What? Sonny Dykes, Hugh Freeze, Lane Kiffin, Gus Malzhan are recent ones that come to mind. You can't scratch a candidate off your list because another HC with a similar path didn't work out somewhere. Head Coaches get fired for all sorts of reasons...

Can't snap the ball until the ref steps away from the ball and into position so what was the offense supposed to do?

They fell apart because they started playing teams with decent offenses and decent defenses. They were blown out by 41 and 20 the past two weeks with Jalon Daniels back.

I was thinking to myself "that sounds horrible, it's our D's weakness." Then I realized it doesn't matter what the opposing offense does, whatever it is will still be exploiting our D's weakness.

No. Bad execution, like I said. Decision making is what you'd see most other teams do with 72 seconds left in the half but the execution was horrible. That's a separate issue.

Turned the tide for sure. I agree it shouldn't but it appears it did. UTSA didn't call a time-out after the first down run but after the second down incomplete pass, I think they realized they good get the ball back with plenty of time and called that time-out after the 3rd down run. That second down pass going for all 15 was a killer. Got to get it in chunks.

You didn't read my original post. The BS delay of game caused by the ref not moving off the ball is what changed the playcalling and threw the drive off. Regardless, it's a championship game. You can't be content with a 7 point deficit heading into halftime with 72 seconds on the clock. It's too much time to just burn. Had the delay of game not been called, the result probably would have been different. And a team we haven't stopped yet but stopped on 4th and goal. Ok.

Well said. Some of these posters saying just take it to half time is looser mentality. The decisions made were the right ones. Execution was just horrible. You don't burn 1:12 at the end of the half down 7 and just head into half-time.

Y'all must not watch much football outside UNT games. It's a ton of times when you count the clock stops to reset the chains at each 1st down and playing the sidelines.

Yeah when there's only 1:12 left in the half and you're trying to play the clock, absolutely.

Sorry about saying the ref got off the ball at 2 seconds left in the playclock; it was 5. Look I want SL gone but dang that last series of the half would have been fine if not for the BS delay of game. It messed up the playcalling by making UNT go conservative due to the additional 5 yards. Between that and the missed PI on the interception, these refs are struggling. And now they're calling Aune short on the 3rd down scramble making SL burn a timeout. It's ridiculous. Edit: guess no timeout charged.

I rewound the game. The ref walked away from the ball with 2 seconds left on the playclock. There was no time to even snap the ball...

Thought Gaddie read that well. Wonder why he didn't try to get in front of it and go for the pick instead.

Alright this D is playing! Would be great to eat some clock with a long scoring drive to give our D a good breather. We start the second half so we have a good opportunity to keep them fresh for the 4th quarter.

If we win this, will that be "the stand 2.0"? I know it wasn't 8 plays but considering it's the CCG that was huge.

Lot of respect for SL for going for it on 4th and goal. As somebody with zero input on his future, I'll remember that.
