We were the first to offer him yesterday (5/21/14) and he has already picked up two more offers today (5/22/14) in Tulsa and Arkansas State. 6. It could make a bigger difference than it sounds. Could be the difference in a kid coasting into college with a 2.0 and a kid busting his butt the last 2-3 semesters of high school to try and bring it up to a 2.3. Improving study habits before college helps make the transition easier for any student. And yeah, should be interesting for basketball. A lot fewer redshirts in basketball. When you only have 13 scholarship players (versus 85) it's tough if you have 2 or 3 kids sitting out the season due to academics. Then injuries and such can really thin out the roster quick.
  7. First link is from 247, from a tweet by a UNC coach. Second link is an NCAA doc explaining things. The current minimum GPA for an incoming freshman is a 2.0. If a student has below that he will still have to head to a JUCO or prep school. However, starting in 2016 (with the 2016 class coming in as freshman) freshman will be required to take an academic redshirt season if their core high school GPA was below 2.3, but they still were able to qualify by having a 2.0. Basically, in between a 2.3 and 2.0 equals an automatic academic redshirt season. Some other changes, but that's the big one. http://247sports.com/Bolt/UNC-assistant-tweets-graphic-of-new-NCAA-requirements-in-2016-28726426 http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_center/Important_New_Rules/2016_DI_New_Academic_Requirements.pdf
  8. 5'10" 175 lb athlete. Committed to TCU and has a very good offer list. Will likely play receiver in college. 9. Seriously? The same "over-hyped" dallas area that produced our top 4 scorers from last year and top 5 from the year before. Same over-hyped dallas area that we were told Benford was hired in part due to his ability to recruit there. Same over-hyped dallas area that Benford has focused on but still is yet to land a guard from. And now that he finally lands a high school guard, because he's from from Louisiana (with just 1 other offer from University of New Orleans) we can now call the Dallas area over-hyped.
  10. 6'5" 276 lb offensive tackle from Bishop Moore Catholic in Orlando, Fl. Another evidence of us keeping a watchful eye in Florida. 2nd 2016 offer to my knowledge. We are his 18th offer. 11. 5'8" 184 lb cornerback from Navasota. Ran a 4.47 Sparq verified 40. Very fast. Also plays wide receiver. was 1st team all district 18-3A last year as a wide receiver and a cornerback. We are his first offer. 13. I'm sure the CJK5H shirts will dominate the market for the specific SMU game shirts.
  14. 6'0" 180 lb athlete from Austin. Was selected to the 3rd team All CenTex football team last year for his play as a defensive back, despite playing for a private school. Houston played all over the place, as a cornerback, safety, running back, receiver, and return man. He could project to multiple positions in college. We have offered, along with Iowa State, Tulsa, Idaho, and Sam Houston State. http://smca.com/?sid=851&gid=1&pgid=252&cid=5009&ecid=5009&crid=0&calpgid=269&calcid=821 Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1762238/jameson-houston http://247sports.com/Player/Jameson-Houston-62955 https://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Jameson-Houston-164100 http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7691808
  15. Once you first enroll in college as a full-time student (12 hours or more) you're eligibility clock begins and you have 5 school years to play 4 seasons (1 redshirt year). Mormon missions (missions in general) are one of the main exceptions and the one I can think of off the top of my head, since it's used the most. It basically freezes the eligibility clock. Since most Mormon go on their mission when they're 19, some, like athletes, will not enroll full time (or at all) in college until after they got back. It sounds like that the case with Denucci, since the article said he had 4 years left to play 3, going into last season (2013), when it was presumed at the time that he was going to Nevada. Now, if he sat out last year at Snow, he'd have 3 years left to play 3 seasons.
  16. Yeah, but I think he just sat out last year. Could've played, but no evidence that that was the case.
  17. He didn't make it to Nevada. He went back to Snow. Just not sure if he sat out the year, which I think he did.
  18. Not sure. If he played last year he'll be a junior next year. I don't think he played, so he'll be a redshirt sophomore whether he redshirted last year, sat out out the season, or sat at home last year eating Doritos.
  19. He has 3 to play 3. It has been two seasons since be enrolled as a full-time college student, so he's exhausted two years of his eligibility. If/since he sat out last year, it counts as a redshirt year. He will be a redshirt sophomore next season.
  20. http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Darren-Denucci-145884 Looks like we did have 2 late scholarships up our sleeve (Dashing and Denucci). That's 25 signees for 2014. 5.7 3-star on rivals. Just shy of a 4-star (5.8). Highest rated rivals commit since Riley Dodge. Should be interesting to see what position he ends up.
  21. No we don't. We're full. That's why this offer is interesting.
  22. 6'0" 185 lb receiver from Prime Prep Academy in Dallas. We are his 8th offer. Also holds offers from Arkansas State, Colorado State, Houston, Louisville, SMU, TCU, and Tulsa. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/537982/james-proche http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/172358/james-proche-ii http://247sports.com/Player/James-Proche-28226 http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-James-Proche-137061 http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=6743417
