Those who might have ties to UNT or Denton.

Not sending in an offer guarantees not getting a commitment. Mike Muhney is a business man and visited one of my classes at UNT two years ago. His favorite quote is as follows: "Every attempt does not produce a hit, and every hit does not produce a home run. But every home run is the result of both an attempt and a hit." We need to throw offers at almost every p5 prospect in the area. If one accepts, then great! If none accept, then you have the same result you would have had had you not offered.

Not to excuse poor offensive execution left and right, but makes me wonder how much better our offense would be with that 2013 O-line.

It seems like every week it's not uncommon to see a P5 school "upset" by a G5. Purdue lost to Marshall. Southern Miss played Nebraska fairly tough. Western Kentucky beat Vanderbilt and almost beat Indiana. La Tech is currently up 14-0 to Miss. St. in Starkville, MS. AAC teams are getting really good. Toledo beat Arkansas. NIU played Ohio State very tough losing 20-13. Is the gap closing? And if so, is this the time to see a UNT program truly make a turnaround? Not just for UNT's standards but on the national level. Thoughts on the gap between G5 and P5? Will it continue? Do we have a chance to join in the La Tech, Houston, Western Kentucky, Memphis, Marshall, and others? If we don't do it now, will it only get tougher from here?

I noticed that last part too. They looked extremely discouraged. Almost like they were just going through the motions.

I was just about to say, at this rate we're going to be getting calls from low-tier FBS programs and FCS programs looking to schedule their homecoming games. HA!

I respectfully disagree. I think people were harder on mini because he had been the starter since middle of last year and with the team for 4-5 years. You expect a guy like that to make good decisions, be in sync with receivers, and just make overall good throws. He threw wobbly inaccurate ducks and that's the cause for a lot of his drops. Smith threw a few inaccurate balls, but his drops had zip. This was his first career D1 start if I'm not mistaken. Cut the guy some slack and enjoy the 4 TD passes.

With the season lost, I love that these young guys are getting playing time and lots of it. Next year when we get kenny buyers back, this young secondary can be very good with proper coaching. This is what we've been asking for - bleed for the year in hopes of developing our young players for the next 2 or 3 years.

Personally I would prefer the wonder kid briles or cumbie or somebody at a trendy program than somebody who has won in tough places. Why? Because we shouldn't be a tough place to recruit to and win. Other than our conference, we have all of the intangibles of an attractive school such as being in dfw. Bring me the guy all the kids know and want to play for. Bring me the guy whose current team in putting up 50 plus on texas. Bring me the guy who has d1 experience and who will get out alums interest. Nobody cares that some guy is successful in juco or fcs or in sun belt. I don't want to be be built in the image of any of those programs, I want to be built in the image of baylor and tcu. And I certainly don't want to end up as a dirict mimicking of a smaller program. Just some thoughts. We need somebody succeeding at a real program now. We got somebody who brought a nobody program out the depths in Mac and it didn't help us any. Dodge was trendy but had no d1 experience. Give me both. Also, my grammar is bad becaus I'm on my phone.

I know exactly what will happen. We start off today's game down 21-0 at half after 3 pick sixes. Mac decides to give D. Smith another chance because he is still the most talented QB we have at the moment and after getting the initial jitters out last game, he goes 19/20 for 273 yards and 4 TDs while running in another. We win and Mac decides to start him again next game. We beat WKU in a shootout and win out the rest of the season including Tennessee. We go 8-4 and somehow sneak into the C-USA championship game taking that as well. After being 9-4 and C-USA champs, we head to a bowl game against Iowa and flip last game's score on them. UNT finishes 10-4 and on fire. Mac decides he wants to retire on a high note and rides out of Denton in the sunset. Chip Kelley gets fired from the Philthadelphia Eagles. With UNT ending on such a high note, big UNT alum from around the world decide to donate to their alma matter and we give Chip a home. He immediately succeeds in flipping plenty of big-time recruits from the West Coast and Texas and somehow gets Kyler Murray or Jerrod Heard to transfer closer to home. After another year of Damarcus Smith while Murray or Heard sits out, one of them is our starter and our program really takes off. We never look back. We jump straight from C-USA to the SEC and the rest is history.

At least those 4 teams have productive basketball programs so they can say they are more of a basketball school and to keep the fans sane. We have nothing right now. UCF had 3 straight 20+ win seasons from 2010 to 2013, granted, they have been bad the past 2 years. We all know what Kansas does in basketball. New Mexico State has won 20+ games since 2011-2012 (including that season). Wyoming has won 20+ seasons two of the past 3 seasons with an 18 win season sandwiched between the two... Although I guess UCF is no better than us at this point. But with their recent success in football, it will be easier for them to dig themselves out of this hole.

At this point I would not really qualify Portland State as a "lesser team" but I get your point.

I would be. Take Ivery and Wilson and throw in either Smith or Chumley as QB. All 3 are running threats, especially Chumley at 6'6''. In C-USA his size alone would take some people down and the speed and ability that the other two present would cause some real issues. I am actually really hoping that happens with the current squad that we have. Run that with some fakes here and there, double passes including Harris and we could actually have a potent offense. Running is where the bulk of our success comes from anyways.

Southern Miss just forced a 3-and-out. They get the ball back down by 8 with 11 minutes left. In other news, Syracuse started a walk-on QB today against LSU. I believe it's his first career start. They are down 24-17 in the fourth.

Southern Miss is getting close. We are really in trouble... 29-21 for Nebraska.

Based on this website, UNT is the only school in C-USA other than UTSA not paying their HC bonus cash for reaching the conference championship. Mac apparently has incentives for bowl games and *gasp* top 25 rankings and playoff bids/national championship showings. What's Mac's reward for attainable success? He's getting ready to retire and has hardly any incentives for building a strong program so why sweat it. If he's not being motivated and he knows getting a few wins here and there will ensure job security then there you have it. Complacency is sure to lead to failure.

We don't have the deep pocket alumni? Brint Ryan of our BOR is considered one of the wealthiest men in Dallas by the Dallas Morning News, and having had known people who know him, I can tell you that's very well true. I heard estimates of his net worth to be around $750 million from some of those close to him. Norm Miller, who was the CEO of Interstate Batteries for many years and is now the chairman of the company went to UNT. We have Dr. Phil, Sam Moon (owner of Sam Moon stores), Wende Zomnir (co-owner of highly recognized make-up brand Urban Decay), Mean Joe Green, and the list goes on. We have deep pocket alumni. We have famous actors, musicians, and artists that I didn't feel like naming off. We have plenty of deep pocket alumni. None of which care enough about their old NTSU to help the athletic department enough to get us on track. Speaking of which, when do you hear of any of these people being connected to NTSU? If it weren't for some of these people being advertised on campus, you would never know they went to NTSU. I don't have much to donate. I don't. But I would donate $10 here and there if I saw some of these wealthy men and women donate a bit more too. Speaking of which, this not a shot at those such as Brint Ryan who are still connected and actively donating to the school, this is a shot at those who can but don't. With this kind of apathy from our deep pocketed alumni, an ongoing crowdfunding to stimulate the average Joe such as myself might not even do much but it honestly might be worth a shot... Note: $10 might not seem like much, but if we take 300,000 UNT alumni and ask them to donate $10 per month or $120 per year, there's $36,000,000 we weren't getting before and I know we have more than 300,000 UNT alumni out there.

Or it could be that we don't have the staff to transition high school QBs to being Division 1 QBs. Josh Greer had several D1 offers out of high school. Dajon Williams didn't have his head where it needed to be. Brock Burglund had several D1 offers and was highly recruited out of high school. Same goes with Smith. I'll put my money more on the fact that all of the QBs he's recruited have failed rather than poor recruiting.

Hey everybody, first comment here; I'm new. I have been following UNT's recruiting for a few years now and it's obvious that we've had a hart time recruiting and winning battles against other D1 schools as everybody has pointed out. Mac changing strategies is something to look at with hope in my opinion. We can't keep trying the same old tricks and expect to have better results if it just isn't working for us. At this point, might as well try something new. If it works, then great. If not, we end up with what we have been getting. We haven't been able to hold onto recruits for our dear lives. That being said, I am much more optimistic about our upcoming season than most of you seem to be. Our receiving corps looks to be the most talented it has been in years and if we can get Chumley to go at it as a TE, we can have a dangerous offense if some chemistry and consistency settles in at the QB position. Yes, our QB situation was pitiful last year, but our offensive skill players were sad to look at as well. Some more talented skill players should help boost that a little. GMG!
