  1. I wish- I live in San Diego. I'll be going to the SDSU game with the wife, with my phone tuned into the game in Denton.
  2. Hate to be "this guy", but since I'm getting ready to punch out to Afghanistan, I'm going to have some time on my hands waiting for fires to get sent down the pipe. I'm trying to score the music we play after third down stops and stuff like that, so I can amuse myself with NCAA Football 13. Anyone know a jumping off point? Note: I already hijacked the fight song, I'm just looking for all the bands stuff.
  3. 1. Anytime you can announce anything with cannon fire, it's a great day. 2. When did this tradition start? I've been out of the loop for a while.
  4. Red Zone defense is looking relatively solid. I suppose at some point you have to take the talent differential into consideration. Anyone else besides LSU, I think we'd be in great shape.
  5. I just walked in to see the long TD pass and the goal line interception. Not terrible.
  6. Should we expect anything less from the shetlands?
  7. I don't know what you guys are talking about- I played this game on NCAA Football '13 and we won 49-0. First game in Derek Thompson's Heisman run.
  8. An unequivocal yes. Natural rivalries even without Houston and SMU. Known competition, and less directional schools (sadly, it makes a difference). Thus, this almost strikes me as a no brainer. However, I do understand that the reputation does slightly diminish losing Houston, but lets be honest, they couldn't even win the conference championship. Also, let's look at the spring board effect that CUSA has- Cinci, Central Florida, Houston, SMU, TCU (yes, they were in CUSA previously) and finally, Louisville. It obviously won't be immediately in the future, but this is a great place to start out as we begin looking to increase our name recognition.
  9. Interesting thoughts on the ramifications of recruiting. I wonder if anyone else decommits or changes their minds on SMU.
  10. This would have been the more logical step for Dodge to make rather than jump right into the fray as a head coach in an area where he is a high school legend. If he gets the job, in all but one game, I wish him well.
  11. Seriously, what do you expect when offenses know he's our go to guy and put 8 in the box knowing if they stop him, they probably beat us? Your ignorance is overwhelming. When a defense's sole requirement is to key on one player, it's extremely easy to stop him, and given that he's been beaten up the whole year, I think he rates a bit more respect that what you're giving him. This is a guy who probably could have been drafted at a decent spot last year and stuck it out. Has he been typical Lance? No, but he still played his ass off for four years and still has a shot at 1000 yards.
  12. Wait, wait, wait- what is this coverage? In the Dallas Morning News? What the heck is going on here?
  13. There's a lot to be said about keeping a clean program, whatever the win loss record shows. In the grand scheme of things, this is a sport that teaches character and value. Do we want a quality product? Absolutely. We want wins and championships. However, these kids are being returned to society after football is done with them. We want them to compete, win, but know how to do it the right way. I have a bit of a problem with this post getting a minus 1, primarily because are we so jaded as a win at all cost society that we forget that this is only a game? You look at Penn State, and you have to wonder, is decent football worth a person's soul? Apparently, in Joe Paterno's eyes, it is. In many big time programs, it is. I would rather get to where we want to be clean, and if that takes longer than what we want, so be it. I'm okay with that. In my mind it'd be worth it to win and send these kids off to society as men.
  14. We felt it right in the middle of the ball- there were a number of people freaked out by it. I laughed and told them it was even a 6.0.
  15. I'm in Lawton Oklahoma for one and a half more months- to answer your question, yes.
  16. Exactly my point. If you won the NYC marathon by catching a bus, then flaunt your medal or your time, even after you get caught, well, you see my point.
  17. The 1980's were the last time they were truly relevant and they finished #2 in the country. If you talk to a number of SMU fans, they will point out that, in their minds, the pony express was the best backfield of all time. I would take that as a sign that they are proud of that team, which was dirty and corrupt. Ergo, the rest follows suit.
  18. Should we expect anything less from a school that prides its football team on corruption in the 80's and ghosts of the 1930's? I highly doubt SMU will be nothing more than the Texas Tech version of the Big East. They will continue to struggle to fill the stadium because outside of Boise, there won't be big name talent coming in. That's why they wanted the Big 12 so badly, because they could count on old rivalries with the old SWC teams. Is there enough staying power for the Big East to keep it's AQ status? Had Utah, TCU, Boise State and BYU stayed in the MWC, no. But, with no legitimate powerful non-aq's to take it away, it's just going to be the status quo. And, even in an AQ conference, SMU will more than likely be an afterthought. Dallas is a fickle town, and unless it's a pro team, it won't garner the support necessary to keep any support beyond what they already have. Truth be told, SMU needs us way more than they lead on. We're a regional rivalry with a large, albeit predominantly apathetic alumni base, but we are a sleeping giant that could lead to a neutral site game because of the numbers they could draw once we become competitive, which will be sooner than they like. Forever their chief rival will be the Frogs, but this could turn into a very, very heated rivalry that could make for large crowds, exciting opportunities to bring recruits to, money, TV broadcasts. Teams need multiple rivalry games, and let's be honest, Rice/SMU for the "Mayor's Cup" is not exactly a barn burner. But, because we're the trash school which they like to consider a glorified junior college, we remain an afterthought. Hopefully, the AD's recognize this and continue to schedule, because once we're back on our feet, and I believe that will come next year, this game could turn huge for the metroplex. Again, I omit our hilltop friends that come in to civilly discuss the intricacies of college football.
  19. I hear Seneca Wallace is having his eligibility reinstated to start at quarterback for us as early as this week. This way, we can also get the two headed monster of Lance Dunbar and Troy Davis at running back. Any chance we could also get Marcus Fizer (sp?) for the hoops team?
  20. I for one think for one afternoon, we should stave off all football conversation and discuss the greatness of Amanda Knox. Foxy Knoxy is free, yet we have not once mentioned her. She may not be related to UNT in any capacity, but come on, Foxy Knoxy is always relevant.
  21. Outside of size, give me a stadium that can compete with Apogee? Seriously? Have you been to OU? Their stadium is huge, but not nearly as nice. Size alone doesn't make for top tier facilities. I've been to the Rose Bowl, Autzen, Sun Devil Stadium, Qualcomm on a very regular basis, Washington Stadium, Kyle Field, Royal, and a number of other "premiere" venues- I'd put Apogee pound or pound against any of them. Houston and UCF is going to the Big East, Cinci has been twice to BCS games after building themselves up in C-USA prior to Big East, TCU built strong in C-USA prior to Mountain West and now to the Big 12. So, my statement is not overblown. We have a lot to offer any conference from a facilities standpoint, academic reputation and market footprint, even if we only get a moderate amount of DFW paying attention. Our one liability is butts in the seat for all sports. The apathy towards football is understandable, however, hoops is inexcusable. If we had respectable crowds at all events, we'd be able to write our ticket to a non-AQ affiliation of our choice. There's a difference between unrealistic expectation and vision. Unrealistic green colored glasses is expecting our team to not make idiotic mistakes while being outgunned from a talent standpoint. Knowing the assets that you have and understanding how they can entice new conference affiliations is vision.
