  1. Yes, I just linked their final story, but they had other almost daily in-depth practice reports during the spring. We have had what one report on spring football on the web site?
  2. High school football coaches attend Dodge's first annual clinic 150 coaches travel from nearby states for coaching clinic Adam Rosenfield Issue date: 4/10/07 Section: SPORTS Head football coach Todd Dodge hosted his first Mean Green Football High School Coaches Clinic along with the rest of the Mean Green football staff, Thursday and Friday of last week. The annual clinic included a record attendance of more than 150 high school coaches from Texas, Arkansas and Missouri, among other states. "Every school has a type of coaching clinic," said Chris Seroka, NT strength coach. "This one is by far the biggest turnout I've seen. During Dickey's years, we had about 50 coaches, but this is much bigger." Seroka has been with the Mean Green seven years. The high school coaches met Thursday and Friday with selected coaches from the staff talking about their specific areas, and featured high school head coaches from Flower Mound, Marcus, Garland and Cedar Hill high schools, who spoke on how their football teams advanced far into the Texas high school state playoffs. The latter parts of the clinic featured the staff presenting live demonstrations of both the offense and defense. When the clinic ended, the coaches attended the Mean Green spring football practices. In addition to the plethora of coaches present, several alumni and J.J. Johnson, a recent Mean Green high school signee from Plano West High School, also attended. "I just came to watch practice," Johnson said. Former defensive back Cass Starks watched practice and chatted up old high school coaches. Starks, a senior on NT's 2006 football team, noted the differences between Dickey and Dodge's styles. "I came to check out all the hype, and the difference is night and day," Starks said. Dodge's "style of football is more up-to-date, and he's hands on with the players. When you have a coach like that, it eases your mind as a player." In addition to the clinic, the Mean Green will also have an open house for high school coaches April 11. "I never did this type of thing at Southlake Carroll," Dodge said. "When I got the job, I talked about wanting to do this type of event in conjunction with spring practice, and make high school coaches feel like the door is always open for them." The Mean Green will play in the Green vs. White spring game, held at 3 p.m. Sunday April 22 at Fouts Field.

    Cusa

I heard we were given a "to do" list for next time. CUSA apparently liked our future Eagle Point plans back then. I believe someone said it mentioned the need for more overall average attendance in football and men's basketball, a new football facility, and adding baseball....things we all know already. Location, size, academics, everything else was OK. Although UTEP had no baseball and eastern CUSA members weren't crazy about the long travel, they beat us mainly because they were in the 40/10 club back then (avg. 40K in football and 10K in basketball). Plus they are on the SWA chart (a Southwest Airlines destination).
  7. Hey, I'm all for any plans you guys have to increase attendance and educate new students to the North Texas ways. I am glad the group got together, it can only help get everyone toward the same goals.
  8. Exclusive committees are only full of exclusive ideas. You can't dictate traditions, they will either continue to happen because they are meaningful and enjoyed or new ones will evolve because times and people change.
  9. Most 1961 grads probably ordered them in 1960 to wear for their senior year, so I'd guess NTSC. I remember when NTSU changed to UNT, former NTSU grads could order new diplomas with UNT on it if they wanted; maybe we still can?
  10. That shows you the power of emails and give-aways in marketing. I wish NT would learn it.
  11. I think it's "BS" = bachelor of science and "61" = 1961. No NTSC in 1985.
  12. "Pelphrey took over the job at South Alabama in 2002 and is 80-67 in his five years at the helm." Looks like a reach to me.
  13. Look at the photos from the listing, it looks like one side has "61" below the globe. http://cgi.ebay.com/Great-North-Texas-Stat...1QQcmdZViewItem
  14. Several colleges have women's bowling. Is that an NCAA sanctioned sport?
  15. We have all these nice interlocked "NT"s on official class rings but can't get one as an alternate official logo?
  16. Catch a look at our first opponent. Should be a brisk day in Norman for football; the current temperature is 37 with a windchill of 29 and NW winds at 20mph. Sink OU !!
  17. Soccer is a fall sport. We need another spring sport for fans plus the SBC is the #9 ranked college baseball conference. I'd vote in favor of adding baseball.
  18. Good luck with finding one uniform and helmet all can agree is the best we've had. I will say putting "North Texas" on the helmet again (in any font) is NOT going to win the award.
  19. Well, Navy fans will probably have "Sink UNT" shirts on..... http://www.cafepress.com/buy/beat+navy/-/p...pt_/fpt_/c_360/
  20. I've heard the new UNT stadium will have similar capacity to start 31,000, expandable to 50,000. I believe ours will have a suite level between upper and lower decks. Time to build it!
  21. They all looked like that last year too. Each had his 15 minutes of fame then would lose it. No one on the roster seems to have all the tools nor the consistency yet to be THE guy. Dodge may have to pick one by default. I hate the thought of starting a true freshman QB, but we'll see how he compares in fall camp.....
  22. He said in past interviews he enjoys the re-building of programs, not maintaining them. All his other past coaching jobs he's left after bringing them a year or two of sustained success.
  23. Source: Gillispie to coach Ky. Wildcats By JEFFREY McMURRAY, Associated Press Writer LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky's restless two weeks is over. The Wildcats have a new coach in Billy Gillispie, who will try to restore some of the luster to college basketball's winningest school. Gillispie was hired as Kentucky's sixth coach in the last 76 years on Friday, a person familiar with the search process told The Associated Press. The former Texas A&M coach will replace Tubby Smith, who spent a decade in the glare of the sport's brightest spotlight before bolting to Minnesota. Gillispie, who led the Aggies to the NCAA tournament's round of 16 this year for the first time since 1980, was to be introduced at an afternoon pep rally at Memorial Coliseum followed by a news conference, said the person familiar with the search, speaking on condition of anonymity pending an official announcement. The Wildcats turned to Gillispie after another Billy — Florida's Billy Donovan — decided Thursday to stay with the Gators. Texas' Rick Barnes also indicated Thursday he wasn't interested in the job, but it was never formally offered to any candidate other than Gillispie. Gillispie replaces Smith, who left the Wildcats after 10 seasons to take the head coaching job in Minnesota last month, despite having four years left on his contract. Gillispie is 100-58 in five seasons as a coach. He spent the last three years with the Aggies, molding the longtime also-ran into a Big 12 power. Texas A&M went 27-7 this season. His success with the Aggies made Gillispie a hot commodity. He was approached by Arkansas after Stan Heath was fired, but decided to stay with the Aggies, agreeing to a new contract worth $1.75 million that would have made him among the Big 12's highest-paid coaches. The 47-year-old coach, however, never signed the deal and he didn't hesitate when Kentucky came calling. Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne gave Barnhart permission to speak to Gillispie on Thursday night, and by Friday morning the job was his. Gillispie was an assistant under Bill Self at Tulsa and Illinois before coaching UTEP in 2002. He coached the Miners for two seasons, surviving a 6-24 season in 2002-03, then leading the Miners to a 24-8 record the next year.
  24. Kentucky to talk to A&M's Gillispie 09:22 PM CDT on Thursday, April 5, 2007 By RACHEL COHEN / The Dallas Morning News Kentucky has asked Texas A&M for permission to speak to men’s basketball coach Billy Gillispie about its opening, athletic director Bill Byrne announced. Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart call Byrne about 7 p.m. Thursday and was given permission. “Coach Gillispie is one of the top coaches in the country, and we certainly do not want to lose him,” Byrne said in a statement. “At the same time, I do not want to stand in the way of any member of my department who wants to explore another option if he or she feels that is in their best interest.”
