  1. Just a thought. GO GREEN.... Free green body paint stations under the trees. Advertise it around campus, in the school paper, etc. Get various student groups involved in applying the paint. How about 8,000 screaming green lunatics going crazy in the stands. It would make for some good TV coverage. Give some prizes for the best paint job, etc. A lot of students who are not into football would show up just to see what happens.
  2. WELCOME TO UNT FOOTBALL!
  3. Most students are going walk to the stadium. If you park at Fouts or any UNT parking lot it makes for a much easier walk. Also, it just looks cool. I like the wing shaped roof as it goes well with the wingzone seats.
  4. 1. The strength of this team is the OL. If they can run the ball down other teams throats, it will help every other aspect of the game. 2. The defense looked pretty good at the end of last season. If they improve a little and the offence controls the clock and keeps them off the field, things will be ok. 3. The stars need to align. No weird injuries. No bad weird plays or calls at the wrong time. By all odds we should finally get some breaks. We are due.
  5. Biggest winner is TCU. Say no more. 2nd biggest winner is UNT. We are finally in a good confence with local rivals that will lead to better sports coverage, attendance, and recruiting. Recruiting Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma just became much easier. Biggest flop is smu. Will the move help their attendance? Are they going to recruit in the eastern US? How well can they recruit against Big East teams for DFW players. Their only local conference rival is now Houston.
  6. 1. Doesn't UTSA have a large hunk of their campus within a mile or so of the Alamo Dome? 2. Doesn't that give UTSA a bit of a monopoly on football in San Antonio? 3. The city needs UTSA to draw well for that reason. 4. I agree. I was at our last home game. 5/6. They may pay $40,000 a game but they also don't have up keep, etc. But let's see, 5 home games x $40,000 = $200,000 x 390 years = $78,000,000. Might be a bargain. Predicting their attendance over the next several years is tough, but since they play in a 65,000 seat domed stadium in the 7th largest US city, they might do better than we think. We need to stop worrying about how UTSA is doing and worry more about UNT attendance. Nothing would please me more than to sit in a full house and watch us consistently beat them in football, basketball, and some day baseball.
  7. I stand corrected. I didn't realize that UTSA was up against such stiff competiton for San Antonio's sports dollar. However, Incarnate Word University was founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1881. By definition playing them would be playing against the sisters of the poor.
  8. You might be right. If so then it gives UTSA a huge advantage as they are the only football in a football hungry BIG city with a vacant domed stadium. If they can recruit then they could be big stuff in a few years because of their location.
  9. UTSA is in such a unique situation. I can't think of another school in such a big city with only one college team and no NFL team. I can see why they have the city behind them. If you live in San Antonio and want football, they are it. However, I have a hunch if they continue to draw well the NFL might put a team there. If that happened it would really steal their thunder.
  10. Perhaps we can devise another name for a "body bag game" if it'll make everybody feel better. How about: 1 Schedule destroying game 2 Recruting fiasco game 3 M.A.S.H. game 4 Enthusiasm ender game 5 Jump off the bandwagon game 6 Confidence killer game 7 No TV please game. 8. Coaches nightmare game 9 Mission impossible game 10 Medical red shirt game I personally prefer "medical red shirt game" as it helps to explain why it's better to play at LSU the first game of the season.
  11. We need 6 home games against FBS schools. If the only way to get that 6th game would be to play an FCS school, then so be it. I agree with you. Its hard to build any swagger when you get your head handed to you twice at the front end of the season.
  12. There are two ways to go about it. 1. Play the hardest possible schedule we can play. Beat the big SEC & Big 12 teams on the road and prove to everyone that we are big and bad. Then recruits will flock to us and the stadium will be full for our 5 home games each year. or 2. Play 6 home games. Play beatable FBS teams. For once try the path of least resistance against the easiest schedule possible. An early win against against UTSA or TS for example, would breath life into the schedule. An early bad beating by LSU or Alabama hurts not only our record but our home attendance and our recruiting down the road. Recruits want to play on a winning team. Fans want to see a team that is winning games. A team can play LSU and get beat by 30 points, make a lot of improvements, and still get beat by 30 points. You just see their starters longer. I don't get too giddy over a moral victory as it is just another L in the loss column.
  13. History is important because it tells us what didn't work in the past. Hiring a high school coach as your head coach ranks only behind starting a land invasion of Russia in the winter. It just doesn't seem works out. However, saddling a coach with 7 road game, with LSU as your first game out of the gate, is also a recipe that has not worked out in the past. Just a casual observation.
  14. I totally agree. Who fears an old coach who has won a national championship, finished ranked in the top 5 three times, and has lost a total of 21 games in his coaching career? That doesn't scare me one bit. Fortunately for us UTSA didn't go out and hire some hot shot up & coming high school coaching genius. Then I would be really afraid.
  15. It gives us a big recruiting edge over the MWC, WAC, & SBC as they have basically lost the Texas connection. Outside of the Big 12 we should have an edge when it comes to local TV & press in the major Texas markets. When we play Rice, UTEP, or UTSA we will get press coverage in 2 large Texas markets at the same time. I think smu isolated themselves in a conference that has little connection to Texas. Only Houston can help them fill a half empty stadium only once every two years. Basketball will be brutal for them. No matter where we recruit in Texas, parents will get the chance to see their kids play. That's a huge selling point.
  16. Location, Location, Location. They bet on the future. Big markets means bigger TV $$$. It also means lots and lots of news coverage in areas that hold the most recruits. That advantage should help even the playing field with the BCS schools and give CUSA a huge advantage over non BCS schools. I get it.
  17. It helps recruiting in a several ways. 1. Local TV & press in the major Texas markets. When we play Rice we in the news & on the sports in the Houston area and the same thing with UTSA in San Antonio and UTEP in El Paso. 2. This gives us a big advantage over the Sun Belt as they will have a much harder time recruiting against us. 3. I think it may hurt smu as they are now on a bit of an island playing to a half empty stadium. 4. No matter where we recruit in the state, parents and family will be able to watch their kid play. 5. I also think it hurts the WAC & MW as they will have less to sell.
  18. We now have 4 rivals in easy driving distance. Tulsa, LT, Rice, & UTSA should all become great rivalries in the future! I guess I'm the only one who is the least bit wary of UTSA. UTSA has Larry Coker as their head coach. As a head coach he went 12-0 with a national title at Miami and finished ranked in the top 5 three times. He has only 21 losses in his career & knows how to coach. If he says UTSA can pull a rabbit out its hat I might not believe him but I would not bet against it.
  19. Playing other Texas schools gets us a lot more news coverage. SBC games never did. We also need to get some annual home and home non conference games going with TT, TCU, SMU, Houston, Baylor, etc.
  20. AWESOME!!!!!! Local rivalries and a conference with a championship game! Now if we can get some annual non conference games going wilth other local schools like TT, TCU, SMU, Baylor, Houston, etc. we would really be rolling.
  21. My point was if we don't take care our business other schools will pass us by. We just need to be smarter about how we do it. UNT needs to do whats best for UNT....and that is win games and fill the stadium. If we do this it will be us passing other schools and not vise versa.
  22. I posted this 25 February 2012 WOW! Let's recap .....and look at the facts. 1. Playing UTSA & TS would drag us down to their level. UTSA home games averaged 35,521 last year. With a 4-6 record they still drew 32,369 their last home game against something called Minot State. They have HOME games lined up with Arizona, Arizona State, Virginia, Kansas State, Rice, Houston, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. The Alamodome holds 65,000. 2. Playing them would let them compete with us for Texas recruits. According to Rivals we signed 5 three star recruits this year while TS signed 11 three star recruits. What could they have done if they had played us? 3. We don't need their help to fill our stadium. I watched Steve Ramsey play when we were NTSU. I also sat under the overhang with a few other people and looked at a nearly empty NEW stadium as we routed MT the last game of this past season. We don't have to go to Egypt to find De Nile. I hope we can get into the new USA/alliance conference. We really need it. It would be OK if some other Texas schools come along for the ride. But the truth is I would not be totally shocked if UTSA gets picked over us because of their potential and location. Now that the unthinkable has happened and UTSA is in CUSA What does it tell a perspective conference to see a half empty stadium? Playing to a packed house every game speaks volumes. We need to consistently win games, fill the stadium, and build excitement. Bad early road losses to SEC teams kills that from the get go. We need home and home games with local FBS teams that we can beat. Build a record. Fill the stadium. Go to a bowl. Get fans excited. Getting blown out early by LSU costs us in the long run. I would love to hear an argument one day on ESPN about UNT's great record and soft schedule.
  23. 1.UTEP will never become a rivalry with us nor help our attendance. They are just too far away. 2. I prefer out of conference games with Baylor, TT, or Houston... if they will play us home and home. The last time Baylor and Houston played here I saw Fouts and Apogee with near capacity crowds. We should look at all FBS schools in our area. 3. If we ignore certain schools are they just going to fold up their tents and go away? I hate to burst any bubbles but we don't have that kind of power. 4. Who are we recruiting against? Every school in the country. We just need to worry about winning games and getting our attendance up. How do we do that? Look at Boise State. 5. What does playing Texas Southern at Apogee on Sept. 8, 2012 do for our program? If you think we need to set our sights a little higher than that, I agree. NTSU class of 73.
  24. Your right! Lets play UT and Texas A&M home and home games every year! We should never lower our standards to play FBS schools that we could actually beat...and that would actually play us home and home games. Do we really need more than 5 home games a year? At least we are not lowering our standards when we have Texas Southern coming here next year. FBS school???
