It worked for me too. Are you using a phone? I've had problem on my phone before. Never had a problem when using computer.
  21. I would think they are. However, I don't think Seth has more to prove to get a Power 5 job. But in these two cases, SL looked a lot like Kliff (young air raid coach whose defenses haven't been great) and was Fedora's guy. Both probably hurt his chances at the respective schools. I also think UNC was only able to afford to make a chance because they hired Mack who is wildly popular there. That's probably helped raise the dollars to pay Fedora.
  22. What are you talking about? If there was a power 5 formula, everyone would be doing it. Tell me what more UCF could do? They haven't sniffed the power 5. Our only focus should be building the program the right way. Competing for CUSA championships, becoming nationally relevant by participating (and winning) in postseason, staying out of NCAA trouble and keeping up grad rates. University academic rankings and reputation are another area to focus on. You act as if we are missing the boat but offer no clarification on how. As an old timer, we've made more progress in the last 3 years than we the previous 20.
  23. I'm generally positive about Vito. I don't think he does great in depth analysis but he cranks out a ton of information and has been the only outlet consistently covering the teams. But this was beyond ridiculous. It's such an out of blue hypothetical. It's like asking someone ever think of changing jobs? Of course he has dipshit. So has every player on every team across the country. When you have a bad day at the office, it's human nature to think wonder what it would be like to start over somewhere else, change my surroundings, etc. To ask a kid this as a passing question at the end of a press conference during his season is totally out of line in my opinion. I also think Mason could have answered it differently but I think Mason was doing what he was taught to do all his life. Being honest. Yes he's thought about it. Probably more than once. But not with any seriousness. Ever get in a fight with your girlfriend and think about moving on? Of course. The problem here is Vito asked a question that was ridiculous to pose to a kid that's been taught to be more honest than political in his answers. Hopefully, everyone moves on from this. But if I'm Seth, I'm pissed. This has caused an unnecessary distraction. And people wonder why some head coaches don't allow their kids or assistants to talk to the media. The fans pay the price for the lack of access but crap likes this is why head coaches do it.
  24. I love Seth. Hope he stays forever. But serious question here, why hire Seth over Neal Brown?
