  1. I posted back in May 2012: UTSA has Larry Coker as their head coach. As a head coach he went 12-0 with a national title at Miami and finished ranked in the top 5 three times. He has only 21 losses in his career & knows how to coach. If he says UTSA can pull a rabbit out its hat I might not believe him but I would not bet against it. He still has only 21 losses in his career & he still knows how to coach. Maybe we should pose a different question. Do you think UTSA will make it to a bowl game?
  2. One summer when I was a kid, the muffler fell of my brother's car while he was driving. He told me to run back and get it out of the road. I learned a harsh lesson when I picked it up with my bare hands. The whole Todd Dodge fiasco is sorta like that. It's just something that's kinda hard to forget.
  3. I noticed the other qb threw for 595 yards while Dodge's qb threw for 722 yards. I'm happy that his team won 62-55. However, it does sound like a typical Dodge team.
  4. Random thoughts: 1. Playing a "big name" school is great...............if they will play us home and home. 2. People worry that playing Texas State might hurt us in recruiting. If we are considered the "more desirable" school why would that hurt us? Wouldn't it get us more press & TV coverage as well as notice from recruits in both areas? 3. If a "big name" school plays us here don't you think they are trying to recruit DFW talent to their "more desirable" school? Same thing if they play Texas State. From a recruiting stand point, I would rather us play Texas State than have 2 different out of state schools play at UNT & TS and dilute the Texas talent. 4. Six home games is a must. If you play a UT or LSU a "big money game" then go ahead and play a non FBS school a "little money game" in Denton in order to keep an even schedule. 5. Building rivalries aganst local schools gets eveybody's juices flowing. That's why they call them rivalries. Who would you get more excited about playing, LSU, K St, or smu? And it may be hard to admit considering rankings, but which one would you rather beat? 6. The biggest problem with UTSA is that we haven't built a rivalry yet.
  5. We needed a little luck and a break or two to go our way. It just didn't happen. 3 or 4 years ago we would have been blown out. Every game we play from here on we have a good chance of winning. How long has it been since anyone felt that was realistic? I will not nitpick. GMG
  6. I have no big complaints other than I have a preference for Grey Poupon on my Chateaubriand steak rather than Bearnaise sauce.
  7. And the moral to the story is, if you want something stolen out of your yard put a $$$ sign on it. I tried to give away two extra tickets last year and had no takers. On the upside my son and I had more room. On the down side those two empty seats didn't buy any consessions. Leaving seats empty is one way to go, but if locals came out have a good time they might just become fans. The problem is getting them there the first time.
  8. Repeating what I wrote last time: Use the wing zone as a recruiting tool for the university. Have a high school night for Denton students. They get a free wing zone seat if they show their high school ID name tag. Build a local fan base by using the wing zone. Empty seats don't buy concessions. It could be done with a couple of phone calls and one e-mail to the schools the week of the game. No passing out tickets. Just have students show their school picture ID and they are in the wing zone. Parents who show up buy their own tickets. Make it a one time deal and see if it works. The wing zone is empty. It produces NO $$$.
  9. Use the wing zone as a recruiting tool for the university. Have a high school night for Denton students. Free wing zone seats if you show your high school ID name tag. Do the same for Lewisville. Have a another night where you have a combination of other smaller local districts. Build a fan base and recruit at the same time by using the wing zone. Empty seats don't buy concessions.
  10. How was Missouri State only down to K St 16-9 early in the 4th quarter last week? K St must have been asleep. I really hope that K St shows up next week.
  11. For those who didn't understand my sarcastically joking remarks, let me clarify. Lance should be given a key to the stadium and his jersey inshrined. How much does he still mean to this team? He should be invited to sit with potential recruits at every home game. How much of an impact could he have on recruiting? I would like to see his UNT & cowboy highlights shown during UNT games. His contibutions to UNT go far beyond money.
  12. Wow! I guess if there is a game honoring Lance Dunbar, he will have to pay his own way in. Never let it be said that we are not a greatful bunch. If we retire his jersey should we make him pay for it first? Just wondering.
  13. K st. might be stronger & faster but they are not bigger. Compare the starters and our O line is bigger by 3+ per man and our D line by 2+ per man. Over all combined team weight on offence and defence UNT has them by 2+ pounds per man for the 22 starters. Pay attention cause this ain't a TDodge team. O line 307+ D line 273+ McCarney knows talent and it starts with size and speed.
  14. Did I say we would win them all? 11-1 might be just a tad steep. However, we have a good chance in every game. We just need a break here and a little luck there to build a good record. I'm cautiously very optimistic.
  15. Call me crazy or drunk on green kool aid but I think the next 11 games are all winnable. TS=win Kst. gave up 418 yds and was only up 16-9 early in the 4th against the Missouri State Bears. They can be had. Houston looks lost. Every game in the SB is a winnable game. With some luck this could be a very good year.
  16. I'm excited. We forced LSU to keep their #1 unit in the game for the whole game. They seemed a little frantic about trying to run up the score. We looked a little shell shocked the first quarter but played well after that. Consider that we played without 3 starters in the D-line for most of the game and a young defensive backfield. 3 or 4 years ago we lose by 60 points and they would have played their 2nd team and 3rd team half of the game. My question is this. How would any other team left on our schedule have done against LSU last week? With a little luck this could be a very good year.
  17. I agree with SCREAMING EAGLE-66. Texas State might be better than everyone seems to think. Houston had better be ready to play this week or Louisiana Tech could make them look really bad. If local walk on Hunter Lee has a big game, more than the OC may be gone..
  18. Next year we gain local conf. USA teams which will help our attendance in many ways. Having fans from local rivals in the stands will also create some added excitement. With attendance up, there will be less need for a "money game." I'm looking forward to six home games and a winnable schedule........Finally!
  19. Get the weakest FBS school we can find. Win big and gain a little swagger. Make it to a bowl and get the students excited. It also helps our case when recruits see an easy win in front of an excited crowd.
  20. I'm not shocked that Texas State won, but I am a bit shocked at the score. As I wrote back in Febuary, Texas State has recruited well the past few years. They recruited 11 three star players (rivals) last year alone. We should find out how good they are this week as they host Texas Tech. We should also find out more about Houston as they play Louisiana Tech. If Hunter Lee has a big game then Houston has problems. Now tell me again how Hunter Lee had no offers and walked on at Louisiana Tech last year? 650 yds 4.8 per carry and 13 catches for 126 yds as a freshman.
  21. Harry, your 110% correct. It just hurts the program to have a big loss the first game of every year. I think these types of games kill our attendance. Half the students couldn't tell you what conference LSU is even in. They just know UNT lost 41-14 so we must stink. They aren't going to get fired up about it and it shows in attendance. Beat a bad team by a big score and they will get excited. We need 6 home games every year. I thought we played pretty well & I think we could have a good season....with some luck even better than good.
  22. That's great! Mine came with Precognitive DVR that records the future. I would like to tell you about what happens in the up coming LSU game, but I don't want to spoil it for you.
