  1. The point is you qualify any of Aune’s success as being due to bad opponent or receiver play when you don’t do that for others, with the Bean case being a perfect example. In a situation where Bean did the exact thing you did to minimize Aune’s success (60 yard YAC), you didn’t do it with Bean. You made a comment about people not having a throw to bitch about, instead of qualifying the success of the TD pass with 60 yards of YAC like you do with Aune. That’s the definition of being inconsistent. And again, if you have something to back up the claim that Aune is some beneficiary of abnormal YAC that other QBs don’t have, would love to see it.
  2. Is there anything to substantiate the claims that Aune is some benefactor of abnormal YAC stats that other QBs aren’t getting? Otherwise, it’s just hating towards a QB you just never give a fair evaluation of. With Emmitt for example, in 2020 against UTSA, Bean was having an objectively bad start to the game and people in the thread were giving Bean a hard time. Emmitt was defending him and qualifying the bad play. Then Bean hits Darden on the sideline, Darden makes a man miss and picks up 60 yards of YAC on his way to a TD (clip attached). Emmitt’s response was: “Anybody wanna bitch about that pass?” No qualifier about YAC, or how the QB benefitted from a great play by Darden. But with Aune, all of his success gets minimized with qualifiers of receivers, bad defense, etc., and his interceptions get magnified. This is a good example of what I said last week. People are so dug in on their stances of Littrell, Aune, etc. that the integrity of the arguments against them are generally rooted in inconsistencies or purposely unevenly weighted towards the bad that we can’t get an accurate analysis. 3. Vizza had 7 TD passes in the first half against Navy in 2007. The game we infamously lost 74-62.
  4. Aune now has 51 career TD passes, passing Scott Hall (50) for 4th place. All-time school TD pass list is as follows: 1. 93 - Fine 2. 69 - Ramsey 3. 67 - Maher 4. 51 - AUNE Aune is also zeroing in on the school single-season TD pass mark. The single-season TD pass list is as follows: 1. 31 - Fine (2017) 2. 29 - Fine (2019) 3. 28 - AUNE (2022)
  5. I’d like to hear thoughts from those around in the 60s and 70s. The football and men’s basketball record books are littered with players, coaches, and teams from about a 15-year stretch from the mid 60s through the 70s.
  6. As some have already said, it’s weaker which makes the margin for error more slim but also increases the likelihood of us having that huge undefeated run to start the season that we would need to be ranked. So could help, could hurt us.
  7. Aune has a family to provide for and it’s hard to do that as the QB of the North Texas football season. Based on actual quotes to Vito and others, and reading between the lines a little, Aune has most likely spent all of that signing bonus he got from the Yankees 10 years ago, between taxes, buying a house, and 10 years passing. He is catching strays from our fanbase mostly based on what the announcers last Saturday said he told them, about him trying to go pro after this season. The truth of the matter, based on what he has said about likely only being able to come back this season if he got NIL money, is that he just needs to start making money. Sure, he’ll give pro football a shot but it’s not like he’s forgoing eligibility because he thinks he has mastered the college game or football anything like that. Don’t understand the need to clown on the dude for doing what probably any of us would do in that situation. Give pro football a shot before starting a full-time profession to provide for your family.
  8. What point in the game was this posted? Game has been evenly matched and back and forth the whole time with a very pedestrian UTEP team. Rice has played one-score games with two other teams we beat by 3 scores (La Tech and FAU). Seems headed that way with another in UTEP.
  9. Aune has a higher Passer Rating (156.6 to 154.9). Harris has a higher QBR (75.1 to 71.8). So even the comprehensive statistical analyses show the two as having comparable passing outputs.
  10. No one is giving Bloesch all the credit. Well, I’m not. Can’t speak for everyone but pretty sure no one is. The point I was making is just that normally people would give a position coach credit for such a big jump in production but I have yet to see anyone on here give Bloesch credit there as his position coach. Instead I still see people saying we need to hire a “real” QB coach, mostly based on a stance they have been dug into since it was announced that Bloesch would move from OL to QB coach as someone who never played the position.
  11. So you’re saying Aune is a bad QB. If your contention is that he is a bad QB, and the results we are currently getting out of him are that of a well above-average QB (statistically, compared to his peers), wouldn’t that speak volumes to the job of his position coach?
  12. I’m sure this is well-sourced and he may have the ADs attentions, but I have a hard time believing Littrell’s recent track record is one that P5 boosters would be super on board with. In the same way that many on here point out how the struggles are not good to be having this far into his tenure, I think boosters would be put off by not having a winning season in years 4-6. And I really hope he gets hired away. Not because I don’t like him or think he is good enough to win here, but I do want to see us become a school that can get coaches hired away, not just end every HC tenure with a firing.
  13. CUSA being bad shouldn’t be overlooked, but position coaches are evaluated on the actual results. Not hypothetical results of a better conference. And the results are there currently.
  14. A QB coach who could get Austin Aune up to 64% completion would not be taking a QB coach position at North Texas with no OC title.
  15. Hypothetical: Let’s say before the season we hired a QB Coach who had the traditional D1 QB Coach resume. Former college QB with experience as a D1 QB coach. Then I told you that QB Coach was able to get Aune’s passer rating up 45 points from outside the top 100 up to 27th in the nation, got his completion percentage up about 6%, got his TD/INT ratio up from 1:1 to 2.5:1, and had him at tied for 4th in the country in TD passes, what would be your takeaway on the quality of that hire? Wouldn’t we all be applauding those improvements and crediting the QB coach for getting those type of results out of a QB who looked a bottom quarter of the FBS guy last year? Instead everyone still seems insistent that Bloesch can’t do the job and that we need to bring in a traditional QB coach at the expense of Clements who has done a really good job with the OL despite two third-year starters going down. It seems like the stance people dug into on Bloesch isn’t allowing them to be impartial about the results that a QB coach replacing a fired QB coach would normally be judged on.
  16. When it comes to player additions, we get wrapped in the transfer portal or how highly rated or recruited the high school signings are. So walkons get overlooked even more than they normally have. Right now, our leader in passing (Aune), rushing (Adeyi), and receiving (Burns) were all walkons who have been here since their true freshman season. Also guys like our starting Right Guard Febechi Nwaiwu, rotation Edge Sifa Leota, and our team leader in interceptions and the NATIONAL LEADER in passes defended Ridge Texada. We overlook them, but luckily our coaching staff has still done their work to bring in solid walkons, and it is paying off big time.
  17. Kadren Johnson is 3rd on the team in sacks with 3.5 and Jordan Smart has been a solid receiver addition. On the P5 side, Enoch Jackson at DT and Jay Maclin at receiver have been good. Good players to be had coming up and down from the portal. Just have to get the right ones.
  18. Aune leads the conference in TD passes, 3rd in passing yards, 3rd in passer rating. I would say anywhere between 2nd to 4th is pretty fair. Frank Harris is the only QB who you wouldn’t have much of an argument saying Aune is ahead, even though Aune has a higher passer rating.
  19. I have gone from hoping we don’t actually need the win against UAB, to now just expecting that’s a more likely than not win.
  20. I agree but whoever selects for the HOF isn’t going to put all these qualifiers on his stats the way fed up fans do. They’re going to be taken at face value. After the next 3-5 games he could be anywhere from a lock for the HOF to not great odds at getting in. We’ll see how it shakes out, but this stuff will continue to be an afterthought to the result of these high-stakes games.
  21. He’s 11-10 as a starter. Thompson was 18-19. His record is not bad enough to be precluded from HOF consideration, based on the bar that has been set.
  22. He’s 5 TD passes from moving into 4th in school history and is 9 TD passes from setting the school single-season TD pass record. Already passed Thompson who we just inducted two years ago. Also 2nd in school history in 300-yard passing games. Would be hard to leave out a player that entrenched in the record books at the premier position in the sport.
  23. ESPN didn’t give him credit for the third TD pass to Ragsdale. CBS has a different stat line. Regardless, I think everyone summed it up pretty well. Made some good throws, missed a fair share, but played at a level overall that should lead to at least two more wins and a CUSA championship appearance. Also, 23 TD passes with maybe 5 more games. Fine’s record is 31.
  24. Again, my point is that many on here weren’t evaluating the current team honestly. You want to make an argument that we should move on from Littrell or bench Aune, there absolutely is an argument to be made. But we have played like a CUSA title contender this season, well before today. I don’t think our own fanbase has accurately marked our team as such because they are so fed up with Littrell and Aune.
  25. Between Aune and Littrell, people have let their scorn prevent them from accurately evaluating things. Aune is having one of the best seasons in CUSA and has a 300 yard 3 TD-0 INT performance in a huge conference road game and the team has been a legit top 2 team in CUSA since the Memphis game. This result is a little surprising, but we’ve been playing really good ball. Losing at UTSA in the last seconds when they’ve won 10 straight CUSA home games was never the nail in Littrell or this team’s coffin like people were acting.
