  1. This picture is me, in May of 2008, about to board a plane that would eventually take me from Iraq, to Kuwait, Germany, Maine, and eventually back to DFW. The flag on my back was sent to me in a care package by my grandmother, hung up in my can and occasionally carried on convoys. Immediately after this, it would unfortunately get a lot dirtier when I staged the backpack next to the C-130, and the Californians who were tossing and loading our stuff didn't know what a good flag was if it slapped them in the face. Anyway, 3 shorts months later, I was enrolled at UNT, living in the best dorm ever (Kerr), and watching UNT play through a 1-11 season. And since the one UNT win that year was on the road (if I recall correctly), I didn't even get to see it! Anyway, after having muddled through some terrible seasons during my time at UNT, I sent this to Rick Villarreal last year, with a note about this story. I wanted UNT to have it because I feel like we are as legitimate in Texas as any other team and any other institution. Especially during games like this weekend, I wanted UNT to know that we have every bit as much right to claim Texas as our state as all of the big traditional powerhouses. When I see a Texas flag, I'm not thinking about UT, or A&M, or anybody else. I'm thinking about UNT. I inquired about my flag a few months ago to Rick, and he informed me that it's hanging up in Coach McCarney's office, much to my delight. Go Mean Green! This post has been promoted to an article

  3. Football is back! Also, Football is the cornerstone of Western Civilization.
  4. Ha, that's exactly what I thought. Every time someone said they were predicting the good guys to win, I wanted to say, "You're rooting for UNT too???"
  5. I voted better than average, for similar reasons to what meangreenthirteen posted above. That being said, I really hope he is a World Beater. There is something about having a killer QB that does wonders for a team, and is fun to watch to boot.
  6. Why, in these cross-conference games, don't they just have a mix of refs from each conference, or a team of refs from a third, different conference?
  7. My UT alum 2nd cousin made a underhanded quip on my Facebook that if I had extra tickets to the game on Saturday (which I don't, but whatever), I wouldn't have any success selling them to Texas fans because this game isn't worth going to because of the heat.
  8. 24-14 UT win by virtue of depth. I expect the bulk of Texas points to come in the first half, and Skladany will make some adjustments in the 2nd half that makes the game alot more fun to watch. Though, my heart tells me that UNT rises to the occasion and the game goes late into the 4th quarter before one team manages to squeak out a 24-21 win.
  9. Ooooooo! I get the Longhorn Network free through Suddenlink, I might have to watch that.
  10. Why did you guys have to suddenly do all this fun stuff the first season in six years that I don't live remotely close enough to take advantage of all this stuff???
  11. So long as the chicken is football shaped and the pot is the opponent's end zone, I'd be pretty pleased.
  12. In not totally unrelated news, Josh Greer also seems to have really great hair.
  13. Super excited. I wanted this kid to start from the day I heard he was coming to UNT.
  14. Yeah, considering my first year at UNT was 2008 (1-11), I'd think it would be pretty easy to be disconnected from it. Not that I ever was, per se, I'll watch Football, any Football, but back then it was alot harder to get myself to come out instead of catching a different game on tv.
  15. Hopefully we do a little catchup as the season approaches. Sadly, the first year I had a job that would allow me to pay for season tickets, that job turned out to be in Amarillo.
  16. Well, not quite a win-win. Greek life still exists, after all.
  17. That sounds like fun. After a couple of hours being smushed into the home side at UT's stadium, I'll probably wish I'd watch it in comfort with some UNT fans.
  18. I want that win, more than UT, more than SMU. I've got no personal hatred of any college team, but I watched more years of horrible Mean Green Football than UTSA has even been playing the game. I have always disliked it when new teams went to the head of the line and seem to skip over all the frustration I seem to have as the teams I like twirl their wheels in the mud for years.
  19. Life outside of Football season is pretty much not worth living.
  20. Nevermind, found the answer to my question. Lame.
  21. Also, has anyone ever gone to a game in UT's stadium? What are the rules on things you can bring in? Are my dreams of waving a UNT flag in the middle of the home crowd destined to die before they happen?
  22. I get that alot, but it's still nice to hear it.
  23. Well, me and my stepdad are going to be there, but he's a UT alum, and we are going to be sitting on the UT home side, so really all I'm contributing is one really belligerent UNT fan that might get drowned in a sea of orange..... :/
  24. As I mentioned on Scrappy's Facebook page, not even a deep and abiding love for UNT could get me to suffer through 9 innings of Baseball. Also, I live in Amarillo.
