P5 Lite is an ocean away from the AAC and will be reflected in the TV dollars and bowl tie-ins.

All of the things you say are possible... But we won't be in a conference with Charlotte, Rice, UAB, FAU, Tulsa and a few others that have all but given up on college football and have absolutely no chance of competing in the future with NIL. And that alone is more than enough to roll the dice. Not to mention even in a doomsday scenario the TV dollars will be double the AAC.

The PAC, as currently constructed, is a much better fit for SMU not just with respect to athletics but academics. Look at the research dollars schools like ASU, Colorado, Utah have raked in due primarily to their association with the PAC-12. If the conference keeps Washington and Oregon happy then its a no-brainer compared to the hayseed truck stops like Manhattan KS, Stillwater, Ames, Morgantown, Waco, Lubbock, etc.

We took 7,500 to Ann Arbor. We don't go to Denton b/c well.....its Denton. And I don't mean that as a bad thing believe me. But its hard to get SMU folks and students to go a DFW suburb to watch a game. I wish it weren't that way but it is.

It won't be completely digital/streaming but AMAZON will want its share of content for their streaming service. Either way most are saying 30-35m per school. I would imagine SDSU and SMU come in at half.

We'll take our chances against what we're leaving behind in the AAC. Even conservative estimates will be double what SMU is currently getting from the AAC deal so yeah. Not really a sinking ship when contrasted with a ship that has already sunk.

There is no scenario for SMU that is as bad as the current AAC. I'll take my chances with anything else.

Trying to predict what will happen in 5 to 7 years with college realignment is a fool's errand. Regardless, you take the invite and never look back. Certainly with what SMU is leaving behind in the AAC.

Even in that scenario its a 1000x better than AACCUSA.

The last one that comes to mind is Temple getting booted from the Big East in 2004.

The playoff is expanding to 12 with six conference champions getting in automatically. The PAC's place at the table is secure. Further, they are absolutely going to get a TV deal right in line with the Big 12 in terms of $ per school. There is no current scenario where it is advantageous for any remaining members to leave. If the B1G expands then of course all bets are off but Washington and Oregon were both there to be had last summer and the B1G didn't make a move. Beyond the simple athletic advantages of moving to the PAC, SMU as a ton of California students and West Coast alumni. Being associated academically with Stanford, Washington, CAL has real benefits too as opposed to Charlotte, FAU, UAB, ECU, et al. The fact is SMU and SDSU make a ton of sense for the PAC and both have made the financial commitment to be competitive from the jump.

What was the TV revenue associated with UNT's time in the Big West versus the $15-25m SMU would get being in the PAC?

Are you really trying to draw a parallel between the PAC 12 and the Big West?

Yeah with our top five transfer class and top twenty NIL there is no way would ever be competitive with the juggernauts of Stanford, CAL, Arizona, Arizona State, et al. 🤣

The causal Dallas sports fan couldn't care less about UNT, Tulsa, Rice, Tulane, with virtually zero national brand awareness. Programs like Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon are names with national brand awareness.

Yes yes yes 1000x yes in a better place than the current AAC.

Even in the unlikely event that is true being associated with PAC leftovers is still INFINITELY better than being in the AACUSA.

SMU has been ranked three of the last four years with a 10 win season. Its not like UNT who hovered around .500 with a DOA coach in Littrell yet somehow got the call up to the AAC.
