  1. Ok, that would be a pretty cool meeting . . .
  2. Some suggestions I just thought of: 1 -- You should give these myths like disproportionate numbers so that is sounds like there's a crapload of them. Like: 2 -- Myth #102 -- We can't fill Apogee until we win football games. 3 -- Myth #376 -- Any myriad of excuses that students would make could fit here: I don't have time to make it to a game/I have too many exams this week to make a game/I don't know where the stadium is/Nobody "cool" goes to the games/It won't make a big difference whether I go to the game or not. Come to think of it, those could be several different myths. 4 -- Myth #196 -- I'd rather go see *insert name of some other Texas FBS school* play. 5 -- Myth #84 -- The lives of five "ladies of the night" did not come to an end at the hands of a former SMU running back.
  3. Yep, Rios will be a Ranger next season, barring a trade. Guaranteed next season with a team option (and a $1 Mil. buyout) for 2015. LINK
  4. Yeah, this really proves nothing. Baseball plays 10x the number of games. Football plays simply once a week. This is the same in every market. My big question is this -- what does he define as a "baseball town?" Because from where I observe things, Anaheim is even less supportive than Arlington. On top of that, does a city that loves its football team more than any other team in town make it any "less" of a "baseball town?" I would consider Boston a "Football town." I'd also consider it a "baseball town." Furthermore, I'd consider it a "Basketball town" and a "Hockey town." My point is, they go all-out for all of their teams. The four teams are independent of each other and one can love them all. Dallas-Fort Worth being a team that supports the Cowboys rabidly has no bearing on how much we support the Rangers. What I saw was a team that most saw as "done" this weekend drawing a crowd that was roughly 80% of the ballpark's capacity for the final three games of the season and #163. What I saw was a team that topped 3,000,000 fans for the second straight year (and nearly the third -- 2,946,949 in 2011) and ranked fifth in the league in home attendance. I'd say that's pretty dang good, and worthy at least of discussion as a "baseball town."
  5. So they'll gladly pocket the proceeds of these games but then cancel them "because of the cost?" I'm sorry but that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. There better be full-blown refunds of expenses to those that have spent money to attend these games. Let's figure this out. They will likely make about $20 per ticket in a stadium that holds 34,000 seats -- a potential of $680,000 in ticket sales? Let's tack on an additional $10 per potential attendee in concessions and another $5 per person for parking (since most fans travel in groups and not all "drive" to the game). That adds another $510,000 to give us a grand total of $1,190,000 in potential revenue, and that's likely on the conservative side of things because I know when I go to a sporting event it's EASY to spend $10 in concessions. Factor in operating costs (this is where my knowledge runs thin) of what? Maybe $500,000 to host a football game? So that's still a net profit of $690,000. Then of course, there are travel costs, hotel stays for all those attending the game that the program doesn't even "see" directly but people have already spent a lot of money on. Politics aside, this is just ridiculous. I would hope that those buying plane/bus tickets and hotel stays would be able to get a refund if this game is canceled.
  6. I see a pretty fiercely-battled game going into the locker room and then North Texas pulling away late. I also believe that the hooks, slants and flat routes will be open early on, forcing the Tulane secondary to creep up and then "Chance" or "Smitty" will be open deep late in the game for a crucial exclamation point. In the end, I see it as a "close blowout," meaning the score will look closer than it should have. Ferocious Green: 31 Green hands wiggling back in forth in a motion that universally means "Hi": 21
  7. Exactly like me. I got into it a few seasons ago and loved it. I'd also agree that it was one of the better season finales I've seen.
  8. I was wondering the same thing. He had just one carry in that game, which means that photo was snapped nanoseconds before that puppy popped loose. Since he's never mentioned in the story, I did feel rather curious about that photo being used.
  9. Great story, Tim! Thank you once again for sharing with us!
  10. Just put him on the field by himself on offense. I like Chance's chances if we do this. Who am I kidding? Chance vs. 11 guys is lopsided. Let them have an extra 12th.
  11. You know, it usually irks me when a "team that the big boys should beat" gives "the big team" a bigger fight than they expected, that the default response is always, "Boy, *insert name of big team* was really out of character last week. They played awful. If they hadn't played so awful, perhaps they would have blown out *insert name of "small team."* NO, perhaps they "played awful" because "small team" was better than you thought. But, I've come to realize that this is just our team's way of taking their lumps. If they continue to "meet teams on their bad days," then others will begin to realize that maybe our team is the REASON for those bad days, and not simply the benefactor of those bad days. So here's hoping that other teams will continue to "play sloppy" against us in the future! I really hope that rant made sense.
  12. So what you're saying is, that I need to do the old phone book trick (kids, phone books are when yellowpages.com used to actually arrive on our door and have phone numbers listed on paper) and change my profile name to something like AAATheFranchise?
  13. Not to be "that guy," but Harry I'd like to point out that I also had 8 correct this week. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal to me, but I was struggling up until this one!
  14. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I swear I heard that he played a little bit of QB in high school.
  15. No question I want the C-USA West crown with a shot at the C-USA Title. To me, and it appears to everyone else that has answered already as well, Division Title + shot at Conference Title >>>>> win over a team that "wants" to be our rival.
  16. If I'm recalling correctly, we used him on a fake end around early in the first quarter against Ball State. It was awesome. A sea of white just followed him all the way across the left side of the field as either Byrd or Pegram (Can't recall) busted right up the middle for a gain of like 12 or something. We then ran the reverse later in the third quarter on the drive that set up the game-tying field goal and Ball St., being hesitant to follow him this time, let him run for ten yards before they finally brought him down. All that to say, it's effective and we definitely need to see more of it! GIVE CHANCE A CHANCE!!!!
  17. Well, leave it to me to mess up a little thing like that. Glad you liked the rest, though! **Searched a little further** Looks like they're a network provider. M'kay.
  18. Well my friends, I've had some time to process this and really think about what we witnessed on Saturday and count me in with the "happy" camp. Granted, I'm not planning any parade routes or anything ridiculous like that, but I am feeling overall "pretty decent" about what took place in Athens. And while I'm feeling pretty "not sucky" about the whole thing, there are definitely some areas for concern. Here are some things I took from that game. 1. Jub Jub can make one heck of a football call. Due to a family trip on the bride's side of the family that was planned several months ago, I listened live while cruising down I-20 towards East Texas. While I was disappointed that I couldn't see it as it happened, I knew George would not disappoint me with making me feel like I was there. His call of Brelan's kickoff return was greatness. The signal gave way moments after our blocked punt, which was kind of fitting since that's where our chances started to give way. 2. Brelan Chancellor is electric. If there's not one already, we need to get a nickname for this dude. Considering Apogee is an electricity provider, and we play at Apogee, something like "ABC" (Apogee Brelan Chancellor) or something like that might be nice. I dunno, I was never really good at the nickname thing. 3. We MUST get better man-to-man coverage. This was our glaring weakness. We keep leaving the corners alone on islands and they have to learn the first thing I learned as a defensive back -- WATCH FOR THE BALL!!!!!! (I realize this has been stated quite often around here, but what's one more time, right?) It was literally the first thing I learned as a young Jr. High DB -- if you turn and look for the ball, you can literally land on the receiver backwards and not get called. Why? Because if you position yourself right, you can actually make the receiver try to go over YOUR back. PLAY THE BALL. I know it's sometimes easier said than done, but if you see a receiver put his hands in the air, TURN AROUND!! 4. This team has guts. For that brief period of time after the blocked punt, I felt like we had a shot to take this thing. I'm not going to lie -- there was a bit of doubt there, too. But man, it felt really good to be playing meaningful football late in the third quarter against a top 10 team! And not one single time did they give up out there. I truly feel like they left it all on the field Saturday, and for that I am dang proud of our guys! I don't know how many heard the sideline reporter talking about Coach Mac's halftime speech, but it was exactly what the guys needed to hear. And out of the gate, it looked like they took it to heart. 5. We need depth. I believe this was another key difference Saturday. And in FBS football, it's typically what separates the big guys from the smaller guys. I believe in Coach Mac though, and think he'll get us there. Let him keep recruiting his kind of players and keep coaching them and I think we'll like what we see. 6. It's easy to over-react. As many have already said in the past 50-something hours, Saturday's performance meant nothing if we don't take care of business from here on out. "One game at a time" needs to be this team's mantra, and I think it will be. There's still a lot of football left. Some think that's a lot of opportunity to screw things up. Some think it's a lot of opportunity for good things. I believe in the latter. 7. I'm proud to be a Mean Green fan/student! That's all I've got to this point that hasn't already been said. I did get to watch this last night after we made it back home. I want to see that same energy in two weeks against Tulane. And then again here against MTSU . . . etc. I think they can do it. I think the good far outweighed the bad Saturday. Let's hope the boys in green prove me right from here on out!
  19. I played the game earlier this week (like I have each game week now this season) and consider myself to be pretty decent, but I lost. Don't get me wrong. It was a pretty good game up until halftime. Despite a forced throw that led to a key interception for Georgia, I had them within seven at the intermission, 14-7. My defense was stellar in the first half, and the lone UNT TD came off a beautiful bomb to a wide-open Carlos Harris for a 59 yard TD reception to tie the game early in the 2nd quarter. But, (as I really could only expect going into the game) Georgia went into beast mode in the second half. Their depth and stamina wore me down and even though my guys put up a great fight, I had to keep telling myself in my mind, "I really didn't expect to win this." Despite the valiant effort, we fell 38-7. I got desperate in that 4th quarter (still only down 10 at the time) and started forcing passes. That led to my demise.
  20. Trim the hedges, huh? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCC_i_PyEog
  21. Couldn't help it . . . we screened "Citizen Kane" last week in film class.
