  1. Our running game is better than their running game. 38 - 27 UNT at Apogee
  2. Who should be UNT's rival or rivals? 1. A team that we play every year. 2. A team in our region. (driving distance within 300 miles or so) That's smu, UTSA, Rice, La Tech. Texas State should be on that list. We have history together by playing 39 times - more than any other school. It would help attendance both ways. And unlike UTSA , they have paid their dues by playing football since 1904.
  3. I did a little research: What 10 schools have we played the most in football? 39 Texas St 29-7-3 35 smu 5-29-1 33 New Mexico St 22-9-2 30 Sam Houston St 18-11-1 29 SFA 22-4-3 29 La Monroe 13-16 27 Trinity 16-9-2 26 A&M Commerce 19-6-1 24 Abilene Christian 15-8-1 24 Tulsa 7-17
  4. 4.3 40 + shortstop hands = wide receiver Nice get!!!
  5. My point was "more" focus on attracting students to the games. Most don't attend games. If something is done to attract more fans, it should involve the 37,231 students first. Right now is their time at North Texas.
  6. The question should be "How do you get UNT students to attend games?" Fireworks - Nice view outside the stadium. High school bands - How many college students would turn up to watch a high school band play? Watch a local rock or country band give a concert - Advertise it around campus and see what happens. Have funny competitions between groups of students. Fraternities, sororities, dorms, etc. - Fraternity that wins gets to keep the trophy for a year. The next week have dorms compete, etc. Build a student base and it will pay off in future years.
  7. You could have a mini olympics at halftime. Fraternities and sororities have chariot races. Guys carry girls in a 100 yard race. 1, 2, and 4 man races. Next game do the dorms, etc. It would probably pull in some students that would not normally attend, It would cost nothing. It would be funny. It would take about 5 -10 minutes. Just a thought.
  8. Are we now complaining/concerned about playing WKU and MTSU because they are "elite" teams in CUSA? Really? I bet 10 years ago no one would have predict this.
  9. Any pitch from smu would likely be a spitball.
  10. True enough. Move the "party" inside the stadium. Fireworks can be seen just fine sitting outside the stadium. However, to watch a rock band or country western band you must go inside the stadium to see them play. Local bands want to get their names out there. Most would jump at the chance to play in a stadium with thousands watching. Many student who aren't into football would show up for concerts. You will never get them interested in UNT football if they never come to the games.
  11. Bottom line Turn this thing into a party atmosphere where it's going to be fun, win or lose. Accomplish that first, and attendance will not be a problem, especially when we start winning.
  12. The bonus of having a band is tailoring the song list for after the game. For example: In case of a loss Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain If We Make It Through December Mercy Now Waiting Around To Die Where Do I Put Her In My Memory I Fall To Pieces Where Were You {When The World Stopped Turning} Long Black Vale Whiskey Lullaby I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry Feed Jake
  13. Fill up the student side by having local bands play after the games. They would do it cheap just to get their names out there. What's not to like about a good garage band?
  14. Simply scheduling a P5 won't improve home attendance. Scheduling a local P5 would only because they would bring their own fans. A sellout at Apogee requires the other team to bring at least 8-10,000 fans. Sad but true.
  15. Littrell & company have added some players after national signing day. Is there a list of all the new players headed here this fall? (signed, walking on, etc.)
  16. We will all know in 4 years because hindsight is 2020.
  17. A home and home with Texas Tech, Baylor, or TCU would be ideal. Home and home against Houston or Texas State would also be good. Until we can schedule better, we must beat every FCS team we see. I really think Littrell and company are doing some good things on the recruiting front, all things considered. They may surprise people.
  18. Winning is #1. Not losing is #2. Losing to a ranked P5 isn't a moral victory. It's just another L on the record. How many games you win is far more important than who you lost to.
  19. Last P5 here was Indiana on 9-24-2011. Attendance 21,181 We played Troy on 9-22-2012. Attendance 21,823 We played Nicholls St on 9-20-2014. Attendance 21,323 You assume that most fans know which school is in which conference. Only a local P5 here would move the attendance. You are correct that we aren't Boise St. They figured out a winning formula and stuck with it. We never did. A smart Non P5 would do well to follow their lead or at least look at how they did it.
  20. Boise 2002 12 -1 played no ranked teams 8-5 UNT played Texas. Alabama, TCU, Arizona on the road with only 5 home games. 2003 13 -1 scheduled no ranked teams 9-4 UNT played Oklahoma, Arkansas, Air Force on the road with 5 home games 2004 11 -1 scheduled no raked teams 7-5 UNT played Texas, Baylor, Colorado on the road with 5 home games 2005 9-4 lost to 3 ranked teams 2- 9 UNT played LSU, Kansas St, La Tech on the road with 5 home games 2006 13 -0 scheduled no raked teams, beat #7 OU 3-9 UNT opened with a 56-7 loss at Texas season over. Boise Formula Easy schedule + no ranked ranked teams = Winning season UNT Formula Body bag out of conference games + only 5 home games = downward spiral Insanity is when you keep doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different outcome.
  21. YES......100 % Boise didn't get there by playing top programs. They got there by winning against an easy schedule. If they had used the UNT model of playing body bag games and 7 road game per year, they would be UNT. We need to follow their blueprint and learn from our past mistakes.
  22. He should be measured by wins and losses. Actions speak louder than words.
  23. Between current NFL players from FCS teams, players who were walk-ons, D3 etc. there are too many to list, Probably over 200 right now. There are a lot good plays that get overlooked. It is true Boise had 14 *** this year. They made their big breakthough by beating Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. The had 14 players above 2 stars in the 4 signing classes prior to that win. That's less than 4 per class. Boise became Boise in part by recognizing overlooked and under recruited talent. UNT can't slug it out with UT, LSU, or A&M for recruits. UNT must be able to find overlooked talent in order to fill out a good class. +1 I remember a quote from him saying he had to convince his own coaches to make an offer to Booger Kennedy because he was short.
  24. What do Antonio Brown, Clay Mathews, Jordy Nelson, T J Ward, Ezekiel Ansah, Logan Makins, Rashad Johnson, Stephen Gostkouski, Ricky Wagner, Joe Berger, Spencer Long, and many others have in common? They were all walk-ons in college. JJ Watt walked on after going to Central Michigan as a TE. They were going to move him to the OL when he left and became a walk-on at Wisconsin. They were all 2 stars or less and got overlooked. When our last coach missed on QB after QB, he was roasted for missing. FBS coaches are paid big bucks to evaluate talent whither they have 2, 3, 4, or no stars. (see Boise State)
