  1. We aren’t at least 0.500 in CUSA conference play so I don’t see why this conversation is so active. We aren’t competitive in CUSA and overpaying to look bad on a bigger stage than the circa 2000 Sun Belt. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Vanderbilt is in the SEC do we aspire to be like them athletically? If the Football program gets fixed the conference situation will improve if the leaders aren’t idiots
  2. The Aztecs are playing in Los Angeles while their stadium is being rebuilt in San Diego. That isn’t a fair representation of their typical attendance when they actually play at home. It isn’t great and absolutely better than us but it is closer to 30k or more from what I remember going to a couple of games when I lived there. Jack Murphy Stadium held more than 65k so even when they had 35k+ it looked bad.
  3. That is the logic they used when they dropped down to the FCS. Instead of demanding better and investing in the program they gave up. What if a decently talented recruit was here reading this? How inspiring.
  4. I am not sold that hiring an offensive coach for our head coach is the path to success here. Offensive coach and offensive player talent is at an all time high in Football at every level. Find a head coach who can coach defense and recruit that side of the ball effectively and you can find sufficient offensive coaching and player talent much easier. A part of the reason our offense sucks now is that they aren’t facing Solid FBS level defense in practice. Also with the last name Briles I am not sure he could recruit to North Texas. SMU, TCU, Rice or Houston maybe
  5. There is no good reason to wait until the end of the season to fire SL. Maybe pulling the trigger after UAB would be a little rushed. But if they don’t come close to covering the 12.5 - 14 point spread (I presume this number at least goes to 14 if not 16 by Friday) you have to fire him an promote the new DC to interim head coach with consideration to make him permanent. What we see now in year 6 is totally unacceptable.
  6. Let’s just look at CUSA West and the state of their programs. UTSA-started from scratch Rice-bad, UTEP-bad, UAB-had to restart that leaves La Tech and Southern Miss as consistently competitively managed programs. But neither are great. Essentially just like the Sun Belt you had 2 teams to worth about. Granted the 1st title UNT had in the conference I don’t even give DD credit for because we had a losing record.
  7. The only question should be when between today and last home game of the season. Are you holding your breath for a miraculous turnaround?
  8. Yeah I don't get it Vegas has more faith in SL than we do. UAB was 12.5 favorite in our house. Going on the road after a nut kick like this past Saturday is at least worth 6 additional points on the spread. And La Tech played SMU down to the wire 39-37.
  9. Surprised to see Mike Leach at 13. What delusions of grandeur, the 2nd fiddle to Ole Miss upset that sling-it Leach was going to make them relevant? Leach’s system works great until conference rivals put better athletes in their secondaries. G5 and Big 12 they either can’t get enough or refuse to make better athletes change positions. SL should be much higher than #18, definitely top 10 in my mind compared to others on this list. I want Scott Frost if he becomes available. Not sure of Charlie Strong's recruiting strength.
  10. . So above my comment of the trophies SL led Mean Green Teams have won. He is 0-2 in bowl games his team actually earned a spot in with winning records and 0-2 in “participation ribbon” bowls. If you squint real hard you can see why we should keep in the picture above my comment.
  11. UTSA started from scratch basically and UAB had to restart their program. So I don’t get what point you are trying to make. I would argue SL has more advantages than Darell did. Darell has trophies in the case and back to back NCAA season rushing leaders. Minimize what he accomplished all you want but it been basically all mediocre to garbage since he was fired. You can’t blame that all on a minimally tougher conference than the Sun Belt. You could lower the standard just winning CUSA West and post Dickey we have been underwhelming and that is saying it in a nice a way possible.
  12. Are you interested in Scott Frost if he becomes available? A young guy with some head coaching experience is my preference. I just think he bit off more than he can chew at Nebraska. Cornhusker arrogance in a league much tougher than the Big 12 was is going to make that job extremely tough. If you can actually coach and pick good defense talent recruiter you could dominate at UNT.
  13. You are better than me sir. I am tired of people downgrading a coach that actually won significantly for multiple seasons. I don’t care if you are play Incarnate College of the Blind every other week the job is compete and win most of the games. So the next time someone wants to defend a current coach with 4 years in the job and no conference titles vs a coach with 3 conference titles we need a photo of the UNT Football trophy case with the caption I know you like coach “_______”. So where are his trophies here are Darell’s. Heck Dan McCarney at least had a Heart of Dallas Bowl trophy in the case.
  14. Again just semantics IMO. If he had continued winning he doesn’t get fired for his BS. And CUSA isn’t exactly good either especially the West with upstart UTSA, walking dead Rice & UTEP, and coming back from the dead UAB. Only consistently solid west programs Southern Miss and La Tech. Hopsin “ resigned“ with a winning record in the middle of a season that was taking a turn for the worse. People may have had a valid axe to grind with DD for his behavior and he should have been gone. But I doubt he survives his last season if he was a nice guy and lost all those games. He was also fired weeks after having a heart attack. So instead of arguing over “perception details” just looks at the facts. He wasn’t winning and he was fired. If this program was serious and deserved to be considered for a conference upgrade this dude is gone in two weeks at maximum. That was utter garbage for an HC hired largely due to his perceived ability to coach offense.
  15. This all day. We should never be in a position to overpay for subpar or garbage performance because we have no recent history of sustained success. We fired Darell Dickey even though he presided over 3 straight SBC titles. (I don’t count the one when we had a losing record overall). Mind you he did that with crap facilities, Fouts Field and preceded by UNT not winning a conference title at the FBS level since 1973. I am really tired of excuses and our school moving around in the market for coaches like beggars. I think we build football coaching staffs by offering good contracts to assistant coaches. The Head coach should always be on a “prove it” contract until he actually win something or gets a solid offer from a P5 program we can bid against. And if that P5 isn’t public wish the coach and accept his resignation when we call your bluff.
  16. Yep Seth wasn’t his hire but he did give him the extension that makes firing him now financially painful. I don’t know his involvement at the time of the extension either. I didn’t like the extension at the time either. It was a desperation move not inline with the expectations we should have here. We pay too much money and have too many resources not to be consistently challenging for a division title in late November in a weak conference. The sporadic success of new and restarted programs like UTSA, UAB, and FAU confirm to expectations we should have. Actually we should be on Marshall’s level.
  17. It shouldn’t matter but what is contract buyout?
  18. Semantics, the fact is they had to restart their program from 0. Seth is soon to be 1-3 against them sent they restarted.
  19. Semantics, the fact is they had to restart their program from 0. Seth is soon to be 1-3 against them sent they restarted.
  20. What is Seth contract now? I am ready to see every QB on the roster get a shot if we aren’t going to cover the 12.5. Test all you QB under 100% live fire to see if they can play. Hell arrogantly some might hit the transfer portal so it would be good to know which are worth trying to hold on to.
  21. Anyone know why don’t we use the pistol set ever? For the Seth’s whole run here we have had good running backs. I would like to see what they could do getting the ball 10 plus a game with a running start towards the line of scrimmage.
  22. I don’t see why that would matter for well over half of G5 ADs. If you preside over a failing G5 program losing money but winning games in a crappy conference you aren’t likely to move up to a P5 gig. For coaches all that matters is winning and your career progresses.
