  1. Committed! http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2014/06/unt-adds-another-commitment.html/ Our first 3-star commit for 2015 (not including grayshirting Caleb Chumley). Rated a 3-star on ESPN. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/187867/nate-brooks
  2. Which is what I said. Rivals is all about their pay sub-sites. Like Tidesports, Aggieyell, etc. All of the big schools have their rivals subsites and big enough fanbases to drive enough subscriptions to pay for multiple insiders. Basically having multiple Brett Vitos dedicated solely to recruiting for that school. Always updating who that school has offered and who visits We don't have one anymore, and a lot of smaller schools don't. Therefore it takes longer for them to update small programs like us. ESPN, Scout, and 247 have local correspondents like Gabe Brooks or Damon Sayles who help keep everything up to date. They're more concerned about keeping each player's offer list up to date. And yes, it is mostly done on twitter, so hard to tell legitimacy. But going back, it's even harder to find out players' offer lists. Go back before 2006 and you really only see who the kid signed with, unless he had offers from big schools. Point was, you can't find a UNT defensive commit/signee with a better listed offer list. And there probably hasn't been during the recruiting website era.
  3. That's not Caleb. His cousin for Longview is Dez, but Chris may be related as well. Davis and Rutherford have been on the borderline for grades. Mac even said so on signing day. H-Town is right about the double signing. What does concern me is how late they signed. They double signed with Kilgore in May. I hope that doesn't mean as they got closer to graduation they realized they may not qualify and had to double sign. Hopefully they qualify.
  4. Did a little research to help put some perspective on how big a commitment this is. In the era of recruiting websites and databases, Miller may be the most highly recruited defensive commitment we've received in the rivals/recruiting website era. Looking at our most highly recruited players as far back as the websites allow you to look, we haven't received a commitment from a player with a better offer list. Some other highly recruited players we've had include Chad Davis (2013) who held a Texas Tech offer and about 8 total, DeWaylon Cook (2008) who held offers from TCU, Utah, and West Virginia, and Kerry Swarn (2011) who held an Arizona and Iowa offer. Keep in mind that TCU and Utah were in the Mountain West when they offered Cook. It's hard to truly tell whether or not all of a players offers are listed, or if all listed offers are truly committable. Especially the further back in the past you look, on rivals, etc. But based on the information given, Sam Miller has more total listed offers, 11, than all of those other players and has offers from schools in Oregon State and Kansas State, 2 schools from power conferences that have been ranked in the top 25 at some point during the past 2 seasons. Hopefully the kid works his tail off and the coaches keep working at maintaining a firm commitment from Sam. Could be a very good one.
  5. Visited this weekend. One of our highest rated offensive linemen targets and still has just 1 offer, from us. However, he has a ton of interest and is being slow played by schools like Baylor and OU. Convincing him to commit rather than holding out for the big schools would be huge. Like I've said before, we have just one true left tackle on the roster in Antonio Johnson, who graduates after this season, and Hughes is one as well. He'd have a great situation to step into here.
  6. ETSN story on his commitment http://etsn.fm/cantons-samuel-miller-commits-to-north-texas/ Vito's updated story http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20140615-football-de-from-canton-commits-to-unt.ece
  7. I personally never said this staff can't recruit, and only one person on here suggested that. But I do hold firm to my statement that it was disappointing that we had just one commit in the middle of June. We still had/have plenty of time to bring in some studs, but it was disappointing having just one commit to that point after we were/are expecting an improvement in recruiting after breaking through on the field. Miller and hopefully Brooks tomorrow is a great way to get things going in gear. Keep that up and we will prove that recruiting is improving as our on-field success begins to occur. Really promising stuff. Lol, for sure. Those are the types of problems you're fine with, especially on a junior film. Now if a kid is too slow and/or small, or doesn't have the nastiness, etc, those are problems that you can only coach up so much. Really excited about the future of this d-line with Coach KP and Miller coming aboard. Gotta love being able to get pressure from a 4-man pass rush. Not sure. Never watched Blankenship play. Miller doesn't quite have that frame, but if he could be similar and make more out of his talent we'd have quite the stud on our hands.
  8. Absolutely. I liked how he looked even playing the wide-9. That, plus being unblocked, plus his speed off the edge is just asking to get your ball carriers hit. I will say, the one thing that stands out negatively is that he could use some work tackling, particularly not tackling so high. But just a great get. Kid plays nasty. There's a reason they have packages with him at fullback.

  10. Link to his recruiting forum thread. Got all his recruiting site profiles and what not in there.
  11. Huge indeed. Houston, Kansas State, and Oregon State among other offers
  12. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2014/06/unt-on-verge-of-picking-up-second-commitment.html/ Looks like Brooks is about to be commit #2 for 2015. Beating out La Tech, and recently SFA (offered about a week ago). La Tech has been doing great in recruiting. Beating them out for East Texas kids is huge going forward IMO.
  13. Awesome! He's liked us for a while and it seemed we were in good position to get him locked up early. Then in Vito's recruiting series he made it sound like he would wait out the process. Either way, great to hear! 2015 started where 2014 left off. In East Texas. Bendy from Tyler, hopefully Brooks now.
  14. How many commits did they convert to walkons? Tell us. Not sure how I'm reading that wrong. You don't have to prove it's a common occurrence. Just that making their commits walkon happens at all. And Wisconsin is who we're talking about doing this "bully recruiting." You said so on the first page. Never said I'm the only one who follows recruiting closely. Just that I couldn't follow our recruiting as closely as I do if I got bitter everytime someone committed to a higher-profile program. Nothing about anyone else. You said anyone would be a little bitter. I'm telling you I'm not, so that's not true. I love following this stuff. But getting too emotionally invested in a 16 or 17 year old's decision is too much for me, personally. And I also didn't say I didn't have to look up the urls. Just said those were examples of Wisconsin putting walkons on scholarship that I could think of off the top of my head. No research involved. Just googling their names so I could link their UW profiles to back my argument with evidence.
  15. No research involved. Just pulled those two off the top of my head. You made an accusation that Wisconsin gets kids to commit early then bullies them to walkon. My examples were off the top of my head, but you can do some research and try to find examples of that. If not, you're just making a baseless claim. Grayshirting happens. But these coaches aren't going to convince Chris to walkon. Nor is that a routine Wisconsin practices. Any kid talented enough to get a Wisconsin offer will have other options if Wisconsin wants them to walkon. Chris is no different. I follow recruiting very closely on the national level and especially UNT. If I got bitter everytime a kid picked a higher-profile school over UNT, I wouldn't be able to do this.
  16. Not all offers are committable. The coaches signed off on Chris' commitment, so it obviously was. They don't convert these commits to walkons. Fine me one example. I can find you an example of the contrary. They put former walkon Jared Abbrederis on scholarship after a year of busting his butt on the scout team and he ended up getting drafted by the Packers this year. http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/abbrederis_jared00.html And then there's this guy, who technically came in as a walkon after transferring in from Central Michigan. http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/watt_jj00.html There is not a set number of exactly 5 power conference programs, and there is no such thing as "bully recruiting." You just made it up. Ben, please just stop acting like you know what you're talking about. It's one thing when you do it on meaningless topics, but this is disrespectful to Wisconsin, Chris, and the Orr family. Not to mention it makes our fan base look incredibly bitter.
  17. Commits to Wisconsin today on his visit
