  1. Tuck the stadium into a natural hillside over by Eagle Point. White stone facade', seating capacity of 30-40k...one main level with a walkway through the middle ala Fouts...lower level with legit seats, upper level remains bleachers...possibility of expansion on one side ala Amon Carter. Seating in one endzone, bleachers, with UNT painted ala Floyd Casey. The other endzone remains open, a grassy knoll where Mean Green Village can be set up...creating a kick ass party atmosphere in one end zone...either entirely inside the field, half and half or all outside.
  2. Im a Ft. Worthian and grew up watching TCU and L.T. and can not wait for the TCU/UT game (only picked the FAU/MTSU game for its SBC implications...much rather watch TCU). Patterson knows how to get his team up for big Big 12 games...I wouldn't be surprised to see TCu beat UT and then go lose to Air Force the next weekend.
  3. I am only making this thread active again because nobody gave any credit to Pollock for one of the funnier and creative posts this board has ever seen...Pollock i appreciate good humor and felt you deserved some recognition for your efforts.
  4. What type of middle school football is as organized and disciplined as this entire team...hell, league. These guys are running Navy's flexbone offense better than Navy...the kid is amazing but I'm more in awe of the perfectly executed trap and lead blocking this kids getting. My favorite move was the cut back against the fake Oregon where the kid just crumbles in front of him. And he's clearly 'roided up
  5. That MTSU / FAU game has the potential to sort things out in the Sun belt very early on...many people have FAU finishing second in the SBC and ohhhh how I would just love to go to MTSU board after an opening day loss, pretend its a beach and just sit and soak in all of the sun (the sun of course being the crying, bitching and excuses). SPF 132 would be recommended.
  6. A shortage of girls to date? This poster has clearly never heard of "The White Prize" SMU is a rich, southern, business focused institution in between Highland and University Park. There are look-out post that make sure liberals don't come within a mile and a half of campus. Sorry to break it to you lifer but this guy loves his gun, hates his mexicans, but not as much as his gays, has a man crush on Bill O'Reilly and has a life size cut out of the nutty b!tch Ann Coulter in his bedroom...perhaps with a nudie pic of her under his pillow
  7. Wow...I heard or read nothing of Little's legal problems...is he looking at major jail time? As for Cloud and Taylor...I had a feeling they were gone considering the number of guards being brought in. I knew of the Douglass signing, but didn't include him because I didn't think he would see much time. He had great defensive numbers (5.6bpg), but I felt only averaging 9 points at a JUCO level translates in to a very limited D-1 offensive game. I guess with Little he probably wouldn't have seen much time. Didn't know anything about Coleman. As for Tilford, you've listed 12 players and can have up to 13 on scholarship...are yall under some sanctions for the Little incident or is Arrow still looking or could it be for Tilford, or one of the non-qualifiers? Also, does USA have an athletic forum like this one...thats where I gather a lot of my information for these and I could find one for you guys Thanks for the corrections!
  8. Have you ever taken your girlfriend out for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner...only to have her break up with you a few days later? Things seem to be going well...and then completely out of the blue your playing Ben Fold's "Song for the Dumped" on repeat in your iPod. Feb. 14 2006: The South Alabama Jaguars strut into Hofheinz Pavilion and beat the Houston Cougars (3rd place C-USA) 66-61, winning their 13th straight game of the season. Three days before, USA beat Arkansas St. by 18. Four days after their Valentine's victory the Jags lose by two at FIU...starting a string of 5 straight loses to close out the year...including an NIT defeat to Syracuse. Perhaps the only thing more surprising then South Alabama's collapse is that John Pelphry gets promoted for his effort. Ronnie Arrow returns to Mobile, 18 years after he led the Jags to a first round NCAA tourney upset of Alabama...and an unceremonious dismissal in 1994. Arrow comes into a more luxurious position than the bare-cupboard program at Texas A&M Corpus Christi he built from Division II to a team capable of giving Wisconsin a scare in the 07 tourney. Projected Starters: PG. Daon Merritt 5'10" 190 Sr.SG. Demetric Bennett 6'4" 210 Sr.SF. Daniel Hayles 6'5" 215 Jr.PF. Brandon Davis 6'7" 220 Jr.C. Ernest Little 6'9" 230 Sr.Frontcourt: If you want to play for South Alabama, sign with a different D-1 program and there’s a better than zero chance you'll end up in Mobile eventually. Ten D-1 transfers have played for USA since 2005...helping make the Jags the class of The Belt during John Pelphry's tenure. All five projected starters began their careers at different schools. Ernest Little (6'9" 230 Sr.) became eligible mid-season last year after transferring from UAB and immediately solidified the Jaguar frontcourt. Little debuted in late December with a 17 point performance against Ole Miss and closed out the year with 17 points and 18 rebounds in the NIT loss to Syracuse. In between he averaged 12.8ppg and 9.0rbg, good for second team all SBC honors despite playing in just 22 games. Little will have plenty of versatile help up front. Leading the way will be Daniel Hayles (6’5” 215 Jr.). Hayles sat out last season as a transfer from Auburn where he made twenty career starts, averaged 5.9 points and 3.1 rebounds as a sophomore and dropped a career high 18 against Mississippi State. The lefty is capable of playing the 2, 3 or 4 and is an adequate three point shooter. Brandon Davis (6’7” 220 Jr.) is most likely to start at power forward. Davis was solid last season (6.0ppg, 4.2rpg) in a platoon role with the graduated Leandro Buboltz. Davis, a transfer from Jacksonville State, is capable of expanding his role if he could manage to stay out of foul trouble. He comfortably led the team in fouls last season (89), fouled out twice and finished with four fouls seven other times. Davis put up double figure scoring nights seven times last season. Kenny Hooks (6’7” 215 Sr.), n Oregon State transfer, is an energetic, defensive minded combo-forward; same can be said for Trajinski Grigsby (6’6” 215 Jr.). Combined they averaged 5.1ppg and 3.6rpg. Twins Charles and Phillip Tabet (6’9” 230 sophs) will give Arrow big line-up options, as will mammoth recruit Kem Nweke (6’10” 310). Backcourt: The big question for the Jags coming into last season was whether or not Demetric Bennett (6’4” 215 Sr.) would be able to ease the loss of Mario Jointer and Chey Christie and the 25 ppg they contributed. Bennett, a SMU transfer, stepped up, averaging 15.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest, scoring over 20 points nine times, including 23 against Syracuse in the NIT and a season high 29 against UNT. Bennett shot 46% from the field, 45% from three, and was a solid defensive contributor, leading the team in steals with 53. Joining Bennett is Daon Merritt (5’10” 190 Sr.). The Richmond transfer excelled in his first season in Mobile, averaging 13.0 points, 2.5 boards and a team leading 5.3 assists per contest. Depth will be the biggest backcourt concern. Gone are solid reserves Carlos Smith (9.4ppg) and Stephen Cowherd (5.6ppg). Sophomores Brooks Taylor (6’4” 185) and Darren Cloud (6’2” 180) showed little in their rookie campaigns; Taylor having a bit more in his bag with a 10 point performance in January against UL-Monroe, seeing an expanded role due to the suspensions of Merritt and Bennett. JUCO transfer Dominic Tilford (5’11” 190 Jr.) is the most likely to fill the reserve guard role. Tilford is a former Kentucky Mr. Basketball who started his career at Cincinnati, and then went the JUCO route after minimal time with the Bearcats. Dallas area combo Kevin Busby-Hayden (6’1” 165 Fr.) will also be given the chance to contribute immediately. Pelphry signed three guards in the early signing period; combo LaDarius Hall (6’2” 175), swingman Jamar Moore (6’5” 180) and point DeAndre Ross (6’1” 175) and its un-clear if they will be remaining with the Jags following the coaching change. Summary: South Alabama was the class of the Sun Belt last season, and their collapse was inexplicable. Perhaps Pelphry was focused more on moving up than what was happening on the court. Ronnie Arrow steps into a great situation…atleast for next season. Arrow seems to be taking a different recruiting philosophy, noting that eventually the D-1 transfer pool will run dry. The Jags top three returning scorers will be seniors, their top two newcomers juniors, and 4 other upper-classmen expected to contribute next season. Arrow is a solid recruiter, and will need to show his prowess quickly, as graduations will take their toll in a hurry. Back-up point guard seems to be the only area of major concern for Arrow. Bennett and Merritt comprise the most dynamic backcourt duo in the league. Add them to Little, Hayles and a group of athletic, versatile forwards and you’re looking at the SBC champion…assuming Arrow isn’t looking to take an SEC job by the end of the season.
  9. Arkansas would be nuts to leave the SEC...they're not going anywhere. The Pac-10 has absolutly no motivation to expand. They are already a BCS conference and that will never change...they and the SEC are the deepest conferences in terms of the smaller sports as well: back to back National Baseball champions, swimming and diving, volleyball, gymnastics, water polo ect...it may not seem like much to us, but we've never been competitive in those areas and the Pac 10 schools take these sports seriously. Add to that the want for academia to be associated with the Pac 10 by their university presidents...they wouldn't water that down with the likes of Colorado or Fresno St. If the MWC expands...I have a hard time believing they're not going after Boise St. CUSA expands if the Big East does...but the Big East is already at 16 teams for basketball...doubt they'd want to add another. Big East tradition is built around basketball. It seems the only likely opening anytime soon would be the WAC replacing Boise...and probably taking 2 to make 10. But how much better is a Boise-less WAC than the Sun Belt...and travel doesn't get any better, especially those trips to Hawaii. ACC full, SEC full, Big 10 full...unless Notre Dame wants to join...but why the hell would they when they don't have to share bowl revenue, and MAC full. Patience maybe the best policy. Sun Belt football is going into its seventh year. We have 2 bowl wins in that time...plus a couple of nationally noteworthy upsets. With WKU moving up this season, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them quickly into the realm of Troy...FAU has a strong commitment to athletics as evidenced by the coaches they've brought in and a great state to recruit in. MTSU made some huge strides last season. Add us and there are 5 up and coming programs...in all sports (except mens soccer and baseball ). A new SWC would be great...but probably a pipe dream...time to suck it up...admit our current place in the football landscape...build OUR PROGRAM and win despite our conference affiliation. Who cares at this point what type of national recognition we have when we have very little locally. Lets beat SMU, beat Navy and have strong showings against Sooner and Roothog and continue our strong recruiting efforts. Its tough for me to knock a conference that we finished second to last in last season.
  10. I don't believe he was ever moved to RB...MGS.com isn't the best about updating that roster
  11. and the conference with back to back national champions in basketball...and traditional success in baseball and women's basketball. It makes some geographic sense, average travel for big 12 schools is 428 miles, 677 for SEC. The SEC is the best conference in sports (then Pac 10, Big10 and ACC...in that order) and Arkansas would be soooo nutty to leave...not Houston Nutt-y...just nutty. Dan McDowell...sports humorist, Dallas.
  12. Wow...thank you for the update. I went to your board and it looks like UNT fans aren't the only one's tired of Dickey talk. Wells has gone overseas to try and find a gig...and Weaver was involved in a bb gun incident. With problems at ASU and UNO...looks like the SBC West is opening up nicely for UNT. Glad we're not in the East.
  13. While i am still 100% insistant that we are not rivals with SMU...man those snobs are so arrogant that I just can't resist joining in the fun. I signed up for Ponyfans...my name is "David Stanley 87-88" and I'm curious to see how many of their posters know their SMU football history with that name.
  14. Agreed...just felt you may've been jumping the gun a bit. How did Bonner McDermott of HP look in the Great American Shootout?
  15. second that...he got media guide cover snubbed.
  16. And don't forget about Northlake...or they'll give you a speeding ticket...bastards.
  17. whoa...this just went from a friendly post to a soap-box rant for some on here...I think I may just sit back and watch this one unfold...maybe instigate a bit. I heard Baylor call UNT's mom fat...
  18. You do realize that other basketball programs need players as well, right? 4 of these guys signed with big, out-of state programs (Utah, Minnesota, Stanford and UCONN)...and if they go there and average 4.3ppg we'll be talking about them again in 2 years when they decide to transfer. Monroe is our only recruiting rival...and they nabbed a 6'1" guard...a dime a dozen. We should be recuriting against Tech...but we look for different style players...especially up front. Losing a player to Sam Houston, UTA or Texas St. doesn't really concern me.
  19. Agreed...I especially find myself rooting for Baylor basketball since the Dave Bliss tragedy. Baylor is a class program and its difficult to fault a school for holding all of its students to a higher academic standard. I hope that these are just rumors.
  20. Ieans is a very nice athlete...good jumper...and I'm not sure where they're getting 230 from, I'd put him closer to 200-210 unless he's really bulked up recently. He was in the Joey Byerly QB fiasco/compition of a few years ago. He could be a surprise for us...I don't know what kinda hands he has, but an athletic 6'6" wideout is always nice, especially on fade routes from the 2 yard line.
  21. I joined GMG about 3 months ago when I moved up to Connecticut in an effort to stay as connected as possible to my Alma Mater. I wish desperatly that I had known more about this site when I was in school and in the DFW area. I feel that we have the potential to be at the forefront of leading UNT athletics to a position of repsectability it has never achieved. Nobody has more passion and interest in seeing this program succeed than the 25-50 regular posters on here...however our sentiment is shared by only a small percent of our school and community population. I stated in a thread earlier that I am interested in using what connections I still have into developing programs and ideas that help us achieve these ends...I could care less how futile or pointless some on here could feel my efforts are...if nothing else it will help me pass the hours on a slow day at work. The point of this thread is I want to gather everyone's opinion as to what they believe the state of UNT Athletics is today and where it should be 5, 10, 50 years down the line. What initiatives need to be taken by the administration, students and athletic department to help foster our program. Whatever ideas any of you have to improve attendance and awareness of UNT. Anything productive. I want to put together a GMG mission statement of sorts...compile a concensus of the varied opinions on this site and actually do something with the many wonderful ideas that get tossed out on this forum from time to time. Lets try and keep this as close as one post per member as possible. This isn't a debate thread. I'm not asking who should be starting at QB against OU, is it a good thing Michael Sturns left or how does Tina Slinker still have a job. Give me your State of the Union speech on UNT athletics as a whole. I'm sure something similar has been done on here...if not numerous times before. The difference this time around will be nobody fully understands how little of a life I have in a brand new state where I know about a totoal of 7 people...nor how much free time I have when work is slow. All ideas are appreciated.
  22. And this pisses me off even more. He knew damn well what he was getting into when he took the job in New Orleans. He knew the financial limitations an athletic program might be under in the face of REBUILDING AN ENTIRE CITY. He pulls a nice first class...is helping get this program on its feet...everyone knows that he's gone as soon as theres some success...but he leaves following the season with some fucking class. Now most, if not all of this very nice incoming class de-commits...leaving some 35 year old assistant from Tulane who has never been considered for a head coaching job before but is willing to take whatever UNO can afford to pay for the chance at his first head coaching gig with no recruiting class heading into July...3 and a half months before the season starts...one and half before practice should be starting. Williams just set this program back 3-5 years. I can only hope that those who committed to UNO stay at UNO...that an 18 year old kid shows more maturity, respect and commitment than some greedy, self-important coach. If not...this is a very bad situation for UNO and the entire Sun Belt.
  23. All of my ideas are excellent... I was a freshman orientation leader...and athletics is no where near the focus that it should be. The 3 days of orientation are absolutly packed with things the youngins need...but the only real info they get about UNT athletics comes in the form of a five to ten minute speech from RV...and as much as I love what he's done here...his speeches leave a lot to be desired in terms of really firing up the incoming with school spirit. A couple of us took it upon ourselves to make athletics a focus within our individual groups, but that only reaches 150-200 kids each for the whole summer. The OL staff is very receptive to changes / improvements to their program each year...and I still know most of the people in the office. It would be too late for this summer...but if we as a forum can come up with some ideas, programs, motivators ect that would improve athletic attendance (this is opening a whole new can of worms)...I'd be more than happy to write up a proposal...send it to one of you guys with Athletic Department connnections to get RV to back it and sign off on it...then I'll start trying to work some of my connections within OL. We all have good ideas for improving the athletic atmosphere on our campus...lets do more than type about it...its going to take more than the 50 of us on here all the time to improve what we bitch about constantly...time to go to work.
  24. That is some sorry-ness. I think if the UNO program were in some type of trouble...Bo would've stayed in the draft and rather play for Idaho of the NBDL. An assistant job with Tom Crean is a step up from trying to rebuild a program in the Sun Belt...especially with as competitive as the Belt should be this year (atlarge bid?). I think he saw a roster of Bo and some guys and felt he had a better chance to pad his resume' with Marquette...3 years down the road he'll be looking for another head coaching gig and no one will remember him abandoning UNO. Sorry. I like Tom Crean too...this pisses me off.
