  1. Let's see how the new recruits mix in and fare against the vets in the fall. I know Dodge recuited players who could play right away "if they had to" but that was before he had spring training and saw what he had to work with. He said basically the defense is the strength of the team, the punter is good, a couple receivers impressed him enough, and he likes Meager's consistency the best so far of the four qbs. I expect a couple freshman to make the travel squad but I'm thinking he'll redshirt as many as possible to still be competative in this transition year. Next year will be the show.
  2. I think Dodge recently was quoted as saying he was for the ban.
  3. CUSA knows we want in it, from the last rodeo. We can't burn bridges yet within the SBC. We shouldn't really throw all our hopes on just one conference by publicly saying we only want in "x" conference. What if the MWC calls for a travel partner for TCU or a couple conferences implode and a new SWC begins to form? We wait for an opening then apply (but build a 90,000 seat stadium in the meantime ).

  5. All subject to change: 2008 9-20 @ Miami 9-27 @ Kansas State 2009 9-5 @ Louisiana State 9-12 Air Force 2010 9-25 Kansas State TBA @ Clemson 2011 2012 9-15 @ Kansas State
  6. Good question, but the answer is definitely Conference. Better conference opponents will attract more fans = more $ for new facilities later. (BTW, UT still won't come to a new 30K stadium at UNT). Did a new SuperPit get us into a new conference> No. Did a 70,000 seat stadium help Rice get into the Big12> No. It's all about the conference first, facilities second!
  7. I first thought by the title we were going to play Bowling Green of the MAC, but I see now we will play IN Bowling Green, Ky. Those are some good home OOC games WKY already managed to get: Iowa State, Indiana, Army, Navy. And to be scheduling out to 2015 is impressive to. Wish we could see more of our future schedules. Maybe it depends on our future stadium situation. Does size matter?
  8. Very interesting process. I bet these new coaches can find some good walkons too, most being former local high school coaches themselves. This spring's NT team, made up of mainly last season's players, improved greatly with only 15 practices. The fall team, including signed players and new walkons will look like a whole new team all over again. Each re-generation of the team under Dodge will become better and better.
  9. 45,000 is for "future" phases. They are starting with renovations and expansions of their current stadium to bring capacity up to only 18,000. Any future expansion will be based on them joining the Big East or SEC!
  10. I've heard just the opposite. Someone posted earlier in the spring that more was being done and even Dodge referred to it at the football banquet. Jamario made reference to the new coaches and weight workouts helping him in spring practice.
  11. These bus trips are fun and only a little over two hours from Denton. Last time to Norman our bus watched the 2002 Bowl win over Cincy on the way up. It's like mobile tailgating!
  12. Oh you can bet the interlocked NT will be back, it always comes back, if not with this regime then with the next!
  13. ..... there is no North Texas on the helmet; how will viewers know where this player is from? But seriously, why not just a simple interlocked NT on the helmet?
  14. Basketball: Jones will get 5-year extension UNT men to bring in another JUCO guard 12:14 AM CDT on Thursday, April 26, 2007 By Brett Vito / Staff Writer North Texas capped one of the best seasons in the history of its men's basketball program by ensuring Johnny Jones' future with the team Wednesday night. The Mean Green head coach was heading into the final year of his contract, but has agreed in principle on a five-year extension. UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal announced the agreement -- which still must be approved by the school's board of regents -- at the basketball program's annual awards banquet at the Student Union. "Coach Jones has established a situation where we continue to progress and escalate the talent level," Villarreal said. "The biggest part in a successful program is continuity. I am confident and hopeful that the board will approve the contract that we will present, and coach Jones will be a part of the Mean Green family for a long time." Last season, Jones led the Mean Green to the Sun Belt Conference tournament title and its first berth in the NCAA Tournament since 1988. UNT set a school record for wins in a season by finishing 23-11. "I am very appreciative of the confidence the university is showing in the staff, and the excitement they have showed in the direction of the program," Jones said. Jones took over a struggling program before the beginning of the 2001-02 season and posted at least a .500 record in three of his first five campaigns before the Mean Green's breakout season that ended with a loss to Memphis in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Jones moved into third place in UNT history in career wins last season and has an 86-89 record in six years with the Mean Green. Jones expressed confidence in the future of the program on a night when UNT honored several of the players who helped the Mean Green post one of the most memorable campaigns in program history. Senior guard Calvin Watson was named the UNT men's team MVP. The women's team also handed out a series of postseason awards and named junior post Talicia Sanders the MVP. UNT inks second McCoy UNT head coach Johnny Jones announced Wednesday that he has added a second McCoy to his latest recruiting class. Adam McCoy, a 6-3 guard from Mesa (Ariz.) Community College, has signed his national letter of intent and will continue his basketball career in the Dallas area, where he was a standout at Arlington Oakridge. McCoy averaged 18.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals a game last year for Mesa. He will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Mean Green. Adam McCoy joins Ryan McCoy, a point guard from Midland College, in the Mean Green's latest recruiting class. Adam McCoy shot 48.7 percent from 3-point range last season to rank No. 14 nationally among junior college players. He also ranked third in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference with an 83.5 free throw shooting percentage and shot 50 percent from the field. "After losing a shooter like Calvin [Watson] and a player of his magnitude, we needed to bring in a player with the same type of skills," Jones said. "We think we have found one in Adam McCoy." Adam McCoy was named to the second team of both the NJCAA Region I team and All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference team last season and appears to fill an immediate need for UNT. The Mean Green lost three of its top wing players from last season's team in Watson, Kendrick Davis and Rich Young. Jones said Adam McCoy can play either the shooting guard or small forward spot. Adam McCoy committed to the Mean Green over several other programs that showed interest, including Boise State, Louisiana Tech and Texas-San Antonio. McCoy averaged 21.7 points a game at Oakridge in the 2003-04 season and ranked among the leading scorers in the private school ranks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. UNT has two scholarships remaining for its 2007 recruiting class. Briefly ... Guard Collin Mangrum had offseason surgery on his right shoulder, but is expected to be ready in time for the beginning of practice in the fall. BRETT VITO can be reached at 940-566-6870. 15. Humm....might I tempt you with a REAL "flying worm" helmet in trade?
  16. That was an entertaining game, in the stands anyway.
  17. Looks a little high-schoolish. I prefer a horseshoe design or one continuous curved seating area as opposed to chopped up square sections of seating like this.
  18. They are beyond help. It would be better spent in Denton.

  22. From Vito/DRC: Mean Green Blog April 24, 2007 New hoops prospect A new name has emerged on the UNT men's basketball recruiting front following the news that shooting guard Kevin Goffney has committed to Chattanooga. Adam McCoy, a 6-4 shooting guard from Mesa Community College in Arizona, is on the Mean Green's radar, according to a source close to the situation. McCoy averaged 18.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals a game last year for Mesa and is from the area. He played for Arlington Oakridge. McCoy was a second team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference selection last season and appears as if he would fit the Mean Green's needs. UNT is still looking for someone who can play the small forward spot and fill the role left by Calvin Watson. South Florida transfer Collin Dennis seems destined to take Kendrick Davis' spot at shooting guard. In other basketball news, UNT women's coach Tina Slinker said Tuesday that Ashley Vation has left the program. Vation was a highly regarded recruit when she arrived at UNT, but never really developed and played sparingly the last two seasons. The following is a link to McCoy's page on the Mesa Web site: http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/athletics/athle...sket/mccoy.html
