Grading First Year Head Coaches (with two games to go)
SMU2006 replied to keith's topic in Mean Green Football
Now that we have a schedule that isn't among the worst in college football? yep. -
SMU left the AAC because UNT joined👀👀

Answer is simple: Add Tulane, USF, and SDSU. -
Has the $MU exit fee been announced?

Big 12 didn't "want" SMU b/c we represent an existential threat to schools like TCU, Houston, Baylor, Tech, and OK State. What recruit in their right mind would choose to live in those truck stop wastelands if they can go play in Dallas at the Power 4 level? -

The roster TODAY has more talent than half of the ACC. How do you think being able to recruit and use NIL with the ACC patch is going to go? -

I think Morris will do very well at North Texas. His offense is prolific and it takes time to get the personnel to run that defensive scheme. Best of luck in The American. Should be a fun league to watch from afar.- 63 replies

Mike Aresco - Please play hardball with SMU's Exit Fee

https://smumustangs.com/news/2023/9/18/general-smu-raises-unprecedented-100m-in-seven-days.aspx We're not worried about the money. -
You charge what the market will pay. Applications are up 3x in the past five years and average ACT/SAT are the best of any school in the state exclusive of Rice. So the supply for a very limited number of new students is being more than met by demand. Simple economics.

Nothing remotely shameful about it. Everyone in the SWC was doing what SMU did in the 80's but without the protection of being a true blue blood we were crucified. Now with NIL and the commitment of hundreds of millions from billionaire boosters there is no reason we can't regain status as a consistent Top 20 program.

With a 2 billion endowment. What's UNT's again?
-
Head to head with UNT is like 34-6-1. Who sucks?

lol. The precedent for the exit fee has already been set. -
We already have a better NIL and transfer portal class than most of the ACC including Wake, Duke, BC, Syracuse, NC State, and UVA. I do not think we'll keep UNT on the schedule but I wouldn't mind it. Easy travel and fun for the region.

Pretty sure its going to be the other way around.

SMU's Hail Mary to play big-time football again
SMU2006 replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Conference ReAlignment
This is beyond stupid. Where would SMU park its other sports? The American certainly isn't going to let SMU walk away from football and let everything else stay in the conference. Not to mention scheduling would be an absolute nightmare. Independence is not and never was an option. -

The odds of the AAC (or any G5 conference for that matter) having access to the playoff in the very near future is virtually zero. -
Looks like ACC about to add SMUt Cal and Stanford

The ACC Grant of Rights runs through 2036. Remember everyone who said the Big 12 was DOA after Texas/OU left? Guess what? They expanded and survived. Same thing will happen with the ACC. And you can call BS on the $100m all you want. Matters not if you believe it 🙂 -

NIL I'm in for $300/month. Not a mega donor by any means. Season tickets for football and basketball for the last 15 years. Stopped donating to the Mustang Club when NIL became a thing. -

Feel pretty confident that the money guys aren't monitoring the value of the dollar. Economy will be just fine. Guys like David Miller and Clark Hunt have amassed phenomenal fortunes. Thankfully for SMU they are generous men. I personally hope we keep UNT on the schedule. Unlike the cowards in FW I do think its a good thing for the region for SMU, TCU, and UNT to play each other. Odds are TCU will never play North Texas, especially if they are trying to get an 8 game home schedule like Diabetes Dykes has been throwing out there.
