  1. Really good to hear. Solid offer list, but as it stands we have a really good shot against those schools. And we could lock him up this summer.
  2. 6'5" 210 lb defensive end. Also has long snapping experience. Holds Utah and Utah State offers. We have now offered. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2121742/tipa-galeai https://rivals.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Tipa-Galeai-158980;_ylt=Aia3tqZbubPFwL1mIf2.mMlIPZB4 http://247sports.com/Player/Tipa-Galeai-49900 http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/197089/tipa-galeai
  3. Pretty much. Especially in the last 15-20 years when we've seen an immense development in the passing game. But I agree with H-Town and GOMG. He had some good games, was a great leader, and a great representative of our school. But if we're missing him that means we'll be missing his production. He had some good nonconference games, but he had just 8 tds against 10 ints in conference play, and 2 pick sixes in games we lost by 9 points combined. If we're missing that production then we'll have something noticeably worse at qb. Noticeably worse than that would suck, like GOMG said. It really is hard to break down DTs stats without sounding ungrateful. But we have to be able to replace his production.
  4. Soza wouldn't have seen the field here and Johnny Manziel wouldn't have seen the field here. Sumlin played him because of his potential, not necessarily because he earned it in practice. Just as Berglund and it looks like Dajon may not see the field here.
  5. Yup. And they also got this guy who was asked about a while back. 4-star qb Kyle Kearns. https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Kyle-Kearns-141954
  6. 6'2" 192 lb outside linebacker from Lake Travis. We offered about a month ago and it's now showing up on scout. Also has offers from Texas State, Iowa State, Nevada, and New Mexico. Those schools are showing up on a lot of our targets' offer lists. Going to need to win these types of battles. 7. 6'2" 218 lb linebacker. Committed to Mississippi State. Just finishing his freshman year of high school, and we are already his 27th offer. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2459582/anthony-hines-iii http://247sports.com/Player/Anthony-Hines-31715 http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/188008/anthony-hines-iii http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Anthony-Hines-150460 http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7024769
  8. They gave up 21 points. I know it was a team loss, I know they gave up a lot of 3rd down conversions, but if you can't score 21 points at home you have to be kicking yourself as the offense. Not to mention we blocked a punt and returned an int inside the 30 and got just 3 points at of that, combined. Also, our cbs played off all year. Allowed for our to stop getting beat deep as much as early in the year and allow our safeties to help out a lot in run support. Wasn't the best game for the defense, and it was a team loss. But to give most of the blame to the defense on that one was and is still ridiculous.
  9. The local newspaper when they signed said they were considering other schools, but nothing about them offering. Their recruiting profiles show no other offers.
  10. I don't get why this is always said. How was Byrd the higher profile of the two? Neither had any other offers. Package deal implies that we basically had to offer Brelan to get Byrd. It's irrelevant though. And both ended up being great players from us. I just don't think calling them a package deal is accurate.
  11. Two more players we're showing interest in. Coppell defensive end Chris Biggurs https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Chris-Biggurs-160188 Georgetown offensive lineman Zach Pare https://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Zachary-Pare-161456
  12. Which Johnson? Lol. But would be interesting if true. Could maybe make the case that Davion Freeman also is a running back offer, although he's more of an "athlete" prospect.
  13. Mcdorman was before the 25 cap per class rule was into effect NCAA wide. It only was enforced by the SEC that year. Yeah, I'm not sure why we kept hearing we had just 1 spot left after signing day. We had 19 signees and 4 walkons counting towards our class at the time, giving us 2 spots left. Why we were told we had just 1 never made sense to me and didn't end up being the case. We did have 2 spots. We could blueshirt Chumley if we really wanted, but it has sounded like grayshirting was the route of choice the coaching staff was choosing with him.
  14. Since we have now signed 25 players as part of our 2014 class with those two late additions, Chumley can't come on until spring. But that's been the plan all along.
  15. I disagree with people saying that Tackle will make him look more draftable in the eyes of scouts. I'd be surprised if you could find one starting tackle in the NFL at 6'3" or below, which is what Lemon is. Plus, he was solid at tackle last year but not NFL caliber, like he is at guard. He's a guard all the way in the NFL, regardless of where he plays this year. If I had to guess I'd say the addition of Darren Denucci was one to get a guy to come in and compete for the starting right tackle spot immediately. If he's (or Renfro is) one of your best 5 linemen then you move Cyril back to guard. If he isn't then Cyril will likely play tackle.
  16. We've been very picky with high school running backs so far. We have 1 junior running back, 3 sophomores, 1 redshirt freshman, and 2 true freshmen coming in (with at least 1 likely to redshirt) all on scholarship. But Mac has said he wants to take at least 1 back per class.
  17. I agree. Although I could also see him catching on potentially as a return man. If you watch his highlights, he gets a lot of screens and is good at reading and letting his blocks develop. Could translate in the return game. Mac has been letting his linebackers play as freshman rather than redshirt. Fred Scott and Sed Ellis last year, Lajaylin Smith the year before. I would be surprised to see both Garner and Montgomery redshirt. Same with McClain and Andrew Jones at defensive back. Mac played Shilleci and Chad Davis last year and Busby and Devante Davis the year before. Busby and D Davis were more out of necessity, but something to consider. As far as Ivery, I could easily see him catching on as a return man. Redshirt Jeffery Wilson and let Ivery be a return specialist and get garbage time reps at RB. I also am thinking we will redshirt two receivers and play two. Rutherford is the most likely redshirt, and I'd be surprised if both Adams and Davis played right away. I also think Adams' potential is greater at cornerback, but that's besides the point.
  18. Tee Goree is the obvious choice on offense for me. On defense my pick is Brandon Garner. With his blitzing ability and coverage ability he can be a weapon on third downs. Hard to pick this year, though. Probably the most freshmen who are ready to play immediately that Mac has brought in since he's been here. Although we won't know that for sure until they put the pads on.
  19. Congrats Cyril! Also has a great chance at getting drafted. He's been on multiple unofficial draft boards over the past couple years. We may very well have the two 1st-team all conference guards on our team.
  20. Just because we were throwing deep doesn't mean we weren't being vanilla that game, IMO. Same goes for the game before, which gave me a bad feeling that it would come back to bite us. We kept running the ball and trying to hit the deep ball against UTEP as well. It resulted in DT hitting on just 10-24 passes. We smashed UTEP because we were so much better, which masked the problem the offense was setting itself up for. Tried the same thing against UTSA and it got us in a hole we couldn't get out of. DT was at his best when we spread out the offense and dinked and dunked teams to death. When we mixed the run with the short passes we saw games like Idaho, Ball State, and UNLV. When we went power run-power run-play action pass we saw games like Tulane and UTSA. Whoever our qb is, I just hope we give him the best chance possible to be successful. DT had some solid games when we kept throwing the short stuff, building his confidence and letting the receivers pile up the YAC.
  21. I'd be very surprised to see our new qb come in and be as successful as DT was in those non-conference games like Idaho, Ball State, and our bowl game against UNLV. But DT had a td:int ratio of 4:5 (8 tds and 10 ints) in conference play. If our new qb can snag us 2 out of conference wins and improve steadily during that time then maybe we can see someone take us to that next level of winning our division and surpass the bar that DT set. Hopefully our coaches put our new qb in as good a position to be successful as they can. I agree that DT wasn't always given the plays called to his advantage.
