  1. I thought I remember that the New Orleans bowl was the first and only time we've played Cincinati and Colorado St.
  2. Agreed...but I have a hard time believing that the Big 10 is considering expanding simply for the sake of expanding, or reaching a balance schedule with 12 schools. The only adventagous move for the Big 10 would be Notre Dame...100% NBC money; 100% BCS Bowl Game money vs. 1/12 Big 10 network money; 1/12 of six or seven bowl games, one or two BCS games...hmmmm...I think I'll stick with option one and just go ahead with the ND master plan, also known as the Midas Plan of making all the buildings on campus lined with solid gold.
  3. Throwing mechanics mean very little in the college game. Danny Weurful (sp?) shot-putted the ball on his way to winning a Heisman in a system that threw the ball a whole lot more than we will. Now...I am not privy to all the insider practice information like Dodge2007...but from what I saw last season and in the spring game, Danny Meager doesn't throw the ball that much better than Woody...and he certainly doesn't add the intangibles that WW brings with his athleticism. Last years QB problems were the result of never naming a QB and whoever was on the field was constantly looking over his shoulder...a coach needs to allow his QB to make a mistake or two and learn from them...DD stunted the growth of both DM and WW. IMHO, there are 2 things that keep WW from playing Qb this season...his game management, too many delay of games...even in the spring game I believe he had 2...the other is an 18 year old from San Antonio with mafia connections.
  4. I disagree. Eagle Point and Liberty Christian lands were acquired almost exclusivly for athletics...and no matter how bad, football is almost always going to be the most profitable sport. I think construction of the new athletic center cements the schools commitment. Winning may influence only the way the school prioritizes the way in which they go after the Master Plan. A football stadium will come...winning now may mean its not the last piece of the Master Plan to be completed. Our reverse Field of Dreams situation is frusterating and may just require some patience
  5. It was...the student referendum vote is essentially for the Board of Regents to guage the opinion of the student body...its not a binding agreement. I think more students would be on board with tuition increases if the Master Plan was better publicized...and they had a visual representation as to where their additional fees were going.
  6. Barring an almost complete revamping of almost every conference (possibly excluding the SEC and PAC-10) the only school the Big 10 would ever had would be Notre Dame, and ND would be insane to start sharing BCS bowl revenue with the conference.
  7. Wow...it would appear the car dealership simply stole the idea from the Oklahoma government: Ghost Employees - Oklahoma State Department of Health First made news in May 2000 from a federal investigation into corruption at the department A Multi-County Grand Jury investigating the scandal issued 302 subpoenas for witnesses a nd evidence, heard from 150 witnesses, examined 1242 exhibits and issued 12 indictments involving 15 individuals and 159 separate criminal counts. The Grand Jury also found cases of shames, involving jobs were no real worked expected or required. These were mostly where current and former members of the Oklahoma Legislature had used their influence to secure employment at the health department for family members, friends and associates, often without regard to the qualifications of those hired. but I gotta admit they're a clever bunch. Bob Stoops... ...sleeps with a life size pillow in the shape of Josh Heupel which he spoons with everynight in bed. ...gets prank calls from the 208 area code everynight ...bought a car from his QB ...gave said car to a new QB recruit ...upset at first QB for screwing up his loan application and giving him a lower credit score ...upset at second QB for not being as good as the first QB ...blames Oregon's uniform more than the refs ...appealing the NCAA for an 18th year of eligibility for Jason White ...hired Brian Bozely as new conditioning coach ...hired Eric Dickerson and Craig James as recruitment specialists ...thinks Arizona sucks ...cries at night knowing he will never be out of the shadow of Barry Switzer so childish
  8. Great news...we can now add a baseball or men's soccer team and it should only knock us down to a "C" and as my degree will attest...a "C" is still passing.
  9. This would be the prank to end all pranks...I will gladly help post bail for whoever gets this done...and I'm sure the entire state of Idaho will take care of your legal charges
  10. It got mentioned on her I believe yesterday when the I-35 expansion plan was posted that perhaps RV and the university are playing a wait and see game with TX DOT. If I-35 is expanded through Denton, Fouts would have to go and TX DOT would have to pay for it if it was "still in use." This article doesn't seem to optimistic
  11. You got it...this should keep me occupied at work for a few minutes...its nice to come in and have something to do Very well put...I dont promote a pure Socialist system...we've seen them in the world and they don't work...put unchecked Capitalism will lead to the exact same result. Without regulations on compitition you will eventually end up with a winner...and that winner will single-handedly control the market and be able to dictate pricing and will have the financial ability to prevent others from joining their market. I'm not sure "saddistic" "counter-productive" and "hypocritical" are considered posittive endorcements...but I'll check with the dictionary in a moment. I am well aware I'm in the minority with my opinions and I'm perfectly comfortable with that. I think cities go through these types of cycles...Detroit was a slum for years but is really pulling itself together. Dallas has had some poor management, investing money in the wrong areas i.e. letting the Cowboys get away. People forget what Deep Ellum was 5-10 years ago. Nice restaurants, very successful clubs and a relativly safe atmosphere in which you would see families...atleast in the early evening. Trees, DaDa, Gypsy ect were THE live music venues in Dallas. Deep Ellum started going downhill when the city allowed 4am clubs like Uropa and it brought in a different crowd. There is a lot of history to the area. Well whose to say Fair Park would even be there? If 25-30 years ago Dallas had allowed the skyline to expand across Central imagine who much the free market coud've expanded. I think Big Tex would've been best suited inside a 70 story office building. Maybe keep one seat from the Farris Wheel in the lobby of a new bank tower...you know, for posterity purposes...remind people of what used to be there. I live close to NYC...and i promise you that there are plenty of business who would love to build their newest skyscraper right in the heart of Central Park...and I bet the free market would have little problem with that. Deep Ellum was a historically significant area that needed to be protected...and still does for that matter. If the free market were allowed to dictate land usage entirely we'd have nothing but factories, skylines and Planos...no parks, no museums, no unique and distinct areas. About as well put as I've seen. I think to say we're tolerent of others is to completely ignore history. People have been burned at the stake, drowned, hanged, tortured, exiled all for their religious beliefs. The church is responsible for some gross misdeeds in its 2000 years of existance. I'm not sure how we classify Northern Ireland's struggle as political or religious, but the tensions are certainly rooted in religion. I believe America is largly responsible for these acts becoming intolerable by recognizing the need to seperate religion from government and allowing free practice...thats a relativly modern line of thinking. I feel that the animosity you believe is being directed towards religious folk in this country is because you're mouthpieces can be very abraisive...Pat Robertson, Will Donahue ect don't exactly preach for tolerance and inclusion. Socialism...when Russia implimented Socialism they did so almost by the letter of Marx's philosophy...I guess ignoring the part where he didn't believe it would ever be functional...and because of that Socialism is associated with all of Marx's ideas (religion is the opiate of the masses)...the Socialism in America to which I've been refering are the economic influences that prevent the market from completely dictating our choices. I believe the red part of Cool Beans will be staying but the extension into the concrete building (dart room) they will be losing but I'm not certain.
  12. Are you referring to the large field across the street from the Rec Center and next to the tennis court? According to the Master Plan which I have been reading all day that should stay a soccer field...so the baracade may just be to prevent play and allow the grass to regrow
  13. Thats who I'm hoping will be under(behind?) center in Norman.
  14. Boy...you very deftly took that out of context. Are you employed by Fox News...if not send them a link to this site and you're bound to get a job as a writer and researcher for Bill O'Reilly.
  15. ohhh...and yes Fouts needs to go...I've actually got the Master Plan open on my computer as I type this and I can't wait to come back and walk down Gateway Park, cross the pedestian bridge over 35 and go watch the AP #8 team in the country airing it out at home against USC at the new Greene-Kennedy Field.
  16. During the mid to late 1970's building space in the Deep Ellum area bottomed out at around $2-$5 per square foot and many artists and small businesses moved in and revitalized an historically significant area...land speculation quickly followed as the Deep Ellum area is right next to downtown and was prime real estate to expand the downtown skyline. Admist discussion and protest, the city stepped in and formulated a plan known as The Near-Eastside Plan in the early 1980's that controlled land usage and established construction and height regulations...essentially saving the Deep Ellum area from becoming an expansion of the downtown skyline, as the market would've determined if city management wouldn't have recognized the importance of the area. Now, say what you want for what Deep Ellum has become today...but the area was a popular and economically viable area for nearly 20 years following this project. Hate to break it to you Lifer...but socialism has its place in America...pure capitalism will leave you the exact same result as pure socialism...neither work without the other and this country is still very much weighted toward the capitalism.
  17. Hehe...well played sir...well played indeed. I'm still not sure what everyone saw in the spring game aside from the fact that our corners may need some safety help on the two deep touchdowns to Casey Fitzgerald.
  18. Creativity and artistic expression are ridiculous? I guess everything should've just been beige. As for perception...and as the voice of the metroplex...whats the perception of 4th and 6th streets in Austin? Fry St. fair was an appeal around 2001 and ruined by both the Delta Lodge and the city but was well known. Maybe they could become Dallas cops and learn to plant fake drugs on people and cost the city 6 million in lawsuits...would that make them less useless? The only people I ever had issue with were the 16-18 year old high school kids on the streets...and that responsibility falls at the feet of the parents. The street performers and the smoky treats guy never bothered anybody and is something that you will find in any major city or large town across the country...and are often embraced. What is it that you saw that led you to believe these business were struggling? The expanded porches at TJ's...the renovated dart room and rooftop projection screen at Cool Beans, or the new porch and 15 plasma TVs at Lou's? Or maybe it was the over-flowing crowds 5-7 nights a week at all of these places? And are you seriously making complaints about a parking lot? When I go to the Mavs games I park in places much worse than that...I guess that means that Victory Park is in its decline...better add a pharmacy...and just because you personally may feel more comfortable with the Tavern and Side Bar crowd doesn't make it the nicest part of the Fry St. area. Lou's and Riprocks have the most to offer in terms of bar entertainment, beverage selection and seating (inside and out).
  19. I'm not sure which south Dallas hood you've been through but Fry Street was no where near as run down as people are making it out to be. Its a cleaner, safer and more economically successful Deep Ellum and Berry St... In the past 5 years, Chopsticks, Cool Beans, TJ's and Lucky Lous have all made major renovations and I promise you that none of these businesses were struggling and could've easilly handled the possibility of a rent increase...evidence of this is the fact that Chopsticks, Tomato and TJ's are all re-opening in other areas of towns...in the Tomato's case in a higher rent area. I am suggesting that the City should've stepped in with subsidies and stipulations for how the land was use once it was purchased...its the same thing Dallas did in the early 80s with Deep Ellum...and the purpose wasn't exclusivly for students to drink and hang out...regionally Denton is recognized for 2 or 3 things: UNT, the square and Fry St...and for the particular croud and aesthetic associated with these things.
  20. It may end up being a beautiful shopping center...but it doesn't belong there...it belongs in Rayzor Ranch...it belongs on south 288. The businesses that were forced out were not unsuccessful businesses and the city should've stepped in and dictate that the usable buildings and practical businesses stay. I am all for the growth of Denton...but corporate interests needed to be kept to the south and north of the historical areas of Fry St. and the downtown square. I said before...for every Uptown Dallas there is a Deep Ellum...for every Sundance Square there is a West 7th or Berry Street...every city needs shopping centers like this but there were sooo many better places for it...and that makes it pathetic city management
  21. Heres a copy of the proposed plan...the most sensible building to knock down would've been the small grocery store sized building behind where Chopsticks used to be...yet these developers appear to be leaving it as is. Corkscrew and the other small business on the corner of Fry and Oak seem to be making way for a restaurant...maybe it will be a Chotchkies and the servers will have lots of flare...because you know you can get a burger anywhere, but people come to Chotchkies for the people and the atmosphere. Pathetic design, pathetic city management. http://www.dentonrc.com/s/dws/img/drc/01-0...24frystreet.pdf
  22. ...on my NCAA 08 game...24-21. Foreshadowing?
  23. I was reading the Troy board a while back and he was on their radar...I believe he had a teammate at JC who signed with Troy as well. Good for them and good for the Sun Belt...UNT has been landing some nice talent, Troy's obviously pulling some nice talent...now its time for the rest of the Belt to catch up.
  24. Agreed...J-Mo has just barely over 1000 yards combined over his past two seasons. This is actually the most accurate all-conference tema I've seen and certainly the most UNT favorable. I've been under the belief that Chapman, Holman and Weathers have been getting snubbed by the other football publications and its nice to see all 3 on this first team voted on by those who actually know SBC football
