  1. Same speech two years ago with that new coach… didn’t happen then either.
  2. That is the way it is headed, with some college athletes already granted the right to unionize. There is push also to have any athletic NIL distribution be handled by a player's school, vs third-party donor group. I imagine any formal "employee" designation will lead to having a value attached to any education expenses, to make it part of a compensation package.
  3. That works. Toss out their free education, books, meals, dorm and medical and let them pay for it with their NIL, like real employees have to.
  4. In 1995 we were basically Independent, moving from 1-AA Southland Conference to 1-A Big West Conference in 1996. We were limited in who we could schedule and where the game would be.
  5. Coaches are under contracts, many with buyout stipulations if they want to leave before the end of it. They can't just walk away like a player can now. Scholarships used to have sit-out rules if you transferred. Put players under contracts too, with buyouts for the new school to pay.
  6. You mean after the previous season. This season he went 15-18 and many wanted him gone! He will fail at $mut too...they all do.
  7. I'm thinking perhaps he means Perry and now Edwards. Our leading scorers getting poached by bigger programs every year. This is happening in football and even softball as our best pitcher got bought by OU. This is where binding player contracts will have to be mandated, like for coaches, with salaries and buyouts if they want to leave the contract early.
  8. A$M took it to overtime against your "walk-ons" and nearly sent you home!
  9. Not nearly as bad as the SJSU re-do with a building wall and some random beach loungers to watch the game from, lol...
  10. I believe Colleges will soon have to go to playing-contracts with athletes before much longer, similar to the NFL. Mainly to lock up players from moving after each season. The pay will have to be school-issued (but can be donor funded) with cap limits set on rosters determined by conference membership. Players can still sign endorsement deals outside the school playing contracts. But they can't leave for another school until either released from their current school contract, or stipulated buyout paid, or settlement agreement. Similar to NFL. A buyout from another school would help the athlete to move up in conferences and help the losing school recruit his replacement.

  12. LOL. He was 15-18 last season and on the hot seat to be fired. Glad you found a rescue dog to lead you into the ACC basement.
  13. Seton Hall beats UNLV 91-68 in the NIT quarterfinals.
  14. It will be interesting to see how the PAC-2 attempts to rebuild the PAC. Obviously they have a limited pool of FBS programs (MWC) and perhaps some AAC schools to try and sway. First priority would be to find a willing media partner for broadcast rights for any potential membership scenario. I just don't see OSU and WSU willingly joining the MWC and dropping to G5 unless there is no other viable option, including going Indy.
  15. The top two seeds from each region are headed to the Sweet 16 for just the fifth time. https://apnews.com/article/march-madness-32702c7f1620f8e4aeeca3b6fbdf122a
  16. I used to think colleges were more loyal to tradition and rivalry than $$. But it turns out they can be bought too.
  17. Washington State, Oregon State settle with schools exiting Pac-12 https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/39808513/washington-state-oregon-state-settle-schools-exiting-pac-12
  18. Rice will be different. High academics, standards, morals, class....everything $mut is not.
  19. Lots of missed opportunities this season. We were streaky within most games. Easy layups would have been great instead of the circus slam dunks that failed. Out-of-control ball handling into the paint for a turnover, an extra muffed pass causing the shot clock to expire, poor free-throws that would have sealed a win, etc. Ross hopefully will clean up much of it. The team needs more play-ready reserves, 3 Bigs instead of 2, 3 power forwards instead of 1, more inside game instead of just outside. Year 2 will be interesting from the roster makeover and retention standpoint.
  20. Fans will not continue supporting college football financially for long the way it is trending. The NFL ties players to teams by contracts for specific years. College players now can leave programs anytime. The pay isn't the issue, the lock-down of the player to the school is the biggest issue.
  21. Agree, our most challenging schedule ever....
