  1. Other teams have to account for our running game or we will just keep pounding them with the run. That helps our passing game and keeps the defense off the field. If we keep upgrading our recruiting UNT will become a really tough team. We are headed in the right direction. Don't get too bogged down on one or two plays or one game for that matter.
  2. Vince Lombardi said "Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence." A big comeback win breeds confidence and makes you harder to beat in future games. The last game seemed to show that we are learning how to win even in tough situations. It's a process... but this thing is starting to turn around. That was a big 24-3 comeback. Trust in McCarney.
  3. MTSU is the biggest game of the year. Win & we get to .500 and then....... Ark St becomes the biggest game of the year. Win & we are over .500 for the first time in forever & then... S Alabama becomes tne biggest game of the year. Win & we have our first winning season in forever & then... ULM becomes the biggest game of the year. Win and we play for the championship & then... WKU becomes the biggest game in several years! Sorry, I ran out of orange juice so I had green Kool-Aid for breakfast.
  4. You can make a case for all of them. However, if Jimmerson doesn't make that catch and run when he did, this game might have gone the other direction. I don't want to even think about what our discussions would have been like today.
  5. Run heavy? I think McCarney is trying to build a balanced attack. Our average per game is 185 rushing and 218 passing. Teams that are all pass usually have problems trying to hold leads. Teams that are all run have problems trying to come from behind. Teams that have balanced attacks are harder to deal with as they can come from behind or run down the clock to protect a lead.
  6. The biggest game up to now is the bowl win. I don't think the defining game in our history has been played yet. However, I have the feeling it will happen in the next few years with a major upset on a bigger stage.
  7. Everybody has their own pecking order. I love to see UT get beat by any Big 12, WAC, SB, MW, or CUSA school other than smu. However, I pull for UT against teams in the SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big East, or Pac 12. Same for OU except when it comes to UT and that can change from year to year. Most of the time I'm for the underdog. That's why the Boise-OU Fiesta Bowl was so great as OU felt insulted to have to play a team that was so beneath them. That's what made the Boise win so great.
  8. I'm shocked and dismayed at the attitude of some Texans toward ut. No, not really. I was out bow hunting with my son and missed the game. I never thought I would be happy about ut having their own network, but not in this case as I got to see every glorious moment of the Red River Rout. The best part is the longhorn network keeps playing it over and over. Ironic isn't it. If you aren't from Texas you may never totally understand why some of us relish moments like this.
  9. Isn't the TE Power a McCarney recruit? I find it interesting that he redshirted 9 freshmen last year. 5 of those made the 2-deep this year. (I think the LB Polk is now out with an injury) Does anyone know exactly who he is redshirting this year? I dig it that he is stockpiling players as it will pay off down the road.
  10. ....................................................................................................................waiting for Brock Berglund.
  11. McCarney is building a team the right way. He is redshirting as many players as he can and he still has 20 freshmen & sophomores in the 2 deep lineup. Put freshmen in the weight room and let them develop. It will pay off in the long run.
  12. In 2007 we lost to OU 79-10 & Arkansas 66-7. In 2008 we lost to K st 45-6, LSU 41-3, & Rice 77-20. In 2009 Alabama 53-7. We have made some progress and suddenly people go nuts if we lose to an unranked team. Look, this year we lost to LSU 41-14 & Kansas St. 35 -21. We looked more respectable and expectations skyrocketed. The problem is it's hard to judge progress against top ranked teams. LSU beats you bad. You make improvements and LSU still beats you bad. You make more improvements and they leave their starters in the game and still beat you pretty bad. Also, how hard is it for them to get up for the game. Seriously. You find out more playing teams that are close to your level. We need to learn how to win. This is a process not an instant fix. We need to build a record for a few years, go to some bowl games, win a couple of those, and then schedule one ranked team per year. A team that learns how to win becomes dangerous even when they are overmatched.
  13. McCarney redshirted about half his freshmen last year and is doing the same this year. He is starting to stock pile players. This should really pay off down the road. On a good team, the 2 deep should be made up of mostly juniors, seniors, and 5th year seniors. This one has 20 freshman or sophomores in the 2 deep. He brought in Trice, Power, and others to try and shore up the lack of talent he had when he got here. It takes time.
  14. You could make a case for McCarney with the win over Indiana last season as a signature win. Look, McCarney is now our coach. We need to take a deep breath support him. The woulda, shoulda, coulda game is a total waste of time. Give him some time to recruit his players. Don't judge this by one or two games.
  15. Short answer: yes he is. Barry Switzer once said great players make great coaches. McCarney inherited a mess. He is turning it around but it takes time and 4 recruiting classes.
  16. I'm really growing tired of all the trash talking, name calling, race baiting, false accusations, and demeaning comments. So for the next 2 weeks I will not watch any more election coverage.
  17. So let me get this straight. All this time TCU has been winning with smoke and mirrors?
  18. In the past 5 years we have played 23 out of conference games. We won 3. We are 0-5 against the SEC while being outscored 242-31. We are 0-4 against the Big 12 while being outscored 208-78. I hate to break it to you but for years we have been the 100 pound weakling. Getting beat by an average of 37.9 points per game against those 2 conferences is one way to go, but in my eyes it hasn't earned us much respect. The only way to build a winning attitude is by winning. UTSA seems to understand this. They are going to take their lumps in the future but they are allowing their players to taste winning. If they had played a "legit" schedule and were 0-5, their season would be over. We owe it to our players not to throw them to the wolves.
  19. They should have pointed out the health benefits for students. The longer walk equals more cardio and you don't have to worry about tetanus like you did at Fouts.
  20. The last time a team not from the big 6 won a national championship was 1984. BYU did it playing in the WAC. The WAC!!!???!!! There were some major on air arguments that they didn't deserve it because their schedule was not legit. However, they were voted unanimously in the polls as the National Champions. All the major teams had at least 2 blemishes on their records. BYU was 12-0. Were they the best team? Probably not, but it makes no difference as they were the National Champions. Wins are better than moral victories.
  21. GL2Greatness, you made me laugh so hard I spit coffee out my nose with your "I won't think they are legit" rant. +1 Perception is reality. UTSA has 4 remaining home games. Even if they loses all their remaining games, they will not go under 500 until their final home game with Texas St and by then their attendace will be pretty much set. If they win 1 game they stay above 500. They are smart to play weak teams early as being 5-0 has to really help their attendance. If they had been beaten up by some big teams, it would have set their program back and we would not be asking if they are legit or not. I doubt they're worrying about what others think. They're just trying to build a program and get it off the ground.
  22. Denial: avoiding reality by denying its existence. How many schools from small conferences made it to the big leagues by playing the hardest teams they could schedule? Boise is the poster child for how to get there nationally. From 1999- 2007 how many top 25 teams did they play (not counting bowls)? 4 two were conference games. When they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta bowl, that was the first ranked team they had played that year. They went 13-0 and they were the only undefeated team. They were ranked 5th & got the only vote for first place other than Florida - the national champions. They got there by winning. They didn't get there by having season after season wrecked by body bag fiascos. There are dozens of small conference teams that continually play money games year after year. They are stuck on a treadmill to nowhere. We need to build a winning tradition.
  23. I'm with you RushnStudies. My son has a sure way to double your money. He says fold it in half and put it in your pocket. That said, I smell an upset.
  24. Plan A: How to build a program the hard way. 1. Start each season playing the highest ranked teams you can find while trying to build your program. 2. Get your head handed to you with bad loses and injured starters early in the season. 3. Lose the interest of sudents, fans, and worst of all recruits. 4. Wonder why your attendance is pathetic. 5. Repeat this year after year after year because "fans want to see you play the big boys." 6. Complain about other schools who play easy schedules and have winning records. Plan B: How to build a program the easier way. 1. Play an easy schedule. 2. Build a good record with some easy wins. 3. Wins lead to the excitement of students, fans, and best of all recruits who are at games you win. 4. Boast about how your attendance is way better than a school in the center of Dallas. 5. Repeat this for a few years until you are ready to add a few big boys to your schedule. 6. Be amused about how other schools complain about how fast & easy you got there. UTSA knows what will happen if they play the big boys. They just don't want their heads handed to them. We are closer to getting there, but man, we are doing it the hard way. GMG
  25. DING, DING, DING. I agree 100% 110%! If we had played the weakest possible schedule and were 5-0, how much excitement would there be here? How would it influence attendance? How much of a buzz would it have with local media? It may be all smoke and mirrors, but the bottom line is UTSA is 5-0. Just for once it would be nice to be in that position.
